    Morning Todd. Another therapeutic masterclass. Love that little chopping board on the frying pan. Any idea where I could pick one up the same? Cheers.

    • @GoingSoloOutdoors
      @GoingSoloOutdoors  13 дней назад

      Hey Paul! It’s the chopping board that comes with the old Stanley stainless steel frying pan set 👍. It just happens to nest perfectly in a lot of the skillets I own. I don’t think I’d recommend using it as a lid though. When it’s not windy, I’ve used it many times and it’s worked well however, with the slight breeze some of the flames were starting to ride up the edge of the pan and beginning to melt it a little little bit 😅

    Beautiful camera work and editing as usual, some of the shots have the camera so far away from you I can't imagine it's too much fun running back to the camera to collect it. Drone shots look amazing too. Big fan of the style of documenting the full hike, camp and cooking, really makes me want to get out and do the same. The red Nallo at the end really demonstrated how stealthy your Soulo is in this environment. Have you considered documenting a multi-day hike? I've been considering doing one of Scotland's Great Trails though it'll be later in the year once it gets a bit warmer!

    • @GoingSoloOutdoors
      @GoingSoloOutdoors  Год назад +2

      Yeah running back for the camera can be a bit of a chore sometimes but it’s worth it for the final product! Glad you like the format of the videos. I’ve always tried to capture the full experience. 🤣 Sometimes even the boring parts liking packing up. I really like the look of red tents in photos but as you can see from my Hillebergs I definitely gravitate towards the sand color. I just think it blends in with the environment so nicely! I would absolutely LOVE doing more multiday trips but since having kids I just haven’t really had the opportunity anymore. That being said. At some point in the next couple years I am planning to hike the coast to coast! I would also love to do the Cape Wrath trail but that would require a bit more time which I don’t think I’d have.

    ‘Just a combination of a bunch of really nice things’. An apt description of both Italian cuisine, and this vid. A really appealing spot - I don’t get to the hills often but I too like the idea of being half way up, having views down into the valleys but also up to staggeringly massive lumps of rock. Gives a great sense of perspective. Thanks for sharing. Rich 👍 (PS seems we agree on bright red tents 🤢)

I hope I didn’t give the impression I’m hating on red tents too much 🤣. I think they can look nice in pictures. They’re just not necessarily for me. I like to blend in. Especially when outdoors. Earth tones are my happy place 😀. ATB buddy. Thanks for the comments!

    I watch allot of wild camping videos and follow allot of people but your channel and your videos are just fantastic! Unique and very well filmed. Especially love the way you cook proper food which is very rare would love to see you do some tutorials on best way to carry meat or what you could eat and how to store when doing multi day hikes.

    • @GoingSoloOutdoors
      @GoingSoloOutdoors  6 месяцев назад

      Thank you! I really enjoy cooking and I always find it a fun challenge to make the same dishes I would make at home with my smaller camping equipment. Normally when I carry meat I will just freeze it and let it thaw out during my trip. In the summers I will also typically add a small frozen bottle of water to my food bag to help keep things cold for longer. Multi day trips definitely can be a little more difficult (depending on the season) and either you have to select food that won’t go bad or just bring dehydrated meals. That’s a great idea for a video though. Maybe I’ll talk a little more about how I pack my food in future videos. Really appreciate you taking the time to comment. ATB

    Just found your channel this week. My first exposure to the “Lake District” and Hilleberg gear! Love the drone work, cooking, and general feel. Have watched some foul weather videos as well. I backpack exclusively in the Pacific Northwest, section hiking the PCT during the summers. Hiking the coast range and Oregon Coast in the winters. Am thinking about getting a Hilleberg shelter for 4 season camping here..what do you recommend for very wet winter overnighting?

    • @GoingSoloOutdoors
      @GoingSoloOutdoors  2 месяца назад +1

      Welcome to the channel. The Hilleberg US offices are actually located in Redmond Washington 👍. Honestly any of the RL Hillebergs would be great for winters in the Pacific Northwest. It really just depends on how much space you are looking for and if you would like a freestanding or non freestanding tent. In the winter I typically prefer the extra space of a two man tent. The Nallo and Nammatj or both light and spacious non freestanding options. For freestanding I would potentially go with the Unna, Soulo or Allak. All completely freestanding and fantastic 👍. You honestly can’t go wrong with any Hilleberg you choose. They are all handmade and the quality in my option is the best you can buy. They are not cheap but if you ever decide to sell, you can pretty much get your money back because they are always in high demand especially across the pond 👍. Hope that helps. Really appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment. All the best.

    • @GoingSoloOutdoors
      @GoingSoloOutdoors  11 месяцев назад

      Yeah the pass particularly in the villages is the worst for me, with those high stone walls on both sides of the road. I don’t mind when it opens up because at least you can see when other cars are coming and you’re not forced to reverse on a windy small road. Worth the drive though to access such a beautiful part of the lakes! I thought I got enough shots of them. I definitely enjoyed the view of them from the tent! Thanks for watching!

    "Home Sweet Home" aka 5-Star Luxury accommodations out in the boonies. You can count on your Soulo to provide you with shelter under the most extreme weather.
    Don't go looking for water at night.
    I like that small insulated sit pad, to keep you off the cold/wet ground while enjoying your meal.
    Please, make & model of your Sleeping Bag? It's sure no fun when you're cold at night & inside a sleeping bag that's not built/designed for the cold temperatures your in.

      The Thermarest Z seat is a nice super light bit of kit to keep your bum warm and dry! I use the Marmot Sawtooth 15. It is usually plenty warm enough (in fact it’s the same bag I used on the snow camp at -12°C ) but I do believe it’s age is starting to show. Its in need of a wash and I need to try the old tennis balls in the dryer trick to try to bring it back to life a bit. But I do believe I am also due for a new bag soon. To answer your last question. I always carry a lighter, matches and a ferro rod with me. When lighting my candle lantern I just grabbed the matches first and didn’t bother to dig back in my bag to grab the lighter. Appreciate the comments as always. ATB

      @@GoingSoloOutdoors You definitely did right by yourself by upgrading your shelter to a Hilleberg.
      I did an internet search on your Marmot Sawtooth 15 & wasn't impressed. Just my opinion - but I'm thinking you're short changing yourself with your sleeping bag. Look at yourself & consider a real sleeping bag instead of cheaping out on what you have.
      Western Mountaineering or Feathered Friends are the brand of sleeping bag you should consider as a companion to your Hilleberg Shelter - again, just my opinion.
      Hilleberg Enan, Western Mountaineering Antelope with Gore Windstopper outer fabric, & the Thermarest XTherm comprise my shelter/sleep system.
      Keeping my feet warm inside a sleeping bag is where I've had problems until I discovered Goosefeet Down booties with 100% overfill. Now my tootsies stay warm all night.
      Warm Regards from Reno, Nevada U.S.A.

      @@azclaimjumper Given all the gear I have, I think that’s the first time I’ve ever been accused of cheaping out on something 🤣. When I referred to it being a cold night, I wasn’t talking about me not being warm in the sleeping bag, I was more so referring to my feet being chilly. Making a hot water bottle fixed that though. Eventually I will definitely get a new bag but this bag has served me well for years and kept me very comfortable far below it’s temperature rating (I also rarely get the chance to camp below 15°F) . So if it’s taken 7 years for it to start loosing some of that loft I’d say that it was a pretty damn good purchase. I will try cleaning and re-lofting the bag which is usually a pretty easy way to rejuvenate a sleeping bag. But when it does come time to purchase a new bag, I’m having a custom one built that I’ve had my eye on for some time now. I hear the down booties are great though! I’ve definitely looked into getting some as they are relatively inexpensive, but I’ve never been able to force myself to pull the trigger on them. I’ve always just used a hot water bottle because it works incredibly well to keep the feet toasty. I should’ve made one before bed on this camp because it was already below zero but I just figured I’d be fine. Thanks for the chat, I always enjoy the gear talk!!ATB

    Great video thank you! Subscribed! Im really in between Soulo BL and Nammatj 2. Do you have any recommendations? I like the space in Nammatj but Soulo just seems stronger and more stable in winds! Am I wrong? I’ll be using it only for me, at high up summit levels and for winter mountaineering. But I also do like the space, that’s why I’m more biased towards Nammatj, I was only worried abouts it’s stability (inner flapping, noise etc.) Any advices?

    • @GoingSoloOutdoors
      @GoingSoloOutdoors  Год назад +1

      In the winter when you will be spending more time in the tent, having the extra space in the Nammatj is really nice. I have found the Nammatj to be very stable when pitched correctly into the wind. Both tents will flap also in the wind so I wouldn’t let that be a deciding factor. The only benefit I can see the BL Soulo having is if there is a change in wind direction or if you are in a difficult place to pitch a tent that is not freestanding. Both are fantastic tents though so you really can’t make a bad choice 👍. Thanks for watching!
