  • This came out longer than I'd hoped so ya maaaaaaay wanna fast forward here and there(I'll forgive ya).
    The paint peeling has gotten a lil worse, but I still don't hate it :D
    Also, please forgive my hair for going rogue and sliding into frame. Sometimes its hard to contain, and a bit broke free from restraint, haha.
    Thanks for watchin, and keep on kraken!

    The figure looks good but you'd have to repaint them silver everytime there's a peeling. Rubber body don't take paints for long

      Happy to hear it!
      One of my goals with this little channel is to try and explore smaller, third party companies.
      As a collector myself, I know how helpful a quick unboxing video or review can be, and with some of these companies, there really isn't much out there.
      Should have one from I8Toys and TBLeague in the coming weeks if you're interested :)
      And thank you so much for watching, it truly makes my day!

    To hold his pose, you should utilize the snake clamp base working with silver HERO base. He looks good beside the peeling paint. It look like they didn't allow the paint to dry good enough before putting him in the gray foam shell. That is what's on the body as well. I'm considering getting him. How is he holding up since it's now December 2, 2021?

    • @figurekraken4317
      @figurekraken4317  2 года назад +3

      I try to avoid using stands if I can (i just dont like the look) but it's pretty much necessary to keep him in an upright pose, so I get a bit more use out of his than others.
      He's held up pretty well for me so far, the little blemish on his chest hasnt gotten any worse, and theres a few little spots on the back of his calfs.
      I have noticed my fingers are a bit sparkly after playing around with him, so the paint is definitely sensitive. That being said, i try to avoid touching the body when I can. He's in a pose I like, so when im cleaning i just adjust him a bit by holding the stand and/or his head :)

    great video, had been looking for one for this figure. How is the figure holding up now? An did you manage to make him stand ? Can you share a picture or video of how your pose looks now?

    • @figurekraken4317
      @figurekraken4317  2 года назад

      Thank you so much!
      I've had a few folks ask about him so I plan to do a follow up video soon :)
      All things considered, he's held up pretty well for the amount of action he sees.
      I have the base out as a center piece on a table, so he's often getting played with, repositioned, or switched with other figures. Basically he gets handled a LOT.
      There's a few safe poses he can be in without the clear stand (he ends up supported by the display base) but usually I have it on for extra support.
      The base took a pretty bad fall, but a lil glue and it's good to go(was about a 4 ft drop, one on the planets popped off).
      The figure itself has lost a little paint on the back of his calves, and theres a lil blemish on his chest which isn't really noticeable unless someone points it out. He does leave your fingers a little sparkly so I know he's losing color.
      Fortunately no cracks or anything, just discoloration, which I'll eventually have to touch up im sure.

    Not sure this figure is worth more than $100, it looks flimsy but that base diorama is amazing.

    • @figurekraken4317
      @figurekraken4317  2 года назад

      His feet aren't as stable as I'd like, but that's not too uncommon with seamless feet.
      Honestly with 1/6 scale, I tend to think most people would say they're overpriced, and I'd agree to an extent.
      But at the same time, I dont view these the same as other collectibles. They really aren't "worth it" unless you really love the character, and even then there are options like statues, props, etc.
      For me, having a good looking, posable, Silver Surfer is worth a lot more than a hundred bucks, but I certainly wouldn't say that holds true for everyone :)

  • @BlueDragonCustoms

    So its been several months now, hows he holding up?

    • @figurekraken4317
      @figurekraken4317  2 года назад +1

      Honestly pretty well so far, but I have been a bit more careful with him than my other figures.
      Once I noticed my fingers got a bit sparkly after posing him, I started wearing gloves(unless im just doing tiny adjustments). While its probably a little excessive, it does seem to prevent the paint from rubbing off, so none of the spots have gotten any worse.
      No noticeable cracks yet which is good, but we're getting into the hot/humid months, so that might change over the next month or two.
      I might move him into more of a generic museum pose in the coming months, but thats just to try the base out with a little Serenity model I have :)

    Nice figure. I wonder if the silver paint will flake easily though.

    • @figurekraken4317
      @figurekraken4317  2 года назад +2

      I do think it will rub off over time, especially in high stress areas like the joints, but I dont mind too much.
      It feels similar to a latex paint in a lot of ways, so i would expect more of a peeling than a crack/flaking.
      Fortunately, since hes just a solid color, I can probably touch him up over the years as needed. Even with my very limited painting ability, lol.
      And since there aren't many other options for Silver Surfer, I don't mind giving him some extra TLC over the years 😀
      If you'd like some updates down the road on how he's holding up, feel free to ask!
      Hope you have a great one, and thank you so much for watching!

    Do not spray paint it it wont hold, you need somthing specific to that kind of metirial

    • @figurekraken4317
      @figurekraken4317  2 года назад

      I know there are some good pastels you can get for silicone, but im all ears if ya have other recommendations.
      To be honest though, with him not really needing any detail, save maybe a basic wash, i feel like hed be fine.
      Dont get me wrong, im in no rush to do it, but a few years from now, an oil based primer and paint should be OK. Especially if im doing more of a pose, paint, place type of thing where I dont need to move him much.
      And again, it would be at the point where the bodies cracked or the paints peeled excessively. Worst case I ruin it and body swap, which.. im kinda stupid, so theres a good chance thatd happen, lol.

    How can you charge so much for a figure that main feature, main gimmick, standing and surfing on the cosmic board don't work?

    • @figurekraken4317
      @figurekraken4317  2 года назад

      That's a much more complicated question to answer than you may think, lol.
      While it is a bit crazy, figures in this scale are often in that price range(or quite a bit more in some cases) and it's not too unusual for them to have difficulties standing by themselves. Especially if it's a seamless body with soft feet like this fella.
      If you use the clear grabber he comes with, it's not terribly noticeable and keeps him balanced well.
      That being said, they definitely could have done something with magnets to solve the problem, and I've debated modding mine just to avoid needing the stand.

    Great review but this is not a TB League / Phicen body- those have metal skeletons and do not have ratchets - which is what you heard when you moved the abs, shoulders and hips..

      To be honest, I just assumed they used a thicker frame for the male bodies due to the size difference, and unfortunately King Tuts delayed so I didnt have any boys for reference.
      You are absolutely right though, it is not a Phicen :(
      Good thing about comment sections is when I'm wrong, people can fix it 😀

    The problem with the Surfer in the movies (and merch) is that in the comics he WASN'T actually sliver. To create that look, colorists used plain white and sky blue with heavy black lines for texture. As can be seen, he looks too robotic done othetwise.

    • @figurekraken4317
      @figurekraken4317  2 года назад

      Youre not wrong, and it is fun to think about. Especially when you consider how gold, copper, steel, etc are done in books but look fine in sculpts/movies.
      Honestly think that just shows you how incredibly amazing Terminator 2 is.
      The fact that we look at a shiny silver naked dude and immediately think "robot" despite there not being any actual robots that look that way is very interesting to me.

      Yea, the chrome/silver is tricky to do well, especially on a seamless body. Even on hard plastic it doesn't always come out too well.
      But, all things considered, I think they did a pretty good job. I'm definitely happy with it, especially at the cost(was a bit more affordable for me than some of the statues that I liked of him).
      And thanks for the tip on the powder, i'll definitely do some playing with it :)

      And yes, his feet definitely could be a bit more solid to help with balance. He did come with a clear grabber stand, so that helps a bit(just need to do some work so its not overly noticeable)
      I've also had some luck positioning him to where he's using parts of the base for extra balance :)
      You're absolutely right about the base, it would be amazing for Captain Marvel!
