About us: Just over one year ago, after a long time of hoping, dreaming, and planning, we sold or gave away almost everything we owned and left the United States to begin our journey with four children as an expat family. We moved to Leipzig, Germany, a beautiful city in the state of Saxony. This is our story.

How are things?.omg, you made outstanding masterpiece- friend!
Thanks! 👍
Thanks for sharing this. You clearly are a good cook judging by the empty dishes. I am glad you could spend the day with friends, makes you feel a lot more at home.
Thanks! The food was delicious, and it was great to share our traditions with some friends! 😃
I need a scent monitor🤣
Lol, that would be a great invention!
Thanks for having us! The food was sooo good! 🤩
Thanks for coming! It was great to have you here!
We do have our own Thanksgiving feast in Germany, it's called "Erntedankfest" (harvest thank feast) and it is celebrated on the first Sunday after St. Michael's day (29th Sept.), so on the last Sunday in September or the first in October. It isn't such a big deal like in the U.S. and rather a religious holiday in rural communities. It is also overshadowed by the Unification day on the 3rd Oct.
Your turkey was most probably not a male turkey but a female "Pute" which are more commonly sold here and are smaller.
Now that you mention it, I do remember hearing something about Erntedankfest, but it definitely did not seem to be as big as Thanksgiving is. Everyone is off from school and work (for the most part) and you spend a whole day cooking and spending time with friends and family. And unofficially, a lot of people believe that Thanksgiving weekend is when you're allowed to decorate for Christmas, so it feels like a celebration of moving into the Christmas season.
I'm still hoping to find a large Turkey next year - if you know where I can find one, let me know!
@@OnwardMJ In Germany you can prepare for Advent - not for Xmas as the tree and other things we put up around Xmas eve - after Totensonntag which was last Sunday (the Sunday between 20th and 26th of November).
@@geneviere199 We have noticed that Advent (and Advent calendars) are a big deal here!
@@OnwardMJ It is not just the advent calendars - it is the whole time in Advent waiting on and preparing for Xmas. The Adventskranz with the four candles for each of the weeks. The Xmas markets. The baking of cookies etc. Nikolaus at the eve before the 6th or the morning of the 6th (depends on which part in Germany you live in). The celebrations in companies, schools and kindergartens...
We fully decorate with cribs and the tree at X-mas eve or the day before - and it stays until the new year, the holy 3 kings' day on January 6th or even Maria Lichtmeß (February 2nd - Candlemas)
Maaaan as a native german i would LOOOOVE to enjoy a genuine thanks giving feast 😍😍😍
It's awesome! Who knows, maybe one year I'll cook a thanksgiving feast for some subscribers...
I miss thankgiving dinner. I just cant justify cooking so much food for only 2 and I had bariatric surgery so I cant even eat very much.
That looks delicious, Chef MJ . 🍗
Thanks, it was! I'm looking forward to cooking more for Christmas!
MJ. Bitte mehr Kochvideos! 😁🐿
Für dich, natürlich! Weihnachtsessen, amerikanisches Essen... Ich werde bald mehr Kochvideos machen. 😁👍
looks yummie
i´m more the duck and goose guy (from my aunt 😍 i know they had a good life till the end)
Thanksgiving also exists here (in the south), but is more religious and also not an official holiday. The churches are decorated with vegetables and grains.
I love duck and goose! I cooked a goose here last Christmas and it was amazing! We'll probably do that again for Christmas this year.
The lone Thanksgiving tradition I've picked up over the past decades is to watch the NFL Tripleheader on German TV. Thanksgiving really isn't a factor at all in GER....... Anyhow: Happy Thanksgiving to every US-Expat!
Watching football is definitely a great tradition!
I would eat that turkey alone. Darn, I'm too gluttonous! And the hams would be my midnight snack! -___-
It was delicious and I can definitely eat a lot of turkey! But sometimes we have to share! 🤣
🤣Thanks Giving brought Europeans to America, so you don't need to explain to anyone what this holiday means!Sorry guy; but the USA does not have an independent culture, because what you call your culture today comes from Europe! The language and all the knowledge - comes from Europe! Actually, the USA is only a branch of Europe!
While I understand your point, I'd have to disagree with the US not having an independent culture and just being a branch of Europe. Of course, there are a lot of things that were borrowed (stolen) from other cultures, but the same can be said for many European cultures too. But there are certainly a lot of cultural contributions that came from the States. But I appreciate the culture here (and all over the world really) which is why we wanted to leave the US and explore and experience these things as a family.
But Thanksgiving in the US is special, and we enjoyed sharing our traditions with friends and with viewers that may not have known what a big deal it was for us. 👍
