Is this the Bmw 218i sport coupe 2018?
Its not a diesel thank you!!! Everyone knows bmw diesel engines are garbage.
This car is finally affordable now in 2020. So watching the review again as I am planning on getting one soon :D Thanks for the awesome review matt!
Yeah man ahaha, can see m235i on auto trader for about 17.5k with 35k miles on
yeah looking at one now but man, that petrol engine is shite 37mpg is the best i have found whilst the diesel can easily get to 50mpg.
@@Galacticmaster yeah I really wanted an m235i but real world people are getting like 27mpg. I settled on a 225d in the end. Only a second slower to 60 but does over 50% more mpg real world
Get m240i instead, 300 quid cheaper tax. I got one about a year ago on PCP
same here, going for the petrol 218i though as I live in central london
3:24 I've never seen a manual seat with that much adjustability!
No sure of the regular seat, but sport seats in BMW have quite a lot of adjustment options.
Apart from what Mat shows you can also move them back and forward (obviously), adjust side bolsters (air pumped) and thigh support, too bad that lumbar support is an option....
Cheers
Jarek Strzelczyk Fair enough, I just thought by the time they have put all those levers for different adjustments they might as well put electric seats in. The thigh support is such a great idea also, wish other manufactures did something like that
Agree on thigh support, it should be more common.
As for electric seats, if it is a 4/5 door car, when you think about it, they have very little sense, since once you set your ideal seating position they just stay in that way all the time and all the electric motors just add unnecessary weigh.
Still, I would love to have them, although only with memory. :)
My old E39 5 series has the same amount in the driver's seat and that's BMW in 1996.
BMW seats adjust 4 ways - forwards/backwards, up/down, back tilt, and base tilt, and of course have thigh support and electric seats bolsters as well. The downside on the 1 and 2 series (possibly, others, don't know) is the adjustment is made difficult by the controls being very close to the door and, in particular, having use a combination of legs and bum to 'shuffle' the seat for upwards/downwards. Having experienced the faff in my F20 I optioned the electric seats (which also come with memory) on the F22, and don't regret it for a second. When combined with lumbar support, you can tweak the seating position at a touch of a button to suit your drive e.g. cruising. Don't give a stuff about some additional weight in a small car that pack 500nm!
Well... if kids complain about sitting in the back, just tell them to shut up...xD
That's what I say every time someone asks me why I am a die-hard fan of coupés :D
I wouldn’t even let kids inside this car
Lolll
or go buy skoda
Because of Mat, I've gotten to the point now that I watch reviews of cars I don't even like
WORD
@@XQCentral peirod.
Branden Johnson he would be a great salesman. He could sell me any car I reckon.
But this is a great car
Sean is indeed, 2 series is my favourite bmw model
Last of the real BMWs. Six cylinder, rear drive, compact form.
Yeah, the new 3 would be branded a 5er ten years ago.
+ manual transmission option.
u forgot the m2cs
I'm in love with this car, such a perfect balance of sport and practicality. And it's also beautiful.
Matt should be the lead presenter in Top Gear. Id watch that anyday lol

4:58 Driving with bonnet open, like a boss!
This car is a beast. Great review Mat as usual
Thank you BMW to have kept the traditional analogy speedometer in 2016. virtual cockpit looks like a video game.
You do realise Audi's Virtual Cockpit is optional? The standard model comes with bog standard dials.
sorry are you saying that like its a bad thing😂😂😂
+Tarun Pemmaraju the higher spec technology packages will have it a standard equipment.
nakul singh pretty much the same as Audi then
+Fergus Barratt it depends upon the tastes. I like the traditional look. spinning needless, needle sweep. give more mechanical feel out of the car. cars like Porsche and Ferraris have those...
Best car reviewer on RUclips by far. Keep up the great work Matt!
This is one of my favourite coupes, I'd definitely buy one if I could have the choice between this and the normal 1 series, I would buy this!
Happy to see you review more enthousiast cars, Mat!
Following on from my previous comment. Running costs - Tax £227.00 per year, Insurance for me £460.00 Fully comp, full NCB protected (I'm in my early 40's) Economy - it has 4 driving modes - ECO - best used in town or heavy traffic, Comfort for normal driving - it's fast in this mode though you can pretty much see off most cars performance wise , Sport - mental in this mode, Sport + even more mental - too much for every day driving almost too fast. The auto gearbox is a dream though in both sport modes.
Nice vid. Your camera angles are unique and refreshing. Love the intros. Now waiting for 4 series!
Thanks Usama - we force our camera guys into horrible positions for those shots :D
4:14 is the bonnet open lol?
Only on the left side :D
+Kossak it is because he doesnt know how to close it,you have to let it fall from quite a distance so that it closes,if you just push it it wont close properly(like in this case)
That's how you close the bonnet on pretty much all modern cars actually :)
+Kossak not on the w212
half open
just found Mat this evening - energetic, informative and adorable. a missed opportunity for top gear. it can only mean something better will come along for him.
Tope gear presented by Mat, Doug DeMuro and the Straight Pipes is basically my dream car tv show.
finally a proper review. thanks
love watching your reviews!! GREAT JOB :D
31mpg is pretty impressive when you consider the performance :)
00:56 Matt's top tip " if your kids are cimplaining on back seat , just tell them to shut up" 😂😂😂
Just bought this M Sport 218i, I am in love
Favorite review page on YT. Cheers from US bruv @carwow
I own a M235I exactly like this in black with the red coral interior. The performance is amazing for the money, the auto is slightly faster than the manual in 0-62 times being 4.8 rather than 5.0 with the manual, basically it's hardly much slower than a full blown M2 at a more realistic and affordable price. I own an automatic, first automatic I've ever had and surprised myself how I prefer it over manual gearbox. My car has paddle shifts as well, I think their standard. The car is more expensive than the 1 series, but looks so much more stylish and is worth the extra money IMO. Minus points the door bins are useless, the rear seats are tight - but hey it's a coupe so I expect that, like in the review the manual seat adjustment is so complicated, I thought it was just me.
Great review. Worth reminding that M240i will replace M235i very soon, so I'd wait for that - that way you could order a more powerful car or get a bigger discount on a used m235i.
Its a great car, practical enough for most people, perfect size for city use yet is not scary to drive on motorways (like most superminis). Handling and performance are just amazing. I don't understand why there aren't more of these on UK roads.
I know what you mean, I've only seen 2 of these in my city.
Mat...I have to say that your reviews are the best. keep on man dont stop!!
Cheers Anabel!
You wont believe me I bought an Audi Q3 watching your review....
You can fit people in the back of this comfortably (relative to it's class)? Dafuq??? NO way!!! Props for BMW to making their coupes practical (as practical as you can be in this class).
When are you going to review the Mazda CX-5? Been waiting for ages.
Best car reviewer on RUclips!
Excellent review - very fair and giving all the aspects of the car both positive and negative - thinking we might give this model a try
I love Matt's sense of humour! It's spot on! And very funny!! :-D
0:55 TOP Parenting Tip From Matt! The World Would Be Such A Better Place If Parents Subscribed To This.
Notable how the smart reviewer conveyed praise, whilst ensuring with his words and attitude the viewer understand his lack of enthusiasm for what he was praising (and it's not a regular 2 Series but a 235) 👍🏻.
The rear wheel drive does get stuck in the snow a lot
3:39-open hood =)
I am a newbie driver and drove 220i last week, I can't find anything better than that.
I love your review Mat, Im curious to find your review on BMW 2 series Active Tourer 225xe hybrid. Sounds quite economical and practical.
Matt!!! 140i, 240i, 340i and 440i please! How have you not as yet!?
Was wanting the 4 door review
Can Mat please do a review on the MX5??
Hey Mat! Could you please do a review on the new Tesla model S (facelift)?
4:19 left side of the bonnet not closed
Just asking...Between BMW 218i Coupe VS Subaru BRZ at almost the same price, what would you go for? (Will be my daily) i do prefer maintainance cost which will be better and more cheaper to maintain, for fuel economy and performance im not into it much...Just asking you guys what would u choose?
more reviews like that!
Why isn’t the front bumper perfectly aligned to the hood?
What's the price of the car as tested?
Hey Mat can you do a review on the M2?
We need u right next to jeremy clarkson ! U deserve to be in the grand tour series !
i dont remember where i heard the music which start in the middle of vid. i think in game.
Matt, will you be doing a review of the new MX-5?
Love these reviews! It's legit
Legit - we'll take that! Thanks Zain
surprisingly decent rear seats
Hi Matt, any chance you could review the 4 series?
Best reviewer ever
Mat reminds me of Ray Cokes from the good old Mtv!!
Cant wait for the M140i/M240i
BMW are known for their high servicing costs at least here in Australia. Apart from the BMW 1 can someone suggest a similar car that would be less extravigant? Note I currently drive an old Mazda 6 which is also has good handling (not as good as a BMW) and with a smaller engine lacks the power of this 2. Thanks
Mat, I'd love to see a Ford Mustang review from you, preferably the V8. Thanks! Keep up the good work!
We've done one. It goes live in the next week or so - and it's the V8. None of this Ecoboost malarkey…
carwow
I love you guys! Everytime I think of a car I want to see a review of, you guys are one step ahead. It's happened at least 3 times now. Thank you and best of luck with Carwow!
Thank you so much Matt cos it is as great as always. But did anybody notice that the hood was not completely closed at the front left hand side @ 3:39 ?
"and the Ford Mustang." Wow that really caught my attention at the end
A more in depth review of the handling would have been good. That's the only reason I came to check this review out. Is there any feel in the steering in what's going on in the road or is it as numb as most electric power steering cars?
My dream car is an x5 but all these other cars you are reviewing is changing my thought a bit, in a good way. I like your reviews and I have seen you review the x5 on carbuyer
Ive been in a x5 25d the interior is amazing people told me the bmw interior is cheap and all but no its looks like a real luxury suv especially with the black color
3:38 All through the road test, the bonnet (hood) is partially open.
Isn't the M235i with xDrive not available in the UK? It's only available in other countries.
yeah because theres no space fo xDrive in the right hand drive configuration
Boy I'm going to get this car someday
Matt looks really good in this video
How is this a 2018 model? 2018 has the 240i, not the 235i?
People still have trouble fitting media screens into cars without the screens looking like they are duck taped on top because they forgot about them.
What did you do to the bonnet during the driving portion? Did the the camera man not notice that it sat crooked? It looks like you jammed something under the left corner and slammed it shut.
This is a good channel

3:39, the bonnet is still open on the right side :)
you didn't close the bonnet completely at the passenger side ..
Paused the video at 3:39 - is there something wrong with the front of the car? what kind of shut line is that? was the bonnet latch slightly open or something? look at the bonnet just above the headlamp cluster then trace the shut line across the front of the car - or worse, over the front left hand wing.
m2 or m235i drive w/ sunroof?
5:24 love this laugh 😂
How much wind whistle? At what speed? And compared to what? Thanks.
Don't mention MPG if they are incorrect AND you know that.
Has the 2 series engine bay caught fire yet?
You forgot to close the bonnet properly :D
I'm thinking matt here isn't really 5'11. I'm 5'9 and I'm hitting my head on the back the same way, couldn't imagine being 2 inches taller back there lol
Just found out the 230i comes in manual. If I had the cash I’d buy one at the drop of a hat
i have one and for me its the perfect first fast car
It is a luxury GT sports car. It is not a hardcore race car which means it is suitable for more people.
Fast cars sound great until you have to live with them.
I am not sure which colour is this model that you used. Is it Mineralgrau? or black?
This isn't a 2017 model so why put that in the title?
I don't think you closed the hood properly after looking at the engine...
I've been getting 21mpg from my manual M235i
Are these all wheel drive. I just got one on monday
3:30 a non-issue if you're in "wrong hand drive" ironically ;)
The bonnets popped up on the right hand side 😂
The gap in the left side of bonnet is huge, like 2cm or so....whats going on? (it is not visible during all the driving part, but only some). Perhaps the bonnet doesnt close properly all the time?
Hi! Does anyone know how to open the trunk from the inside of the car?
lol i think that virtual cockpit is awesome so futurastic and so nice and special analogy speedometer is in all cars... we live in 2016 look's like audi is more in front of bmw to me.
Yup! Will be interesting to see what BMW does with the next-gen iDrive system
Review the M2 please.
Also is the M235i available with AWD too?
There is a 4x4 M235i Xdrive, but not in the UK.
would a 218i m sport be better than 118i m sport looks wise ?
I presently drive a e92 3 series coupe but the next car I will buy is 4 series and not this 2 series. I tried 2 series and it just doesn't feel as planted to road as 4 series.
excellent presenter
the reviews are funny aswell and it's entertaining
