- In this weeks video I’m back in the Lake District to bag a few more Wainwrights and additional summits and also Wildcamp on the Summit of Nethermost Pike in the Helvellyn Range.
Summits Tagged:
⛰️ Helvellyn (950m)
⛰️ Nethermost Pike (891m)
⛰️ High Crag (884m)
⛰️ Dollywaggon Pike (859m)
⛰️ Seat Sandal (737m)
⛰️ Dunmail Raise (238m)
I was joined by a mate Danny on this hike and was nice to have some company. As I had company I didn’t film as much as I would normally as it was nice to just chat and be present. The main reason I hike and camp is because it makes me feel alive and I’m at my happiest so enjoying the moment is my number one priority and being able to record and capture my memories is always secondary.
I’ll be getting back to my routes and planning some solo day hikes and also hikes with camps too so if that’s what you enjoy the most stick around. My solo hikes are really important to me and can’t wait to get back out there and in particular my long distance hikes. Roll on April/May to start those!
As always, thanks for watching the videos and do leave a comment I’d love to hear from you.

Loving the videos mate
Cheers Chris much appreciated
Belting video this mate, enjoyed watching it. New sub 👍🏼
Thanks so much and glad to have you on board. I’ve had a little break from everything but back now so will get back out very soon and keep the vids coming again.
Excellent video again, thanks 👍👍
Thanks for your support 🫶🏼
Awesome film mate. Looking forward to the next one!
Thanks Euan glad you enjoyed it 🫶🏼
Amazing video top bloke.😊
Aah thank you 🙌🏼
well, Kris, that was a really fun camp . you wanted some pegs that wouldn't come loose, I rekon you found them😂. well, my friend , you have a great one and I will see you on the next adventure. I'm going to do some training, I picked up a door gunner harness for the door gunner on a Blackhawk helicopter and modified it to do some climbing and repelling. hopefully I won't fall😂😂😂.
Dwayne
Haha I did and trust me…when these are in…they’re in 😂. Do love them but definitely need to add some cord to them so I can actually get them out again.
That sounds interesting I can’t even imagine how you’re doing that or what you’re doing with it 😂be careful haha
Great hike 👍
Thank you it’s a cracking route
looked like a windy cold one there mate - keep bashin' in the vids - keep it up from Vietnam !
Haha it was. Glad I took both down jackets but nice and warm when wrapped up in the tent. Thanks as ever Bilbo
Another great wee video. I worked on an archaeological dig a few years back. The RAF used to use our trench as a landmark, and would fly over at least once a week. We would wave to them, and they would tip their wings, in order to wave back.
Aww love that! Thats ace isn’t it. They’re so loud though when so low.
@@krisgleave They definitely are. We could hear them, before we could see them, that's for sure.
@AScottishOdyssey Same in the lakes you often hear them but hard to spot at times
@@krisgleave They certainly do go at a fair pace.
Another Brilliant video Kris ! good to see you using the hydrapak they are great :D Loved the inner pockets on Danny's tent that was brilliant design. Onto the next ! All the best !
Cheers bud. Only bought it after seeing it on your video and love it. Straps on top of the atom packs perfectly too without attachments on the Y Strap you’ll be glad to know for yours too.
The inner pockets on that tent were the same on the head AND foot end. Think there were 4 on each side. Pockets for days. Seems like a good solid tent.
Let’s get that camp sorted soon 🤙🏼
@krisgleave I strapped mine up like you did last week absolutely brilliant you can even runt he stap under the carry handle !
@BooniesPeaks Ooh I didn’t even think of that. I’ll try that next time too. Really good addition to my kit. Now stop showing more gear I might want to buy or I’m going to be skint 😂😂
Looks a good camp up there matey
Cheers Chris. It’s a great spot as a flat summit and awesome views well worth a visit.
Extraordinary scenes in the morning and a good endorsement for those pegs.
Thanks for that. Honestly they’re amazing but just so hard to get hold of. I still want 2 more so hopefully nobody else tries buying 😂
@@krisgleave which path is easier this one or the one you took up to brown cove crags to helvelyn?
@DJVOutdoors This path in my opinion is easier plus you have a good water source half way up too.
Nice video. Love watching these while I'm sat at work with a distant look in my eyes dreaming of the mountains! I have some of those anchors but found them quite soft. They bend about very easily.
Haha love that. I miss the mountains too but so waiting on the weather to improve and this rain to pass so I can get back out.
I’m surprised they have bent as they’re solid. What caused them to bend? Surely if they bent that had to be solid ground which they’re not really intended for? Curious.
Nice vid Chris and left you a like too
Thanks so much and really does help 🤙🏼
Great film, I too have the same water filtration system and loving it👍
Thank you. It’s great isn’t it. I’ve always loved the befree and had it for years now but love the new hydrapack to go with it.
@@krisgleave we also have the same orc sleeping bag👍🏻. What’s size pack is your atom?
@biagiosadventures7204 It’s a good bag the OEX Leviathan I’ve had it for a couple of years now. The pack is the Mo50
@@krisgleave great thanks. Also noted we use the same Motorola GPS. Great minds think alike🤣
@biagiosadventures7204 They do indeed. I had the Zoleo for a while which is a great device I just hated the size of it so this is much better for me
Added bonus with those jets. Awesome
Awesome aren’t they! So loud though
Cheers Kris... i was hoping for a little snow to be honest..
Yeah nothing up there at the moment. The week after this we had a couple of days of snow but nothing since. Hope it returns soon
Haha happy cool video
Thank you 🙌🏼
Another great video Kris! With those ground anchors, do they work well in stoney ground and frozen ground or are thry mainly for soft ground? I also have one of those bladders, a great but of kit to have, especially as you say, to accompany the befree filter
They’re great the bags just wish I’d bought one soon but definitely use on every camp now. Do have an awesome 1L collapsible bottle too I normally use if I don’t need as much too. Thanks a Cnoc bottle.
I’d say loose ground is ideal but found was hard when I was there and went in fine as sharp and titanium. Rocky ground you’re better with thinner pegs as they go in easier.
Great video Kris I thoroughly enjoyed it. Those ground anchors look the business, what size are they?
Hoping to get out with the Abisko 2 on Wednesday night but it's giving it blowing mad in the Mourne mountains. I hope I don't end up like the last time I tried to pitch in those conditions 😊
They’re ace honestly. I’ve been speaking with the company and have some more now. For me the small are the best with size and weight but also really strong. I now have 9 small but also have 2 medium and 2 large. I intend to do a video talking about them soon. Won’t be doing strength tests or anything like that as they’re really good and it’s not needed. The Abisko 2 should be great in wind as long as you pitch head end into the wind
Cheers Kris, those ground anchors look the business for sure 👍🏼
I got out in the Abisko Lite 2 as planned and got it pitched quite easily considering that the conditions were terrible again. It's an impressive tent in the wind but leaked from every seam when it rained, it's been returned to Fjallraven and I'm waiting to hear from them.
@@ExploreAboveAndBelow aah really? What have they said? Mine has been fine but saying that I’ve often had condensation due to winter conditions so hard to tell but don’t think mine has ever leaked
I haven't had any word from them, it was returned to them by Trekitt who I bought it from. I was only in the tent when it started raining and immediately leaking so had to time to make condensation. I have a three day trip starting next Friday so hopefully it'll be sorted for then 🤞🏼
Great video, when was this exactly?? Im thinking of doing Helvellyn on Saturday and wondered what itcwas like up top
Thank you. This was a couple of weeks ago. Should be similar although not as cold at the moment.
Its cracking views from up there ive camped there a few times.ivr been using the seeker a few years there great.ive looked at thise titan anchor's for a few years what size did you use.as a fellow kuiu storm owner i think there a great tent and getting more popular the room you get is what makes it for me
Yeah it’s a pretty dull summit by itself but the views are awesome. Surprised it was my first time stepping foot on the summit too having been on helvellyn about 12 times.
The titan ground anchors are awesome. Mine are the small…I saw 4 come in stock and snapped them up. Medium and Large are obviously stronger but honestly they’re solid even the small ones. Fat stronger than just pegs and stack well and take up no space.
I never take my delta pegs as really don’t want to carry as bulky. Really hard to get hold of these though it’s taken me 18mths
@@krisgleave yea that's the only downside to the Delta's is there bulk
@craig3401 I literally never take them due to that where these stack so and titanium so light so no hassle taking
Nice vid Chris and left you a like too. If you want to lighten your Soulo a bit get Lucy Quinton to make you a vestibule only footprint, she does a cracking job and her prices are really reasonable . It will save you about 100gms too and please say i sent you :)
Aah brilliant thanks for thank much appreciated. I’ve actually spoken with Lucy recently about footprints. I’m on the lookout for a sewing machine as rather than buy a made footprint from her, I’m interested in buying her kit to make your own. Just trying to find a cheap machine but one which she recommends and I’ll see what I can come up with.
I know the hilleberg had a good base and the footprint isn’t essential so good idea to save some weight. Although…I’d have to think as do like to protect my tents just in case.
I always make footprints out of window film for other tents so look forward to making my own with her kits 🤙🏼
Nice one Chris that will be a good investment. Just for the record i get them made with a 20cm flap that you can tuck under your inner tent. I wouldn't worry about Hilleberg footprints in the slightest, i am on number 6 Hilleberg and never had even the tiniest of holes ATB@@krisgleave
@Olan... that’s great to know thank you. I’ll never sell this tent anyway so maybe I’ll look again just the vestibule. Let’s see how good my skills are with a machine when I get one 😂
#GleaveNoTrace 👌
Haha exactly! 😜
38:59 yer mates losing the will to live :)
😂 to be fair he really didn’t want to head up Seat Sandal next 😂
Hi kris. What were the filter bottles you have in this video?
Hi Dave….the main filters are the Katadyn BeFree filters. The one in the video is the Tactical 1 Litre but they also do the clear in 0.6L and 1L and I have both of those too and great. The Tactical is a little thicker material.
The 2L bag (also comes in various sizes) is the Hydrapack Seeker…just need to get the version where the top fits the Katadyn if you’re going for a similar setup.
@krisgleave thanks for your indepth reply. Love the videos keep them coming.
@davehopper7928 No problem at all Dave and thanks for your support.
Alright mate have you any links for that water bladder
If you read the comments below I’ve listed the model. I bought mine from Valley and Peak as cheapest place too. Just make sure you get the version that fits the Katadyn BeFree if you use that filter.
Here you go (2L Version). They do other sizes too.

@@krisgleave cheers man I just got one from Amazon I paid £25 with delivery 📦 haha I couldn’t hang on
@TrevsOutdoorsandWellbeing Haha love it. Did you go for the 2L version too? I really like mine and packs down so small when not in use.
@@krisgleave yeah it’s the same one 😂 I see your well into your gear me too nice video thanks 😊 for sharing can’t wait to use my new bladder
Next time take a piss on your anchors before removing them... softens the ground
😅 haha i had spare water too I didn’t even think to add that
Good save not going on your arse filling the water bottle 😉 and you have become an archaeologist now, digging those anchors out 😉😉😉
Haha I don’t know how I didn’t fall in 😂. Honestly those anchors! They’re amazing I’m really impressed but definitely need to add some guyline to the back of them to yank them out. One took me about 15 minutes to dig out 😂
