I head out in the Black Label Hilleberg Soulo Tent for an icy wild camp in sub-zero temperatures. Some very cold and still air gave excellent mountain views and this was my first time in a brilliant, four season tent.
A superb winter adventure in the Black Label Soulo, testing my winter sleep setup and enjoying some festive beers along the way !

Congrats on getting a BL. I could tell you were envious of Andy's a few episodes ago. It is such a beauty of a tent. The setting of your video could not have been better. One of the many things I love about Winter is...no ticks, flies or mosquitoes!

Another belter Chris and a great camp indeed at one of your favourite haunts and tbh at this time of the year,it's a totally different animal but those views and the night sky would of been stunning to the naked eye and a great escape of solitude. Another great video, the route you went up is my favorite way up, will hopefully doing my first camp up there in early January, Have camped on local hill that is only 27 mtrs lower last winter and that was epic,deffo getting the down pants and probably booties to, keep the videos coming Chris

Very nice video I enjoyed that watching in my Sunday bed:) I particularly liked the music sad and reflective very festive. I had that tent it was superb . I’ve now had the Niak for a few years and its the longest i’ve had a hilleberg. I’ve recently got a western mountaineering bag only 3 season so I’m waiting for spring to do a bit of wild camping! That’s what it’s all about Chris. Nice chilled out camp in the peace and quiet. Thanks for the shout out, I always use my Ocoopa both as a Powerbank to top my phone up and as a hand/foot warmer. I had led Christmas lights plugged in it on this weeks camp! great versatile bit of kit. Those down pants are ace too. ATB mate 👍

I love these types of camp. Just you on your own and having a chill. Always windy when I'm up there but I'd rather have frost and ice than wind! I use the asda curry and microwave rice usually and does me fine and weights not that much really plus I always bring a rubbish bag. Microfiber cloth is best really as dries so quickly

Hats off to you. It’s been -10 in Glasgow this week and the temperature in my house in the morning was down to 12 degrees. That felt cold to me so I just can’t imagine what it’s like out in the elements.

Nice 1 Chris . As a long time Hilleberg AKTO owner (15 years and still performing as well as it did on day one) if i was gonna get another , it'd be the SOULO 'BL' in red - Go big or go home i say . Best of luck with it mate , i'm sure it'll give you many years of happy wild camping .

Cheers Neil, the old Hille's get their fair amount of stick - but usually from those who don't know or appreciate their quality - yes there are cheaper tents out there which are great, but personally - taken into consideration with their warranty, I find these are the finest tents around. ATB and have a great Christmas too pal - look after yourself.
Stunning tent. I love my red label but if I can ever justify the upgrade I would in a heart beat.

Jealous...but in a good way. I managed to buy a Staika a few months back (ex-demo from those lovely guys at Nordic Outdoor) ready for this winter but I had an accident a few weeks back & needed knee surgery. So until next winter, I shall live through your winter videos on here.

Get yourself up the Cairngorms, coldest i camped was minus 17c ambient temperature up Glen Feshie, think it dropped to minus 23c last week? you sleep warmer in a good bag, proper winter mat and only wearing your boxers, was up there twice last week in the snow, only posted on instagram tho. great video and Back oot Andy is a great laugh. atb Mark.

Looking for some down pants for camp over Xmas period, how did the naturehike ones perform and did you sleep in them. You mentioned selling couple tents to fund the hilleberg, just wondering which went...surely not the lite 1. Great video, makes me even more eager to get out

Shame about the zip on the Fjallraven No8 ? Anorak, pretty expensive kit,I thought the same about my Fjallraven trousers the quality of them wasn't as good as I thought it might be,maybe a purchased a rogue pair!
How did you find the NatureHike overtrousers? Did they live upto your expectations ?
Shame about the 'wasters' who left their litter behind them M8 but good of you to take it off the hill.

Gutted about the Anorak - it's over 3 years old, but I expect something at this price point to last - I will be making a standalone video to update on this - as Fjallraven can not repair for free and big delay in sending away........

They're great - pretty cheap too and work well - hopefully they will last okay, but I'm sure they will!

The Fjällräven garment has a lifetime waranty. You can have it fixed or replaced for no kost.
Sadly not the case. The zip has broken and Fjällraven will only repair at my cost as its outside their warranty period.
Have you had to silicone/seal the bottom of the vent zip? You can see the gap/hole at the bottom of the zip where water will ingress into the tent.
That will only happen if the door is pitched into the wind and the wind is strong enough to blow water vertically back up the fly sheet. So hardly ever. I do it for belt and braces though
Loving the videos but wish u could provide info on where u are camping etc as I'm a beginner and looking for locations, where would u recommend for a beginner.
Thanks for watching. I don't actively name locations like many others, because it likely places undue pressure one one particular spot - it's not really wild camping etiquette to give away locations. Best advice I can give is to do exactly what I did when I first started, hike and recce spots and you will find some top locations yourself and find that much more rewarding. I also check Google maps and use OS maps and look online. I've spent many years hiking and just checking out potential spots. I'm also working with Camp Wild at the moment, who have "wild spaces" which are the closest you can get to 'proper' wild camping - it's a great way to start off as the experience will be pretty much the same. Have a nose on their website and see what you think, or just get hiking and scouting and you will soon find some spots. Good luck 🏕️👍
I'm a bit surpised despite the fact that you don't have many trees where you hike, that Brit adventurers such as yourself never seem to set up a tarp for a cooking area. I wonder if it is the preponderance of winds that can blow up at any time? I like to hike with a tent and a hammock. The hammock is great for sitting in and eating and of course where I am in the South East of the USA - there are bears, so eating inside one's tent is considered poor practice by some, though I don't worry much about it at the same time. I love that stark scenery and wide open vistas that you get to enjoy so often.
Exactly that reason - winds 😂 plus usually a lack of place to erect one unless woodland camping. Don't really need to on this tent. Atb, Chris
