My father (born 1919) loved the long song. He was an early adopter of rock music (and took me to a number of concerts). He loved the long cut more than anything. Pink Floyd - Meddle, for example, was one of his favorite to have a nap to. My personal favorites are the Walk On medley (from Boston's 4th album) and a very unknown Changing Reels (Chilliwack). Honorable mention to Space Truckin' (Deep Purple).
Excellent points, although most of your statements in the final part will apply to any musician whose music does not fit into the 60 second framework, not just the long form composers. RUclips can be an excellent tool to build up a small but dedicated fanbase that may some day support you going full time. To achieve this, you have to understand how YT works and then hone your craft accordingly. As football coach Fred Pentland said when he took over as manager of Athletic Bilbao in the early 1920s: Get the basics right, the rest will follow.
Great point, Ralf! Our thought is that regular-length songs can be captured on YT by simply taking a video of the artist playing the tune, whereas longer-duration songs will require much more creativity in the videography. Regardless, your underlying premise is certainly sound: "you have to understand how YT works and then hone your craft accordingly." Brilliant! We couldn't have said it better.

Great tunes, Floyd!
