Love this, I'm going to reverse the facing so it goes on the front. Like a mock border. Must go play with this now, thanks.
Great idea!
I like that variation too.
My thoughts too.😊
Have you tried it? That was my first thought too!
How does this work ?
A really interesting technique! Never come across this idea, and I love the idea of the ready made hanging system due to the corners. Many thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
This is really a neat concept, especially for anything you want to hang. Personally, I have never see this technique even though I have been sewing for over sixty years. This is a hack I will definitely use a lot. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you like it!
I love this!! I have struggled figuring out how to bind for so long, some techniques have you have one giant long binding strip that you fold backwards and forwards around the corners and it has confused me but this is so crisp and beautiful, I have to try it on a project I've had waiting for finish for 5 years. I am ready for the freedom of having a project finally complete! Thank you and God bless you! I look forward to learning all I can from you! :)
So good to hear this will help you finish a long outstanding project! Thank you for watching!
You know that you can use Elmer's water soluble washable glue to baste things which is much less expensive than the spray-base. I do it all the time. It washes right out and fluffs right up. At first washing. My needle has no problem going through dried glue and as a bonus it acts like fabrics stabilizer when quilting.
Yes! I have seen that done. Definitely a more economical and less toxic adhesive.
I've been waiting for someone to show something different that's easy. I hate the old binding methods, too much trouble. Thank you so much for this idea, I'm trying it right away on a baby blanket.
Great!
Anyone here for the "facing" technique: it starts at about 6:30.
I am going to try this in reverse, on a baby quilt. I will make the binding strips a little narrower, the corner triangles a little smaller AND THEN I will apply the facing to the back and fold it over to the front. Then I can do edge stitching and/or top stitching all the way around to secure the binding. Thanks for the idea and clear instructions.
That should work!
I'd just wondered about the same! I'm a beginner so pleased to see someone who has more experience than me giving it a go.
I can't wait to try this, but I think when I try it, I'll use on of the triangles to embroider or write my name, date and year created.
Great idea!
I did this facing once on a large quilt-as-you-go baby play mat I made. The quilt was so thick that ordinary binding would be very difficult to sew on but this facing idea was ideal. It worked great. I sewed mine down with the machine so everything was reversable and nothing could catch and tear because it was made to throw on the floor for baby to roll around and play on. Love your cat, looks lovely.
That's a great idea!
I have been using facing for my table runners 1) I can quilt them out flat (unlike with pillowcasing) 2) I can match the facing to the border so the front and back match, and 3) no bulky binding corners . The gap in the facing corners eliminates the bulk. Love this! Plus you can feel the edge of the facing as you topstitch on the front so you never stray into the backing fabric.
Great tips!
new subscriber here - wow, what a great technique - haven't seen this before - will definitely be trying this out on my next project. Thank you!
Welcome! Thanks for the sub!
Love how simple and neat the facing edges came out! Definitely saved this one! Thanks!
I'm going to try your suggestion to use grey thread!
Awesome! Thank you!
Simple vertical sewing looks really nice👍.
Yes! Thank you! And anyone can sew straight lines and it always looks great 👍🏻
Genius! I know you said you didn't come up with the idea, but you shared it with us. Thank you. Great tutorial. I like that term, "amazing facing". 😊
I love this method. I want to do this with a fleece blanket to embellish it with the corners a print and the facing a solid and on the front instead of the back. Thank you.
Great idea!
Have never seen that technique done, but I think it's brilliant, especially for a wall hanging. Thanks for sharing another great hack!
You are so welcome!
You just showed everyone how to finish clothing! I don't quilt! But did take a free motion class to learn how to do decorative sewing. I dont always straight hem unless a stabie woven but especially knits. I make facings like this but still call it binding! I started never folding at seam! I fold over seam! I sometimes do a single fabric not folded if making a large cuff. This is also how to do easy shawl collar on a jacket! I cut many tops including sweatshirts especially okd ones or from thrift straight up front. Slightly V neckline. Add sawlmcolkar and matching cuffs! I also hem unstable knits with a more stable tshirt material cut across non stretch direction! Besides fitting to you at sides that all you do to finish clothing remakes.
Right?! I’ve done many facings on clothing too, but sounds like you do some really cool stuff!
Enjoyed this it was very interesting. I’ve never seen the corners and stuff done like that. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you for the suggestion of using painters tape for straight line quilting! I needed that idea and this brain does not figure things out anymore, getting old, lol.which is so aggravating because that used to be one of my best parts. Also the technique of facing the darling cat wall hanging.
You’re welcome! Glad you liked my ideas ❤️
I liked this method and I will definitely use it..Thank you.
This is great. Thank you so much. I am going to try this.
Wonderful!
Thanks so much, I haven’t seen this method before! A new trick for an old quilter!
You are so welcome!
I actually think I'd want that border on the front for one I have. Can't wait to use this.
You can do that!
I am so glad I came across your channel. I struggle with neat mitered corners. This is a very awesome way to finish a quilt. Thanks so much ❤
Glad it was helpful! And welcome to the channel! 💕
I LOVE this technique!!!! I can't wait to try it on the baby quilt I'm making!!
Hope you enjoy it!
Am I the only one who would make it the other way around with contrasting fabric? So that the triangles shows on the front, thereby framing the piece? The straight pieces can be folded and ironed beforehand, and then just stitched down (machine or invisible hand stitch). Love that cat!
You are not alone! You could certainly do that.
Thankyou. I am going to do mine that way as well. None of those botched bindings on the front. YAY
Great idea! However I would prefer to have the corners show on the front of the project.
You could! There are no rules 😉
This is a very nice way to finish a wall hanging/ quilts. Thank you for sharing!!❤️
You are so welcome!
Fabulous thank you for sharing! We can do this!!! You made this look So simple, yey!
Yes you can!
LOVE THIS! So clever! I plan to try this! Thanks!
Can I use this technique for a lap quilt? I love this. I am making a scrap quilt and don't want to buy even more fabric for the binding, but I have enough of the frame and backing quilts to put together 2 inch strips for the facing. THoughts? You do a great job of explaining!
You certainly could. The only recommendation I have on that is to tack down the open corner area instead of leaving it open for hanging. I think it would look more finished for a lap quilt that way.
I really like this technique. Thanks for sharing
You are so welcome!
Very neat, clean finish. Thanks for the video 😊
Thanks for watching!
Your tutorial was easy to understand and I like the technique as a different option instead of binding. I truly enjoy binding my quilts the traditional way although it took many projects before I wasn't intimidated by the process. Practice makes it easier! This is the first of your videos I've seen... following you now.
Yes! Personally, I will bind my larger quilts the traditional way as well.
RUclips put your video on my feed and I'm glad it did. I've never seen this before, but it looks great for this project. Your tutorial was easy to follow, plus, no binding join needed! Thank you for sharing this option!
Glad it was helpful!
I have never seen this done before. It looks amazing ❤
I hope you try it!
Awesome!! I struggle with those mitered corners and love this idea!! Thanks
Glad it was helpful!
I like this technique and it’s a great tutorial too! How big should you cut the square to fold into a triangle? Thank you😊
A 5” square would be the largest I would use. It just needs to cover the side strips when you flip those corners over.
That’s a clever way to finish the project. I love the idea of hanging it with the corners
Wow, it’s beautiful. I’ve never ever seen this done in all the years I’ve quilted. Thank you. Would like to try this and like someone else said, I may reverse it too.
I hope you try it!
I'm most interested in trying the quilting with Grey Aurifil 2620. Can you tell me which weight is used? 40 or 50? Thanks!
The orange spool, pretty sure it’s 50
13:44 Oh, ok. I was wondering what you were up to!😂 That’s so neat!
Great tip, I will share at quilt camp this weekend.... Thank you.
I shall definitely share this technique with my quilting group, Freedom For Girls, Bridgeman Downs Baptist Church, Brisbane, Australia. Many thanks.
Awesome! Thank you!
I love this little wall hanging and I think the facing method was perfect for it! Thank you for sharing. 😊🍁🍃🦉
You are so welcome!
Absolutely genius! No need to fuss with mitered corners or have to join the ends! I love it.
Glad you like it!
Looks to simple to come out this beautiful, but I saw it happen! Thank you!
It’s Ah-mazing!
Definitely trying this method. I love quilting but don’t like binding. It’s my kryptonite 😂, but THIS I can do. Thanks for sharing❤.
Happy to help!
i've faced a piece of fabric art and did two passes with the machine. 1/4" and 3/4" in from the edge. made a nice subtle framed sort of look. facing is such a good technique when you don't want the finished edge to draw too much attention. your finished wall quilt is lovely.
That sounds nice…I’ll have to try that!
Same, hate binding but love this method 😊
I feel like this be so pretty sewn to the back of the quilt and flip to the from of quilt in a different fabric
You could!
This is amazing, I love it!!! tfs
Thank you so much!
What a great way to finish wall hangings for sure! I will be trying this!
Please do!
Sheri, I’ve watched this a couple of times and am sure now that I’m going to try it out on my grandson’s Steampunk wall hanging I’m making for his birthday in May. Then I will do it on my latest project, a throw that is about 58 x 58. The border of the throw is small squares and a regular binding would take up too much space. Thanks for the video, it is a great option!
Fabulous video and technique
Glad you liked it!
This something new! I really enjoyed you sharing this quilting technique! Thank you!
Wish I had seen this before I made a mess on another project. Thank you so much!
You are so welcome! Next time you’ll be ready!
This is brilliant, if you sew the binding on the back first an a different colour from front will make a lovely & different binding on the front. Makes binding a whole lot easier. Thank you ❤😊
Absolutely beautiful! This would look lovely on a placemat on the right side.🙂
Great idea!!
Very nice and your instructions are clear
Thank you. I have two wall hangings that I just finished quilting and are ready for binding. I will definitely try this technique!!!
Thanks for the idea. Love it
I like the clean look on the front. I made a patchwork blanket with chenille bedspreads from the 50/60s that i've been collecting and this will be a perfect finish to not detract from the pretty patterns and colours. Thank you for this technique. I now know what it's called.
Absolutely gonna have to try this .. Binding kicks my behind every time and keeps me from finishing a quilt... Love this! Thanks for sharing!
You are so welcome!
I love the cat pattern. Where can i get it? Thank you for great technique!
It’s a small section of a bigger pattern by the Fat Quarter Shop. Go to their site and search under the free patterns tab.
Thank you so much I really really enjoyed watching you create this new type of binding methods. I really really love ❤️ this idea, and like the comment below, it would also look great reversed and on the front. I’ve subscribed and given you a thumb’s up too. Please stay safe and well too
Glad you like this method! Thanks for subscribing and watching the videos ❤️
I like how your first showed it with no border showing at top or bottom,, like you mentioned I would do an invisible hand stitch.. the sewing machine stitch kind of disrupts the flow, the magic.
It is beautiful, thank you. 🌸
How big are the squares for your trisngles
Mine were 3 1/2”, but you can make them any size as long as it covers the ends of your strips completely.
Great tutorial 👌 😊
Thank you 🙂
Thanks so very much! Genius! I plan on using this technique, next project! Happy sewing. 🧵
Wonderful!
I can’t wait to try this! Thanks for sharing!❤
You are so welcome!
I love the simplicity. Great idea! I will have to try. Thank you for sharing!
You are so welcome!
You could use fusible tape too for this kind of project, super cute!
Great idea!!
Thank you for sharing. I am going to try this on a table topper I’m working on.
Sounds great!
Thank you for sharing this wonderful method❤
You are so welcome!
Best facing tutorial I’ve seen! Thanks!
Wow, thanks!
I can’t wait to show this to my sister-in-law who just started quilting, and actually sewing too.
Awesome option ,have some wall quilts in progress so will finish this way.TFS
Wonderful!
I love this! Very pretty, and uniquely finished. And I love the name you gave it...Amazing Facing. Quite clever!
Glad you like it! Thank you so much!
Great technique!!! I look forward to using in my projects.
Wonderful!
Wow! Thank you. I also love your little wall hanging. I love my cats also. ❤❤❤
Thank you! 😊
Wow this is a great idea that I have never seen. Thank you for sharing!!!
For a quilt I would like the corners on the front ;) This is great for a wall hanging, a small one
Wow, I love this technique! So glad this popped up today, getting ready for craft shows and wall hangings will be easier with this method, THANK YOU
Wonderful!
I will finish the Throw i’m doing…so happy I found you

It came out really nice ❤ I will keep this idea in mind.. Thanks for sharing.

Glad it was helpful!
Great idea!!! I love new ideas!
So glad! Thank you!
I can’t bind to save me but I can do this idea ❤ thank you
I'm so glad!
i am so glad I found this quilt facing method! Thank you! Yes, I would have either hand stitched it down in back, and yes, A slightly narrower facing would be nice. I am a very experienced sewist, but always learning new things. I like listening to and watching you and you are a pleasant person. I have subscribed!
Glad to have you! I hope this facing method will prove helpful in your projects.
Love this method! Yeah, I ask what fabric that is? It’s absolutely stunning. ☺️
Which part? I think the dark teal shades were from a Moda line called Carolina Lily, but I don’t remember what the cat fabric was.
Very interesting!!! I will give it a go.
Great Teacher! 3-1/2" squares and 2-1/2" wide binding. Easy technique and fantastic results. Thank you for sharing this idea.
You are so welcome!
Love this idea. I always struggle with mitered corners and think this would be great for baby quilts. Thanks.😊
Glad it was helpful!
I like the facing idea. I'm sending your video to my sister because she makes more modern type quilts, I think this would look good with her quilts.
Thanks for passing it on!
I love learning new techniques! Thank you for sharing!!
You are so welcome!
This is brilliant, I'm making table runners and this will be a lovely way to finish them off. Thank you ❤.
Wonderful!
What a great tip, thanks for sharing. I will be trying this
What a good idea! Love the cat pattern too..where can I find it?
