Fantastic example, One of my dream cars to own one day I had 2 of these as my first cars and had some great memories in my 1.4 vivant and 1.8 Meridian, Was a member on the old Pug306net forums Few small OEM+ Mods id do to this: - Git 6 front splitter is missing but is a must on a car of this standard if you can find one, - Phase 2 Dash has a much better Aluminium and black finish and looks much better than the standard silver. - 307 Wiper jets are a direct replacement and provide much better coverage in a fan spread, - Dual rear fog lights - you can just add another bulk to the opposite light for dual fogs in the winter - Fogs with flash - you can add a jumper wire with the Fog and high beam switch so they come on at the same time. Have this in my VW and its very handy - Some old phase 2 models only had a half rear arch liner on one side which meant that the body would rust near the rear seatbelt mount - Spare wheel carrier needs to be regular greased as the drop nut in the boot floor can seize - Boot trim - Should be standard on these but are sometimes missing, Good luck with the Ebay sale - Fantastic car. Wish I could afford it
8:24, spare wheel carrier rotting away nicely, this will leave indentations on the spare tyre sidewall, eventually scrapping the tyre. job for the weekend, wire brush + hammerite. it will either unbolt or unhook off, + it will give you more space to clean the rest up the pulling to one side can also be those worn bottom arm bushes, especially when braking hard keep it up young man
Cool cars. I used to have a 205 1.9 GTi back in the day and much later a brand new 89 Pug 405 GRi 1.9. Even the 405 had great handling for a larger 4 door car. Peugeot were on top of the chassis game back in those days. I also had Saab's and Renault's through that time all with their own character, but the Peugeot's were definitely the most "playful".
I had two 405sri's and a 306 dturbo , they were great all round cars, I then got a Clio Williams and really found 80's, 90's French cars were really amazing cars to own and enjoy!!
As a former owner of two Peugeot 306, after German and English cars (1!!!), I was really impressed by this French cars handling and extreme, fine suspension! I still drive French cars that many years after.
I’ve recently had to part with my GTI6 and I miss it. I prefer the more modern stuff for daily driving but the 306 was on another planet for the overall experience. Great sound and a feedback through the controls that beats a lot of modern cars. Ok, it had French car electrics sometimes but you could forgive it anything once you punched it down a few local B-roads. Everything felt like it was in harmony. I’ve owned a few decent cars before but this is the one I’ll miss the most.
I fondly remember my Pug 306 break, it was fast as hell (~120HP, for a family stationwagon!) and was the same color as yours - fitted the same wheels and a lowering kit. Man that car was a lot of fun, never had much trouble with it except for a broken clutch cable and a flooded/clogged ventilation thing (got wet feet).
Had one of these pretty much same spec 23 years ago, great little car once moving pick up was surprising fast, very economical and as mentioned great handling ran it for three years and put around 75K on it..
I still miss my 306, my favourite Peugeot it just felt so right when I picked it up from the Dealer now nearly 30 years ago, that autumn found myself driving around Wales with a Golf Gti owning friend. He was amazed at how much better the ride and body control compared with his then new Golf, so much so traded it in for a 306 the next summer.
I really love French cars…. … my first ever car was a 76 Renault R5 TS followed by a Citroen Visa with the 2CV engine - a AcaDyane, a Renault R4, a Renault Megane1 Phase2 convertible (loved this car even with its small 95hp 1.4l) and at the moment a Peugeot 207 1.4l 90hp…
When do we get to see your reflections on the results of all that work? Marginal or tremendous improvement? Worth the investment or could you have left some things alone and been just as happy? I’ve recently embarked upon a course of recreational maintenance on one of my cars and the improvements were notable. When things degrade slowly over time (as with suspension bushings for instance) it’s not easily discerned, but when all is made right again the improvements can be quite pronounced, to the point of being surprising….
nice to see there are still good gti 6s out there that haven't been round the world twice and abused. they can be a money pit once they are well worn and very expensive to get above 200 hp
I was loaned a GTI6 by a leasing co i.e nearly new. The clutch was a swine! Driving out of the city centre was a pain (literally) and I have a bad impression of them as a result. It put me off hot hatches for life as a car that you couldn’t relax driving - I like to drive quickly at times but want a car to be able to cruise also.
From your early comment about how it drives and steers, you imply it is better than Pepe. That is some compliment. It doesn't look as pretty as the 205. If anything; it looks a bit... staid. So its looks deceive. My 205 gti was a revelation back in the 80's and that from someone who moved to it from an Alfasud. If the 306 is better I'd be very tempted but I've got my heart set on a Caterham.
Glad to have driven a 306 - although a lesser XR trim but the chassis layout remains equally excellent - as my first car! I'm going to get one the next time an opportunity presents itself for sure be it S16 or GTI.
Recognise a lot of those issues from my old N-reg XSI that I took to 120k miles before swapping it for a Mazda3 Sport. Peugeot around that time had issues with heater matrices - the one on the 306 failed twice, the first time at just over three years, and the one on my previous 205GTI failed too but was lot easier to deal with.
I had a 306 1.8 Meridian in that blue in 2003. It did handle and ride well, but also had a stiff clutch. A new cable helped for a bit, then it was stiff again, so must have been the clutch I guess. One of the only breakdowns I've had, the coil pack connector fell off and it cut out.
Surprised Matt did not correct him and say his business was in Northamptonshire and not Oxfordshire as that is where Brackley is. Matt Is a great guy and I get my 205 looked after at Pug1off.
Great that’s she is in good condition. Well done. A great vid and having rust treated my CL500. I can recommend Lanagarud very easy and Great protection 👍👍. Thanks for the great vid Jack.
Amazing how much patient matt has at pug1off! My 106gti has gear shaking issue number4 bad? Replaced the bloody wheel bearings new rear beam from IM, new lowered arms, new top engine mount (pin was snaped) lowered engine mount replaced, could it be the last mount under the battery tray gear box mount causing my gear wobble don't wont to give up, but my take it to pug 1 off...
S16 had essentially the same engine as the gti6. Just slightly lower compression and a shite intake manifold. It used the engine from phase to mi16. If you want the best handling chassis you buy the 405. Far more stable and lighter
Who needs a 6 speed gearbox? Does it come with a strong left leg! Hmmmm! Going down the ladder! Citroen CV2? Thank you for great video and pros in work!
I’m always surprised by the mechanics who sees something which looks like the titanic at the bottom of the ocean and say it’s all fine. I guess I should never get a car lift as I’d not sleep at night 😂. I love these old cars❤
I had a few renault 19 16v's and the s16 thing happened there?. I do love a rear torsion bar bit of lift off oversteer though. The gti-6 is probably the last bit of that type of getting around a bend and tbh I think the old French stuff was so good on a uk road. 205 gti, renault 5 turbo, clio 16v, renault 19 16v. All similar underneath with parts used. But I will say this I had an e30 325i at the same time as my brother had a 306gti-6 and it was close. I love the frenchies from this era 😍
If things go as planned, for me, as I am delighted they did with this 306, I want to be first in the queue to buy, if you decide to sell. 1995-97 I would hire 306s for any long trip. Because my Alfasud (of the era) might not make it 😀spiritual successor to the Sud 😀
I wish they still made hot hatchbacks like the French did in the late 80s and through the 90s the 306 is probably the last of that era but if you know anyone with a cheap 309 gti I'll be interested 😆
@Number 27 Do you know the brand. I had a terrible pattern exhaust on that didn't fit right. Moved to a two box stainless piper which is too loud for my tastes. Looking for decent OEM so interested if you know.
Jack, people say Fiat is the worst cars in the world, until they try French cars. 306 is just crap any which way you take it... don't get carried away..😅
I've owned my 97 306 dturbo for the past 20 years. Its now over 26 years old and still driven 200 miles per week. Its done 231,000 miles, original Engine, gearbox, clutch and turbo, and only needed its first welding this year. You are talking shit, go back and read your big boys forums.

Few small OEM+ Mods id do to this:
- Git 6 front splitter is missing but is a must on a car of this standard if you can find one,
- Phase 2 Dash has a much better Aluminium and black finish and looks much better than the standard silver.
- 307 Wiper jets are a direct replacement and provide much better coverage in a fan spread,

I had an 306 S16 when they first came out. Possibly the best fun car to drive that I've ever owned. Don't think there are any left!
8:24, spare wheel carrier rotting away nicely, this will leave indentations on the spare tyre sidewall, eventually scrapping the tyre. job for the weekend, wire brush + hammerite.

Great video, he came across as an honest and very knowledgeable chap Jack.
Always a good idea to go to a garage that really knows the ins and outs of your type of car.
Always a pleasure to listen to a pro doing his thing.
I loved my 306 d turbo.
Had twin exhaust, fuel pump turned up and wastegate adjusted for increased boost.
Absolute belter of a car.

IMHO one of the best looking Peugeots ever made. tried a couple of times to buy a 306 GTD Turbo Diesel back in 2013 but alas it wasn't to be.
It is also a good idea to drop the spare wheel down, and check the rear of the rear subframe bushes.
Such a pretty little car. I think the design still looks good today.
I learned to drive in a d turbo so they have a special place for me.

Awesome car. Disappointed about the exhaust. Hopefully the issues are now sorted. Nice video. Keep up the good work.
I really enjoyed that Jack, keep up the great work 👍

Vacpump to inlet pipe was disconnected when you opened the bonnet
Always wanted to own a 306 GTI6, had a few D-Turbo's in the past and found them to be great.
I always wanted one of this. Such a good looking car and performance is plenty enough

The only 306 o ever considered buying. 6 speed, 167bhp from that 2 litre and fantastic handling from that chassis.
Currently daily is a 306 GTI6. It needs a couple of things and a paintjob for my taste, but what a car to drive...

It’s already out.. released a month ago!
@@Number27 Apologies, I see all your vids, but didn't take that into account.
Looking forward to this, you always do fantastic videos mate 😊

Hmm my much loved XSi has the dredded ticking noise... Will have to give Pug1Off
This is your greatest hour

Best looking euro hatch of all time? Just might be.
Excellent programme, really enjoyed it.👍👍
Happy Easter
Still looks great, still want one.
Absolutely love my 306s. You should try and find a Supercharged Gti- 6 to drive. I'm sure Pug one off could find a suitable candidate 😊 👍👍
I had the Dturbo in blaze yellow (the price was right) after it was gone I was surprised how much I missed it.
I’m always surprised by the mechanics who sees something which looks like the titanic at the bottom of the ocean and say it’s all fine. I guess I should never get a car lift as I’d not sleep at night 😂. I love these old cars❤
Love these. Last decent proper Pug.
Can you do road test on Abarth Punto Evo?
Keep up good work👌🏻
i'll buy it!
Was the front left brake caliber issue sorted eventually? Stucked slider pin or piston?
Will be in next vid.. ended up replacing the calipers
French Fluency love it
I had a few renault 19 16v's and the s16 thing happened there?.
I do love a rear torsion bar bit of lift off oversteer though.

205 gti, renault 5 turbo, clio 16v, renault 19 16v.
All similar underneath with parts used.
But I will say this I had an e30 325i at the same time as my brother had a 306gti-6 and it was close.
I love the frenchies from this era 😍
You get so many Cool cars that we do not get in America. And I really seem to like some the odd ball ones.
What a cool little peugeot!
Genuine question, how does an offside wheel bearing go from being fine as mentioned in this video to failing an MOT 5 months later?
If things go as planned, for me, as I am delighted they did with this 306, I want to be first in the queue to buy, if you decide to sell. 1995-97 I would hire 306s for any long trip. Because my Alfasud (of the era) might not make it 😀spiritual successor to the Sud 😀
Thinking of selling the pug on Jack??
I’m really surprised you didn’t feel all that play in the front suspension!?
They must have handled horribly
Brackley isn't in Oxfordshire: it's Northamptonshire 🤦🏼♂️
Moody pants
These models aren't plentiful in my part of the world, underappreciated even. However I'm always keen to learn about these attractive looking beasts.
How did it ride after the work? Hopefully French cars will return to the US market, and sooner than later.
My boss had a new one of these when I was 18. He let me drive it one Friday to get the fish and chips order. Let's just say there food was lukewarm 😊
I wish they still made hot hatchbacks like the French did in the late 80s and through the 90s the 306 is probably the last of that era but if you know anyone with a cheap 309 gti I'll be interested 😆
Did they sort the binding rear brake?
Thanks did you have to pay for bill?
I wish we could get Peugeot in USA!!
Is that a 905 shell hanging from their ceiling ?
why are most people talk about 6 gearbox like it is a wonder a 5 gearbox is muchhhhh nicer to drive especialy in town and around..thank you.
Ever looked at a Renault Clio RS 200?
Nice vehicle 👍
What about the binding brake?
In next vid.. ended up replacing the calipers
that looks good
Anyone know if the 306 16 Valve engine has any ancestry to the BX 16 Valve engine/Mi16 405?
Yes its the same engine
How does it drive now?
How come hunks always have the best jobs
Hmm what exhaust did you go for in the end, MTS ? (A fellow Gti6 owner!)
Just a standard repro..
@Number 27 Do you know the brand. I had a terrible pattern exhaust on that didn't fit right. Moved to a two box stainless piper which is too loud for my tastes. Looking for decent OEM so interested if you know.
What was the bill? feels like a fair amount of labour 600?
Included the Alcantara which was close to £200
If anyone needs one of the beautiful XSI wheel trims, I have a brand new one in my shed that I may part with.
905C body shell hanging from the ceiling!!
What is the body shell of that race car hanging???
what???????
Looks like a Peugeot 905

One of the most beautiful group c racers with a fantastic livery. Very high top speed (400kp/h)
A 905 shell?😮
I think you should sell this to me
Jack.
Tu roule une limousine. A French hothatch what is not to like?
Can you please put an exhaust on it.....It sounds really awful
