    Thanks! I have not heard any reports of problems with the longan trees in other countries, but longans are doing very well here in south Florida!

    You are correct, the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources listed longans as a threatened species in 1998. The trees is native to SE Asia and is grown throughout the tropics and subtropics, mostly in Thailand, China, Taiwan, Vietnam, Australia, and Florida & Hawaii. Those trees are all cultivars bred for their fruit and they number in the hundreds of thousands of trees. The original species is re-sprouting from logged trees. So our tasty fruit looks safe.

    They are a bit tiny. Need to come to Kadavu, Fiji to feast on proper sized ones in buckets. Eating style is fresh put into a container of fresh sea water and peeled and washed in the seawater which gives it a bit of sea salt that brings out its sweetness then straight into the mouth.

    @xeirem15 HI! You can expect to get longan fruit from a seedling tree in the 5-10 years range. If you have planted an air layered or grafted tree, you should look for fruit in about 2 years, if it has been grown under good care.
    Thanks!

      Could the longan seeds germinate in the Caribbean? I brougth around 40 seeds from NYC. Average temperature is around 80-90 F . There's a similar fruit named "quenepas" or Spanish Lime in english which I believe is a relative to the "soap berries" like the longan.

    Hi,
    Try contacting one of our growers listed on our website, ,to send you some seeds. I am not sure how long the seeds will stay viable, or alive. Many tropical fruit seeds do not last long once the fruit has ripened, but give them a try.
    One thing to consider - trees that are grown from seed will take 5,6,7 years or so before they bear fruit. A tree that is propagated from an air layer or grafted, will produce fruit in about 2-3 years. A HUGE time saver!

    It's unlikely that longans will grow in northern California out doors as the temperature is too cold and the light level is not high enough for them to flower. San Francisco is at latitude 38 degrees. Homestead, FL is at 25.5 degrees. You may be able to provide enough warmth in a greenhouse, and enough light with additional lighting to keep them alive, but I doubt you will have much success with getting them to fruit. But if you try it, let us know how you do!!! Good luck!

    Longan is native to southern and southwestern China, is China longan mainly distributed in Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian and Taiwan provinces (regions), in addition, Hainan, Sichuan, Yunnan and Guizhou provinces are also small-scale cultivation.

      China can grown longan, but longan original from Vietnamese, now adays longan tree in many asian country (tropical country)
      Im not say that because im Vietnamese, i say its true because Vietnamese sell many longan to Chinese from hundred years ago, the time when non chinese have to eat them just sell for rich people or king. Google it, by the way no fighting, its just fruit & im glad everybody have fresh fruits!
      But if you ever been Vietnamese try Longan from south to the north of VN to see the different, longan from south & north vietnam is different, both taste good but longan from north is the best.

      Lily Tran Lily Longan cultivation in China has recorded at least two thousand years of history, is mainly produced in the southern provinces of China, Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi, Yunnan, Sichuan, the total area of southern China, Vietnam and the neighboring Guangdong, China, spread to Vietnam is a natural thing. • @louisek9275
      @louisek9275 5 лет назад

      Hi! Longans like water but then need to be dried out. They don't like to stand in water at all. When you water, give the pot a good dousing and let it drain. Don't water again until the soil is dry. I am not sure of the humidity and temperature levels in your area so can't give you a time line. Just feel the soil and when it is dry an inch or two below the soil line, re-water.
      Good luck!

    Why is it every time I see videos like this, they keep calling this fruit 'Logan'? This is not a Logan - it's Lum Yi (also known as Dragon Eye). Logan does not have the single dark seed in the middle - they have multiple seeds (sometimes) and the fruit splits apart like a small see-through orange. The outter skin of the Logan is lighter colored and does not have the pattern that the Dragon Eye does on its exterior. These would be experts have gotten it all wrong, and it's not just one person.

    • @stevenlauj725
      @stevenlauj725 9 лет назад

      they're the same in health wise...they're both in the same family, just that lychee has spiky needle like skin, while the longan is smooth coat.....also in my opinion, the longan has more meat and sweeter than lychee.....

    • @TropicalFruitGrowers
      @TropicalFruitGrowers  9 лет назад

      Yes, hmoobyaj90 is correct, lychee and longan are in he same family. Longans have a smoother skin than the soft bumpy skin of the lychee fruit. They both have similar health benefits.

    • @lilytranlily6530
      @lilytranlily6530 9 лет назад

      Longan is more sweeter than lychee even both taste sweet lol, i like the smell of longan more too, btw i eat them both haha :)
      Im surprise Longan grow in there, the taste is different??? Longan is orginin from Vietnam, tropical place & it rairse in another country in Asian like China, Thailand...
      In hundred year til now Vietnam export Longan to China even China have grow own longan but nothing can against Longan from Vietnamese cause im VNese so i know it
      But the best fruit for eat & healthy is Mangosteen, i love mangosteen & jackfruit, not durian. Durian look alike jackfruit but smaller & strong smell.
      Lychee in Vietnamese is Vai (Vải), Longan is Nhan (Nhãn), Mangosteen is Mang Cau (Mãng Cầu)

    if you have tasted lychee or rambutan, logan taste closer to them. lychee and rambutan are more luxurious tasting that logans. sometimes lychee and rambutan can get price prohibitive. that's when i would reach for a logan. lychee is my favourite by far. especially the high grade ones which are big and juicy; with a reddish tinge to them.
