These are the exotic longan fruit. I will be using the E-Dor variety, grown locally here in Thailand. I found longan seeds easy to grow and got great results planting the seeds directly in soil. Trees grown from seed may take up to 6 years to bear fruit, air-layered trees may bear fruit in 2-3 years. The tree may grow to over 100 feet (30 m) in height, but it typically stands 30-40 ft (9-12 m) in height. In general, longan trees do not necessarily bear fruit every year, and in some years little or no fruit is produced. Longan seeds contain saponin which is dangerous and poisonous for both dogs and humans. It is grown in Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam and Taiwan. In the United States, longan is grown in Florida, Texas, Nevada, Georgia, California, Hawaii, and Arizona. They are also grown in Australia, along the eastern coast.

Thanks for watching!
Thanks
Yes another urban gardening video
Thanks 4 watching
Great video
Nice. Thank you.
Thank you, Sir! After the Holidays, I will plant my longan seeds and see how it will go.
Great!
THNKSSS♥️
Mine grew from the compost pit I threw them in and I thought they'd decompost together with the peels. When I took some compost later on, I saw them having 6-7 inches root so I planted them properly.
Wow. Great story!
Very helpful, thanks!
You're welcome
I was trying to grow this plant since 2 years, but I always keep the seed in upside down so not coming out the plant, now I got how to place them in the soil
Thank you 😂
watching from Philippines
Watching from indo:D
hi, thanks for the video. how many times per week do you water the seedlings?
Well, I cannot tell you exactly as it depends on your particular environment. These are tropical plants that grow in a hot and humid climate, so try to duplicate that as best you can.
This was super helpful thank you so mucch for this video. And I have a few questions about it
1) I live in a temperate climate, so we have hot summers and cold winters. When is the best time to plant the seeds?
2) how often should it be exposed to sunlight, and will it die because of low temperatures and winter?
Thanks again!!
I suggest you start growing the seeds after the last frost of the season as they can be damaged or killed in long stretches of temperatures below freezing. Younger plants tend to be more vulnerable to the cold than those more mature. 2. The full grown plants will require plenty of sun, but seedlings should probably be protected from extreme sun that might burn the leaves. And yes extreme cold will kill these trees as they are tropical.
@@LuckyDogTraveler thank you so much for these tips and for answering my questions , I really appreciate it!!
Can it be grown in San Jose city (California state)? Thank you for your wonderful video.
Glad you enjoyed the vid. I'm not sure. They can be grown in "U.S. Department of Agriculture plant hardiness zones 9 through 11". I don't think they can tolerate a hard freeze, so you'd be taking a chance I'd say.
Interesting, I just have some longan seeds on my hand from the ones I consumed, I plan to plant them. have you try to soak it in onion water overnight? many people using it to make it sprout faster using that method.
Nope. Let us know how it goes
Can you sprout a longan in a green house?
Also is it better to leave the seed in soil in direct sunlight or medium sunlight? And does drying or soaking the seeds affect the growing? Thanks for the video it was helpful.
I'm sure you can sprout seeds in a greenhouse. As I recall the seeds in soil were left in indirect light. I didn't dry or soak the seeds so l don't know if it would effect the growing.
@@LuckyDogTraveler Ok thanks for the advice!
mine, I planted the seeds, leaving half of them exposed directly onto garden soil on a seedling pot. Make sure thst the water is well drained not to rot the seed. I placed a cover on the pot to shield the seeds from dorect sunlight.
What should I do if there is a fungus grown on seed after a week
Try replacing paper towel with a clean one and sterilize container and seed with a weak bleach solution of 1 parts bleach to 9 parts water.
What should I do if the leaves turn yellow?
Hard to say. Here's some good info www.thesill.com/blogs/care-miscellaneous/why-plant-leaves-turn-yellow
When will i going to plant the papertowel grow longan i think theyre not growing anymore it seems they stop growing
You can plant the sprouts in soil anytime you wish. Both the moist paper towel method and planting directly in soil method work about equally well.
But do longan plants grown from seed bear fruit. Many vedios saying only grafted veriety will have fruit
I am not a commercial grower. On the internet it says that "if you grow longan tree from seeds, it usually takes 5 to 6 years for Longan trees to bear fruit, whereas air layering plants can bear fruit 2 to 3 years after planting."
Hello, Very Interesting video. I have few questions.
01) How long does it takes to have fruits ? I mean how many years will it be taken to start having fruits (from seeds planting date)
02) will it grow in Sri Lanka ?
03) If yes, How can I get those seeds ?
Thanks ♥️
Thanks for watching. #1) See description. Air layering best for quicker fruiting. #2) They should grow in Sri Lanka, as it is tropical. They grow here in Thailand and in India theindianvegan.blogspot.com/2012/10/all-about-longan.html #3) I don't have or sell seeds. Check local online vendors, or maybe import from India?
@@LuckyDogTraveler thank you very much

Mine does not germinate
Sorry to hear your seeds did not germinate. Please feel free to comment again describing your specific situation
I grew a longan from seed . It's been 7 years still it's not flowered yet 🥺
Sorry your tree hasn't flowered yet. I hope it produces fruit soon
i have LOTS of seeds(someone gave me a lot of fruit and i saved all the seeds.) i washed them and let them dry for a week. some got a bit wrinkled.....i'm assuming that's ok.
i planted them in a starter tray of 50 holes.
i soaked the soil as i always do the day i plant any seeds. but from tomorrow on it's a normal sprinkle in the morning and at night.
gonna be giving away a lot of trees next year :D
Exciting. Let us know how it goes!
Hi there! We would like to hear an update
@@user-zw3rg2go4o none of them sprouted.
in total i've planted over 100 longan seeds, with 0% success rate. some of them were from an actual tree nearby, and some were bought off the internet.i need to try a different approach.
@@sabin97 That’s the spirit! I just planted five seeds and not gonna lie. Will be disappointed if none sprout.
Keep us in the loop when you try a new approach though.
