2 WORDS: LIFE CHANGING Lorena, I was hollaring watching this! You have changed the game. I could NOT stop yelling at the screen. You took me to church with video. Thanks for sharing this technique. All of that binding nonsense stressed me out so bad as a beginner quilter. Thanks for your common sense and clear teaching. Thank you!
I'm just learning how to make a quilt and finished the squares but didn't know how to finish it. I searched all day to find a tutorial like this without the binding. Thank you for this step-by-step tutorial. With a glue stick. you're the best!
This is incredible. First time that I’ve felt like I finally have all the learning I need to complete a block or a quilt. Thank you so much, Lorena. Great light, perfect demo angles and enough repetition to make this feel doable 👏🏾👏🏾
Lorena what a useful technique. I am making fidget blankets for patients with dementia. This will save me so much time and mean that I can make more. Thank you for such an excellent and clear tutorial. Hope you'll do many more.
Lorena - this is brilliant! I just tried this technique on a quilted placemat, and it was so much easier than sewing a binding. It came out just as you described. Perfect mitered corners. Thank you again for sharing your technique with us. Looking forward to seeing more from you.
Very clean "binding". So glad you figured this out. The perfect mitered corners are a plus to the finished product. The glue is the greatest idea for keeping the binding in place. Thanks for sharing.
Lorena's quilting, I used your method of binding just now for my daughters blanket and I am amazed at how well it did, I truly want to thank you for showing us your way of doing it because I will never be using another method for the rest of my life. Thank you again! Mother of 2 from Georgia
You ma'am, are brilliant. I am a beginner in sewing and watched several tutorials on how to make a border around my a quilt I'm about to do and yours is by far the best technique. Great job!! Thank you for sharing!!
It’s 5 years later (during the Coronavirus pandemic), and I’m so happy to have discovered this! I love it! It’s brilliant!!! 🤩 I will try it out soon! Thank you for sharing it! 👍
Lorena! Thank you so much for sharing this technique. Although I have always done self-binding quilts, I still struggle and have just rolled it over as I go just like Granny did. I dread doing the edges for this reason and have been trying to find an easier way. This will be a HUGE time saver for me and it looks so beautiful. Glue...that's ingenious! It looks so beautiful and much cleaner than my edges have been. Can't wait to try!!
I LOVE making blankets/quilts and have made quite a few. I STILL can't get the binding quite right. After seeing this, I think I can easily finish them off. This is GENIUS! Thank you a million times over for this. Now I can breeze through them.
My mother used to do it this way every now and then, I've done it my self a time or two. But haven't tried it on large quilts. Baby quilts or lap quilts. This would also be good if your making a quilted wall hanging also.
Ohh my gosh. The least stressful video i have ever watched. Your calming voice with the simple procedure to replace long sewing binding is such a God send to me. Im 74. I try to learn things. But binding was going to bring me down. Now i can make my little wall hangings so easily. THANK YOU
I’m new to quilting and have been watching many videos. As an intermediate sewer your method makes sense to me. Thanks for taking the time to explain your method.
Thank you soooo much for your great tutorial. Using your directions, I finished a quilt that I started before You Tube existed because I just couldn't figure out how to mitre those corners with my backing fabric.
I've sewn forever. But never quilted. This year I'm making each of my three grand daughters a lap quilt for Christmas. Thank you for your wonderful demonstration. I'm going to make the deadline, thanks to you!!!!! Please keep posting your wonderful videos...
This looks like a great technique! I will definitely try it. Sometimes I watch videos that make quilting like rocket science, so hard and intimidating. But unless you are making a quilt for a show or contest, it does not have to be that way. This is a really nice tutorial, you explain everything so well. This will really simplify things.
this is awesome! I'm so bummed I JUST trimmed and squared up a quilt I'm working on! haha now I wish I hadn't! But my next quilt I will try this method! Thank you.
Oh ny gosh, I have been looking for something like this. The miter coner!!!! Priceless! I am doing a simole summer sewing series on my RUclips page and wanted to find the simplest way to teach binding and this video came up. Thanks for taking your time and explaining!
This video was great. You have broken down the steps into coherent, easy to replicate steps. Thank you so much. I am on my way to finish my first large bed quilt using your techniques.
Lorena, thank you so much for your very informative j"Quilt Binding Without Binding", I have learnt a lot and will give it a go with some new place mats that I need.
I found 2 almost finished lap quilts at a Mennonite thrift shop. Done by hand, but as I am a beginning quilter, was unsure how to turn the back to the front. THANK YOU SO MUCH. Something easy, practical, doable.
I was about to ask about the glue and then saw the response in comments. I'm brand new to quilting, just trying to make a small wall hanging. Thank you Lorena for this tutorial....the binding was the part I was puzzling over....I'm a bit lazy, felt a bit intimidated as well, and figured there had to be an easier way to do it. There it is!!!! Thanks you again!!!
thank you so much, almost done with my first quilt ever and going to use this technique. I let you know how it turns out. don't know why I decided to do a king size quilt from the get go. call me crazy LOL
Good job...I thought of doing this today and then found your video...I'm a beginner quilter...I don't know why there usually is a "binding" ...this works! Love your glue trick!
+Aspasia Baker I really hope you try it out. I also have a tutorial on how to do this technique on a large quilt. Lorenaruclips.net/video/0kE12baePYc/видео.html
+Lorena's Quilting Perfect! I just made the top strips of blocks and I need to sew them together and then I'll buy enough backing to use your method. Good job. Thank you.
Julia Hynes I haven't tried it on flannel backing. I do think it should work the same. I recommend that you give your self a little bit more room like 1 1/4 when your cutting the outside back fabric. I think flannel is a little bit thicker to fold over and maybe an extra 1/4 or 1/8 would give you more space to fold you fabric over. I will try to find some flannel and try it on a little swatch and let you know but I do think that thicker fabrics will just need a little bit more fabric on the back to fold over nicely than the 1 inch on regular cotton fabric.
I leave a 2 inch border with flannel. It makes a one inch binding which is better. I have also left a 3 inch border with flannel for the best binding for the thickness of flannel front and back. That makes a 1.5 inch binding. I liked the tutorial very much.
Have you ever tried this with a flannel backing? I'm wondering if it would come out as clean. Looks awesome! Can't believe I spent all those hours binding with strips!!
Thank you so much for showing me how to finish my grand baby's first quilt. It's turning out to be perfect and look professionally done. God Bless You.
Thanks for this tutorial. I finished a baby quilt in record time. You did a great job explaining technique and this novice could follow the instructions with ease. Cheers!
I get so annoyed when I see thumbs down on good videos. Like it doesn't even just seem like its just opposing opinions, it seems more like people just wanna be rude. Ive disliked videos already, so im not saying people shouldn't be honest on whether they like a video or not but when it's a video you have no reason to "dislike"... Drives me crazy! You did a great job & I love this idea! Thanks for taking the time to share this with us all!
Lorena, I have just finished one of the quilts intended as Christmas gifts this year, and am now relaxing for the evening. I wanted to thank you for posting your video, this method is so much easier than, making yards and yards of binding, then _fingers crossed_ joining up the two ends. Since I only have 2 days out of the week that I can do my quilting, this is a time saver as well. Thanks again, p.s. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and a happy new year.
Thank you so much for showing me this method... I need to make quick panels to top off a craft im working on. Im not quite a skilled sewer. I had really great results with this method. The glue stick, i never would have thought of that. Im going to use it all the time now. Folding corners has also been stumping me. This answered all of my questions. I've just made the cutest panel in no time. THANKS TO YOU :D
Thank you so much for this!!! A super fast, yet Very professional looking (end result) thanks to your NEW technique. I am new to quilting and I have made 4 quilt tops but have been so intimidated on doing the bindings for them --- that I kept putting it off. I'm trying this for sure. :-) Alpha
I watched this RUclips video I used her method on a lap sized quilt today and it only took me about 3 hours; whereas the other day I started one by hand and it took me 2 1/2 days! Her method is so easy and it really looks good, probably the best I've ever done and binding is not hard for me. I even told my 10 year old grand daughter that she could do this binding it's so simple.
To Becky Sills I use Elmer's Glue stick wash away. You can also use liquid glue it works also. It got messy for me to use it and I found that Elmer's glue wash away glue stick was easier for me. Lorena
Lorena's Quilting thank you for this clear concise teaching! I loved the look and precise finish! I will be trying this on my first grandchilds bewborn quilt. Again, thank you!
Nice technique...you make it look easy...but I prefer the look on the back of a quilt when the binding is a different fabric, so I will stick with the traditional method of sewing on a binding.
I was thinking of making a very small quilt for a dollhouse, but wondering how to do it without all the bulk, and this is perfect. Not just the idea of the backing fabric to bind (which is awesome!!) but when sewing tiny things, getting them to STAY without the bulk of pins, even when they are ironed in place, it is still a pain in the rear. Glue sticks!! Brilliant!! I can set seams on tiny blankets and pillows and curtains to stay exactly where I painstakingly put them!! Bless your heart, this will take so much stress from my life!!
Wow. I wat he’s your video this morning and followed it to finish a Christmas table topper. Your method worked like a charm and it’s fast. Thank you so much.
Just what I was looking for! Had done something similar on a smaller quilt and now will use this technique on a large quilt. Thanks for sharing and showing how to do this technique is such great detail. Helps a lot.
Thanks for the great tutorial. I was trying to tell my daughter how to finish her wall hanging when I found your tutorial and answers all her questions. Thanks for such clear explanations.
My QOV QUILTS are 72x90. So you won't have any problem using this method. These were my 1st ones to bind. I just layed it out on my 8ft folding table on risers & swung it around from one side to the other. It worked out SOOOOO WELL!!! I AM TOTALLY PLEASED WITH THE END RESULTS!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE WELL DONE VIDEO!!!
Thank you so much for this! I am a beginner and have only made rag quilts because I was intimidated by binding. I am making a baby quilt for my first grandchild and will use this method! Can't wait to finish it! Also, thanks for completing the entire square on camera for us beginners. Most videos show you how to do it, then finish the steps off camera.
I have always hated trying to put a binding on different projects. I just tried your method on a table runner and it came out perfect. Thank you so much for this video.
You are gifted in this area of video. Has anyone told you that? What's not to like? Your personality shines through - you are really good and it is a wonderful thing! And fun! And your voice is pleasant to listen to. You just have a good way about you that comes through on these videos. Glad I discovered you! And thanks for this particular video. I didn't know how to do this!
I am a novice quilter and never really sewed anything. I embroidered a pre-printed baby quilt which took me 8 months to complete. I wanted to give the quilt to my 1 year old great niece for Christmas and it was Christmas Eve and I didn't know how to finish it. I went on RUclips to find away how to do the backing and I found your video. I use this technique and I finished it in no time. The finished quilt came out beautiful! I actually used flannel as the backing. Thank you so much for sharing this. I'm working on my 2nd quilt and will used this technique to finish that one too.
thank you.. quilters like a more traditional way of binding but...I don't have the time for it.. traditional binding can take up to 10 hours... this way only takes and hour..
2024 and I'm STILL doing this with you step by step. Thank you! One quilt done for local children's hospital thanks to you! ❤
I'm sad I can only 'like' once!!! This is exactly what I needed, and beautifully presented. You rock!

Lorena's Quilting .
Exactly what I was looking for...Thank you!

Julia Hynes I haven't tried it on flannel backing. I do think it should work the same. I recommend that you give your self a little bit more room like 1 1/4 when your cutting the outside back fabric. works just as well with flannel backing...i did it about a month ago
This is the binding technique I learned as a child. I'm glad to see it being used again. The quilts are gorgeous.
Cathy Holtz thank you so much::: ☺️

AlphaRoughneck Binding is not my favorite. I hope this really works out for you!
I watched this RUclips video I used her method on a lap sized quilt today and it only took me about 3 hours; whereas the other day I started one by hand and it took me 2 1/2 days! Her method is so easy and it really looks good, probably the best I've ever done and binding is not hard for me. I even told my 10 year old grand daughter that she could do this binding it's so simple.
gay reeder I’m so glad you tried it!
Great demonstration....thank you for posting!
+Lori Raymond Thank you for watching. I hope that you try it out. Lorena

That was easy I like the fact no pins were needed pins and me are not friends lol
Lisa Binney Thank you for your comment! I appreciate it😊
Have a question about the glue. Does it discolor the fabric as time goes by and what about needle?
Love love love the finish. Thank you sooooo much for the video. This technique made life sooooo easy. No wasting of backing fabric as well.
Sarika M S I'm so glad it worked for you😊

Thanks for the great tutorial. I was trying to tell my daughter how to finish her wall hanging when I found your tutorial and answers all her questions. Thanks for such clear explanations.
Patty is that you?
+Pat Miller I'm so happy that you like the Tutorial. Lorena
Cassandra Young I’m so happy it worked for you.. 🤓
Lorena's Quilting 🤗🤗🤗🤗
Thank you so much for this! I am a beginner and have only made rag quilts because I was intimidated by binding. I am making a baby quilt for my first grandchild and will use this method! Can't wait to finish it! Also, thanks for completing the entire square on camera for us beginners. Most videos show you how to do it, then finish the steps off camera.
I hope it works for you. Thank you for your comment.
I have always hated trying to put a binding on different projects. I just tried your method on a table runner and it came out perfect. Thank you so much for this video.
Your so welcome.. I’m glad it worked out for you..
Old school ,I love it. This is how I was trained 60 years ago. Great job.
Yes..
I love this technique! Now I will quit procrastinating and finish my quilt throw. Your directions are so clear and easy to follow.
Thank you so much!
What a wonderful idea! This is a timesaver as much as saving material. Why didn't I think of that before? Thank you Lorena.
INES TAVELIN I'm so thankful you like it! And that it works for you!
I was just wondering why I don’t see anyone doing this and then your video pops up in my feed, I love it. Thanks ❤️
thank you.. quilters like a more traditional way of binding but...I don't have the time for it.. traditional binding can take up to 10 hours... this way only takes and hour..
Young Lady, you are a Genius! This is beautiful. Thank you for sharing.
Finally an easy finishing tutorial that I can actually follow and grasp. Thank you!
Thank you. May God'sBlessings keep pouring over you and thru you!!!
So pleased I came cross this, I've ruined so many quilted items when I've tried to do the binding. Can't wait to try this out!
+Elaine Judge I hope it really works out for you. I really appreciate you watching. Lorena
This is the video I found you on a couple of years ago. I am so glad I found you.
