- This is an HD Sample video that was captured by my Canon Vixia HF S100 / S10 / S11. I used the MXP mode, or 24MBPS AVCHD for all clips in this sample video. I also captured in progressive at 30 frames per second. I got all my clips in a park where I captured waterfalls, trees, rivers, and more. This video features amazing quality and an awesome sunset towards the end, don't miss it! The quality is outstanding! Please rate and comment! Also Subscribe!
Check out the Low Light Quality Sample in the link here: • City Night Life - Cano...
cold, at the beginning 'brrr'. The entire video based about nature is the reason why I love it! absolute gorgeous sunset ending..
Looks amazing. Thinking about getting rid of my XL2 and replacing it with this camera.
It can do 60i, 30p, and 24p, and it is very smooth when using 60i, even 24p looks good when panning, almost no blur. It is very easy to focus, and most of the focusing is taken care by the instant auto focus. However you can also use the fine adjustment knob for hard situations.
Yes, I am very pleased with the camcorder, especially how well it performs in low light conditions and on overcast days. The quality is outstanding and it was worth avery penny.
@AngrySlop no problem... I have Pinnacle Ultimate 12.... it recognizes the files just fine..... anyway, I'm glad that you were able to use Vegas..... We are in the process of shooting a short action film now with the Vixia HF S100.... Using a Azden SMX10 mic and some guerilla style filmmaking tactics.... Check out some of our behind the scenes footage from the Action Film Challenge that we are a part of!!!
very useful
Well I have a mac, but I have heard of a program that is compatible with this type of camcorder and it works great. It is called Sony Vegas Pro 9 or just regular Sony Vegas 9, I believe these are the newest versions, check them out.
@AngrySlop The files that you are finding are MTS files.... That is due to the AVCHD format used in these cameras. If you are using PINNACLE or SONY VEGAS, they recognize this format... you should be able to edit from there.... Hope this helps!
@HiiDefinition first 2 scenes we're really nice, after that not much technique was used
Well the only thing I can think of is checking the preferences of iMovie and making sure that the format is PAL at 25 fps. Also try using the 25p mode instead of the 50i for the HF S11. Hope this helps!
Without limiting quality, each minute is like 100MB - 150MB, which is not that much since you can only post videos up to 10 mins long and a limit of 2GB.
Thanks
This is one of the videos that made me want the Vixia HF S100..... So I got one!!!! I am in the process of shooting an action short for the 30 Day Action Film Challenge.... You can see some of our behind the scenes footage on the home page!!!!!
This is in full HD, it was just an overcast day, and from that angle, the trees didn't seem as far as they really were. So usually when something is far in the distance, the colors begin to blend, which creates loss of quality. Plus, this is youtube, what I see on my HDTV screen is a lot different from what you see on youtube.
@hidef
Yes definitely when you make in 25p you have good image. In 50i, Imovie converts to progressive and it is not good. Thats What I think, but I am not 100% sure.
@HiiDefinition lol not but i love techniques that include low depth of field, and you should take out all vid noise and replace with soft music.. but its just my opinion =)
Nice. Im having quite some trouble finding a good camera, so many different models. Also these DSLR camera's that can film are interesting. What i like about it is the shallow depth of field.
Is that possible with the HSF? A shallow depth of field?
I do not own a PC or that program, so the only thing I could recommend is make sure you are using the highest settings in the camcorder. Perhaps look into other programs, such as Sony Vegas 9, which I know accepts those files in full quality.
Thanks!
dope vid HII ..hey whats the name of the track youre using?
There isn't any presets for time lapse, but here are the presets that I know of: Cinema Mode, Portrait, Sports, Night, Snow, Beach,Sunset, Spotlight, and Fireworks. Hope this helps!
Make sure you use 24 MBPS or MXP using the HF S20 while shooting in HD. Also, try to move away from WMV and try using MPEG 4 or MPEG 2 format.
Allright, thanks for the quick reply. It probably has got much to do with the youtube compression than.
For the rest, are you pleased with the camera? I intend to buy one soon, the Legria HFS100 that is.
It's called "Progressive House" and it came with iMovie 09, If you want the track send me a message.
Remember, what you see on RUclips is different from what I see on my HDTV, due to compression on RUclips.
Hey nice shots. Did you use the manual aperture? 'Cause I think closing down the aperture just a stop would give you better detail in the whites. I wanna buy the S100 but I think is not as good as detailing the whites when you shoot outdoors. Please let me know if you have tried that.
Courious what movie editing software you use. great job.
Check your speakers, audio levels fine when I previewed this clip.
Not necessarily, I imported and exported with a output in full 1080p, this works even with iMovie. Follow This: go to File>Export>Quicktime Conversion>MPEG 4>>File Format>MP4>>Video Format>H.264>>Data Rate>(Match Your kbits/sec to how many MBPS you recorded, for example 24MBPS = 24,000kbits/sec) [This ensures that you do not loose quality]>>Image Size>1920x1080 HD>>Frame Rate>Set to CURRENT. Tweak the other settings, and you have a crystal clear output.
I use FCE so not really. Imovie makes it easy to do some more complicated things but I outgrew it. I would recommend FCE to anyone looking to step up their filmmaking.
I use the highest quality settings like 24 MBPS (MXP),Cinema Mode, and 24p. That should do it.
Yeah, I used a class 6 memory card, it was recommended to get a memory card higher than class 4.
Was this video choppy for anyone else?
No, I just used P Mode with Vivid on.
Don't worry, I make these videos with the knowledge of getting many questions, I don't mind. Anyway, it seems that you live some where outside of North America, because you said you only have PF25 and 50i, which is PAL format, while north america has NTSC with PF30 and 60i. However that is no problem. Anyway, at this point, the only thing I can recommend is using a high speed memory card for the high bit-rate from the MXP mode, and use video mode instead of dual record.
This cannot be HD, look at 1:18 and the trees at 1:46. Or is this because its quite low light..? I think there was some compression going on somewhere.
I recorded in full 1920x1080p with this camcorder, I uploaded to iMovie 09, and I rendered this clip with the frame rate set to current so that it would be progressive. Hope this helps?
I believe so, however I don't have a PC, so I don't know which software to use. Sorry
Yeah I moved up to FCE last year, but I was having trouble uploading these clips to FCE, so I used iMovie for this video, but I fixed the problem.
@igorg003 Where did you find that price? The lowest I've seen the S100 for is $700, and the S10 and S11 are more like $1200. Unless you're talking about used prices?
Between 3-5 minutes.
Yes, actually I even used iMovie 09 to edit this video.
ohh and im guessing there is a preset for taking time lapsed video?? any info on camera presets would be appreciated... thanx in advance!
I used iMovie 09.
Yeah, that's about right, thats a pretty decent deal.
I was going to edit this in Final Cut Express, but I ran into some problems, so I edited in iMovie instead for this video. However all of my other videos were edited in Final Cut Express.
Well, if you are looking for a program that accepts MTS Files without any loss in quality, than you might have to buy Final Cut Studio 3, which can range from $700-$1000. Or you can buy Final Cut Express 4, which is a lot cheaper, it's around $150 and it accepts MTS files with little loss of quality.
As I know, all of Canon HD are 1080i, not 1080p. is it right? you can check your manual .
I don't know but, did you see the sunset?
So what is the differance between the HF S10 and the HF S100?
There's your problem, your supposed to only use video mode, not dual simultaneous recording. Using that setting will make you loose quality. Also to get the best film or realistic results you should use 24p for film-like results or 30p for real-life like results.
Well this is the original copy, but youtube compressor can create loss of quality.
@HiiDefinition
Sorry, hidef, I have a S11 and have problems with jaged lines when importing to imovie when it was made in 50i.
I just want to know if final cut express can resolve this problem or I have to use final cut pro. thats a dimension I would not want to go, I would prefer the Express.
Do you know if it can do it? When you import to final cut do you de-interlace? How do you do it for not having jaged lines, if I may ask.
PS: sorry mistakes of words, I am not english.
Best regards,
Yeah, iMovie 09 comes with iLife 09, and iMovie is the program I used to edit this video.
did you edit all these in iMovie?
Sorry ,
Imovie9 doesn´t have any presets to import from cameras. ( only things like best image and so on).
Either my HF S11 is with a malfunction or Imovie9 is not good for this camera. (it was already in canon assistence). My Imac is Model Name: iMac
Model Identifier: iMac9,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.66 GHz
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 6 MB
Memory: 4 GB
@Hidef you say that when importing to imovie ( 50i ) you see the image well?
Pal, Legria Canon hf s11.
@AngrySlop Did you set the project file to 1080p resolution before starting? Cause i had the same problem in pinnacle with a different camera, and it worked. Idk if thats what you have going on but i guess its worth a try
Hello.. great footage.. I am new at this, I just want to know, what's the video format do you save? I save it as WMV - 1920*1080 P30.. because it's not as clear as yours even on 1080p.. I tested it on youtube.. not the same!! I have CANON LEGRIA HF S20
Thanks in advance
im thinking of purchasing an iMac with 3.06Ghz Core 2 Duo with 4gb ram 1066Mhz SDRAM, and The Vixia HF S10 so my question is on videos in the Full HD 24Mbps how long is rendering times for a video about this length??
@igorg003 i was thinkin of buying from B&H at $700. Ffrom whr u getting at $550?
Speed? It was a class 6 memory card, what do you mean by speed?
You need at least a Intel Core Duo, but here are my specs:
3.17 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with a memory of 6 GB 1066 MHz SDRAM
Well first off, what computer do you have and what editing program are you using.
dope vid but the soundtrack doesnt fit the video at all...it sounds like it's from mirror's edge!! dont get me wrong its dope as hell just not for all the "nature shots" lol good job tho!
That type of computer is probably not strong enough to handle such high quality HD videos, you would need to buy a new computer. These video clips that come from this camera do take up some space; five minutes takes up 1gb.
@HiiDefinition: 24p and 30p when I render the file right? cos I went through the menu, there is no 30p anywhere..
and under frame rate: there is 50i (standard), and PF25.. which is better to use? something like what you are using..
Sorry for bombarding you with questions, but I really want to take footage just like yours, they are so high standard.. I hope I am not bothering you :)
if it's easier, you can just list your specs for the shooting (on camera options) and rendering options.thanks
@HiiDefinition : Thanks for your prompt reply.. I am using MXP.. what's your Frame Rate? mine is 50i, and Simultaneous Recording: 1920X1080..
I will try and save the file as MPEG 2 or 4..
Ok??
what program do you use to edit your video? i have a Hf s100 and adobe premiere elements 8 DOES NOT work. i need to find something that will work.
Found any solution for 1080p in FCE?
Alright, well first, what format camera and computer do you have? NTSC or PAL? Vixia or Legria?
Well what type of computer do you have? Mac, or PC?
i have windows 7
Is this really HD?
how did you post this in 1080p?
Maybe your computer can't handle 1080p video.
.MTS
@igorg003 Go to newegg(dot)com
Thanks!
What type of computer do you have? A Windows or a Mac?
