Thanks. From today's point of view, I feel a bit sad that video technology wasn't better then. But still, I am glad that at least once in time I thought of capturing this exciting moment.
I lost count how many times I landed on this strip, but everytime I went to Hong Kong I crossed my fingers for 8 hour hoping we would land in this direction - its great stuff. I say bring back Kai Tak!
Oh. Why was I thinking it was Cathay Pacific. I guess because it's been Hong Kong's biggest airline for a long time. My dad had told me that he flew Cathay Pacific from Los Angeles to Hong Kong back in the late 1980s when Kai Tai airport was still open.
I miss those days when the world trade center was still up, hong kong was under British rule, and there were low flying jets throughout hong kong I landed here in 1989 on a Malaysian airlines and it was a chance of a lifetime. Now, times have changed and you have to drive 16 miles to the airport and the jets arent as low flying as they were in the 90's
I could very well be wrong, but I believe that this is Stonecutters Island at 0:42. Check out www.google.com/maps/@22.3221526,114.1451025,3826m/data=!3m1!1e3 for the similarity of the vegetation area and the former coastline (today's large container port to the west did not exist yet back then).
One of my big regrets throughout all the travel I've done, is that I never traveled to Hong Kong when Kai Tak was open. Great video. I can't wait until I travel to Asia again.. only two more months.
cool vid! I always wanted to go to Kai Tak instead of Chek Lap Kok but unfortunatley, it's closed. I think it's being moved or something.I didn't know that the A300 is noisy.
I did this landing also in 1992 British Airways and I had a HUGE Canon 8mm tape camcorder and could not get the footage also did this on a night landing

Do you think kai tak is scary? People said kai tak is one of the most dangerous airport in the world
Kai Tak was scary back in the days. So scary in fact that they built the new airport off the coast 😄
@@berglandvideo is this China Airlines in former livery
Don't worry. You didn't really miss a lot. We had no Internet at the time, no affordable mobile phones and no digital cameras yet... :)
What is the route the time you recorded the landing? Is it from Taipei to Hong Kong or from shanghai?
It actually was from Kuala Lumpur or Karachi, I believe.
Oh wow! Thanks for this video. It brings back memories. I remember I could see people hanging their laundry to dry on the rooftop of their apartments.
Hello tokusil, I don't remember the aircraft type. But it was a China airlines flight.
China Airlines is more exact ==> 中華航空 。。。。and looks like this was a flight from BKK to TPE via HKG
Is it me or did that opening announcement sound like it was part cantonese, part mandarin? lol
its china airlines. of course they do, they couldnt make your flight enjoyable lol
@ironcam but times weren t so bad..they have gotten worse since then.
Properly speaking, it should be 中華航空 but never be as 中华航空, please understand.
Thanks!
:) was this taken by a very old camcorder?
This was a China Airlines A300B4-200 in it's old colors in 1992 (Airliners . net)

Frankly, I don't remember anymore... as others have noted, most probably an A300 or similar!
0:42 is that construction for the new airport

I have not flew to the old or the new airport. Thanks for uploading just want to see what it was like to land at Kai Tak. I went to Hong Kong in 1996.

WOW nice video. Its like being in the plane. I wasnt born yet at this time lol
They really play that music in the airplane?
They certainly did back then! 😅
Wow! What a classic vid! Was this A300B4 in the old colors when you rode on it?
I've done this landing twice, on Cathay Pacific, & at night too! It was pretty cool.
It seems as if no one felt like they were moving at that speed.

Very Clear PA! I really like this video! Thanks for uploading!!!
What a nice piece of vintage aviation history!
I did this landing also in 1992 British Airways and I had a HUGE Canon 8mm tape camcorder and could not get the footage also did this on a night landing
