    These pilots are amazing. I'm so freaked out when it takes off and lands and these guys are "another day at the office". This technology is amazing. The best that man is capable of.

    The responsibility of these two men is immense. So many souls behind and below them. It is amazing that an area that small controls a plane that big.

      @@chrispbacun6861 cargo planes transports a lot of money worth of cargo :) and still these planes can be dangerous to us on the ground, so yeah they still definitely have a lot of responsibility!

    The responsibility of those men is enormous. It must get boring though, sitting in such cramped conditions, for great lengths of time. I'd wanna go for a walk somewhere!💨

    Love the harmony on deck. That's how you fly. Tweaks and adjustments all the time, Good Video.
    Thanks.
    Planes defo prefer the air as opposed to concrete. The plane soon glides over the concrete and ALL the weight is actually airborne even before take off
    The plane gets to a speed whilst tramming down the runway and all it wants to do is take to the sky. Physics!

    • @mikecimerian6913
      @mikecimerian6913 9 лет назад

      I suppose you heard about how "tough" it was to land a Vulcan bomber. It had so much lift it didn't want to land. :-)

    • @chrishulk1
      @chrishulk1 9 лет назад +1

      Mike Cimerian Haha. Don't you just love the harness of physics? And I didn't know about the Vulcan being more difficult to land than other aircraft. Now you mention it, it makes perfect sense. Sounds like Concorde when its tear arsing down the runway, according to one of the captains, "all Concorde wants to do is get into the air into its natural environment". It's a travesty in what happened to Concorde.
      Happy new year!

    My Father was a pilot in the Air Force for many years ... and he continued in the aviation industry after he retired. I spent many hours with him while he showed me anything and everything on the aircraft he spent so many hours on. I have to say that I'm completely amazed every time a plane leaves the ground, and the skill that it takes to get it in the air, and keep it there. I have the most profound respect for you guys that cannot be put into words. Thank You for keeping us all safe!!!

    There's nothing simple or natural about a 400,000 lb plus piece of aluminum getting into the air. I admire all that make it happen.... from the designers to the builders of each component. And especially to the crews that take these beautiful planes to the skies and bring them back safely... cheers

  • @gilbertbeaulieu5042
    @gilbertbeaulieu5042 10 лет назад +5

    Yes, there are lots of switches and buttons and gauges. BUT remember, almost all of theses buttons and gauges are in 2 copies of each, one for pilot, one for co-pilot, all for added safety. Now take your car, and double all the buttons, gauges and dashboard lights. Add a second set of steering wheel, gas and brake pedal. Does your car start to look complicated ? Now look at your PC keyboard. Lots of buttons there too. Well, the 3 flight computers there each have a separate keyboard. So yes there are lots of buttons and switches, but you should feel better knowing there 2 of each in case the first one fail. Planes are very safe today.

      Next time you have time, enter 'solo flights' here on the tube, and check out the number of teenage girls going through their first solo flight. 15, 16, 17 year old girls taking off, climbing, and then landing. It's awesome, and yes, a few look a bit anxious, but the reward on their faces overcomes that emotion of anxiety. @ Ailsa Rodrigues in particular.

    You know you don't realize sitting back being a passenger. How MUCH training goes into flying these winged monsters. Until you see a pilot and co-pilot in the cockpit doing there EXTREMELY dangerous jobs of keeping these monsters in the air. And what a pleasure it is to be in such experienced hands. So to ALL the pilots, co-pilots, & flight attendants out there. Thank you for providing us your passengers the pleasure of going anywhere we want to around this vast world of ours.

    My pleasure man.
    Flap retraction and extension is dependent upon dynamic pressure (in other words, airspeed) so it only depends on speed directly. However, pressure changes with altitude, so in a way - it can be co-dependent on altitude to a degree but not usually since the wing is cleaned up completely within a few thousand feet of altitude in most cases.

    It's SOP to push the throttles up to a certain point, usually about +/-50%. This allows the engines to "stabilize". After a quick scan to verify the engines are all normal, and if doing an auto throttle takeoff, TOGA is engaged. In low b-ybass engines (like the JT-8D ie.727/DC9), there are "surge bleed valves" that must modulate open/closed based on the amount of air passing through the compressor. Momentarily pausing at say 1.2 EPR on a 727, allows the pilot to confirm a valve is not stuck.

    I'm a private pilot who also has a good friend(and current Camp Perry hut-mate/ rifle shooting partner) who flies MD-11's for Fed-Ex.
    He's somewhere north of 20K hours, type rated in many commercial AC's, flew for "legacies" and is an ex-Naval Aviator(there are no "pilots" in the Navy BTW)...that's where we met in 1985.
    He's told me on multiple occasions how many "new hires"(regionals) in todays modern glass cockpits are stymied with moderate stick and rudder airmanship skills challenges.

    Yeah. When you put the landing gear lever to the "off" position (middle position) it shuts off all hydro to the gears. When you put it all the way up. It uses hydro pressure to raise the gear. And to lower it.

  • @johnsmithsitizen8739
    @johnsmithsitizen8739 10 лет назад

    Yes. The autopilot is programmed with coordinates and speed and altitude can be set manually. The pilot is mostly supervising the computer pilot and performing take offs and and landings. Of course they could fly the entire distance manually, but robots are great at things like keeping a plane level going 600+ mph at FL400

    It's the "off" position of the landing gear lever between gear up and gear down. Once the landing gear is up and locked the hydraulic system moving it is no longer needed for the rest of the flight and is switched off by moving the lever to centre position.

    Yes, you retract flaps according to an "airspeed schedule" - hence you do it incrementally. Each flap setting has an aerodynamic limit. The same goes when on approach and setting up for landing.
