Hi Julie, Thanks for the kind words. Ive been growing exotics in my garden for 40 years. The first 20 were very hard as I was given a lot of bad advice from “ garden experts “
However, through trial and error, things now do seem to fall into place.
Not exactly an expert, but I do well with what I grow in my z9b garden and hope that I can influence other interested individuals with similar plant interests and growing conditions a try.
      Thanks for watching!

Hi Jeff, I just received my 2 air layered longan trees that I bought online. They are still in their pots. I also bought 3 longan seedlings. Thanks for your advice and posting this video. I hope this time around my longan trees won’t die and bare sweet fruits like your tree. Thanks again, Nae

But…… The sun is lower in the sky so the plants can deal much better with heat than last month. And we dont start cooling down until mid Oct!

@@TropicalGardenGuy I used to live in Southern California for most of my life. Back then I didn't think of planting anything. Now, in East Texas from the beginning of this year, I am planting fruit trees, especially tropical fruit trees and looking to plant longan, jackfruit, mangos, and many other tropical fruit trees as I recall we had in our property back home in Cambodia. I guess I am pushing the limit here in zone 8b. I don't know what will survive. I may have to babysit them in containers until they are more mature to put them in the ground. I have 2 acres lot here and want to plant densely in hope they will protect each other from cold winds. I don 't know if that will work or not. Seeing the production of your Longan reminds me of my childhood home. Congratulations on your success.

@topicalgardenguy I add fish fertilizer with nitrogen and potassium and phosphorus. Like every two weeks has directed I give them two different types of fertilizer. The brand is Alaska.. one of them doesn’t have nitrogen and the other one has 10 potassium and 10 phosphorus and the other fertilizer has five nitrogen and one phosphorus and one potassium. How often should I water the tree and having the routine of the liquid fertilizer is a good? I live in Southern California and I see that it doesn’t have a lot of fruit like yours

This spring, I’ve been using just a small amount of citrus and avocado tree fert. You have to be careful about the nitrogen though. A fert low in nitrogen and higher in potassium is best

Hi. Wow. Such a beautiful tree!! We have a longan tree that is probably 20+ years old and i’ve never been able to have fruit get to the “picking” stage. We see baby fruit then they die. We live in so cal. Does the tree require lots of water? That may be our problem. Thanks!

    • @TropicalGardenGuy

Yes, lots of water, but good drainage. , Low nitrogen , high potassium fertilizer and a soil ph of 7 or below is ideal,

I really want one of these, should I wait till spring to plant or just do it now. I'm in SoCal. I found a lady after talking with someone at a nursery that has them. Has anyone grown these from seed, I've bought them at the supermarket? Thanks for sharing.

    • @TropicalGardenGuy
      @TropicalGardenGuy  2 года назад +2

If you have a healthy air layer tree, I’d plant now.
Growing from seed, you generally have to wait 10 or more years to get fruit and you never know how the fruit is gonna turn out

You got the name correct! Lol
Unfortunately, I dont sell plants so you’ll either have to head down to SoCal or get one online. Be prepared to pay over $100.
This said, if a good sized tree is planted in a good draining soil in mostly full sun, you should be rewarded with fruit in 2 or 3 years.
      Good luck and Happy growing!
