      My 2 Longans are growing well and continue to produce fruits. Atemoya actually do better in Vegas than Sugar Apple. I have 1 sugar apple and will be planning to buy Geffner Atemoya soon. They will need to be protected in the winter for first few years. Looking forward for another tropical grower to Las Vegas. Connect me on Instagram: GreenMangoesLV if you need helps.

    • @GreenMangoes
      @GreenMangoes  2 года назад

      I have had this longan for about 2 years. Bought it when it was in 7 gallons container and had a lot of roots. I would typically repot to 15 gallons first but since longan doesn't like to be disturbed much, I jumped straight to 25 gallons container. With the condition that the root ball is already big and soil with a lot of drainage (Fox Farm Ocean Forest). This is my 2nd year and it already bear fruit. Super yummy. I would say that longan grows pretty fast, giving the idea condition and feed properly.

    Long, you know I love and appreciate your efforts and passion, but Las Vegas will occasionally, maybe once in a decade get down to single digits. That's the reason that there's no old growth tropicals here. It even kills a lot of sub tropical citrus. I moved here in 1987 and enjoyed winter until 1990 when it was 10 degree's. It doesn't happen every year, but it happens and tropical growers need to be prepared for it.

    • @GreenMangoes
      @GreenMangoes  2 года назад +4

      Thank you Tim. I'm actually very concern and taking huge risks because tropical trees are not cheap. If it does get down to single digits, all of my tropical trees will get damage, even having the heater in greenhouse will not be able to bring temp above 45 degrees. I'm trying to control myself not to buy anymore because the effort to protect a few trees are still doable, but a lot of them will not be practical. As I mentioned in the videos, they're picky, from soil to fertilzers and everything else. Growing peaches, plums, apricots, and pomegranates are much more enjoyable in our climate. Once in a while I do need a reality check and refrain myself from buying too many hahaha. Definitely not the climate for them.

      Single digits no longer exist in Las Vegas. In fact winters have been getting significantly warmer by the decade. Apparently Las Vegas makes the list for one of the top three fastest warming cities with number one being Reno. Last time it got down to single digits was in 1990 at 11 F. That was at least 30 years ago! If anything, desiccation and extreme heat will more likely kill tropicals in the valley than cold would. Some parts of the valley actually hover between a zone 9b to 10a.
