  • Join us on an epic winter adventure as we brave extreme snow and whiteout conditions to camp on the summit of Blencathra in the Lake District!
    From freezing temperatures to waist-deep snow, we battled the elements trusting my GPS whilst struggling to see but sheers grit and determination got use through it .
    With icicles forming on our the guylines of the tent and waking up to a mound of snow from spin drift in the tent it was certainly a challeng. The moments of complete whiteout were tough and proud of Kay for pushing her limits as she really struggled in the conditins.
    Don't miss out on the thrill-hit subscribe and join me for more unforgettable adventures! I try and release videos weekly on a Monday at 6pm but I am human so do miss a few here and there hope you dont mind.

    So, I normally wait to comment but I didn't wanna forget.
    I've got weather affected disorder. Just happened after I left the army. I've got so much experience and skill outside, I used to teach recruits. But I just couldn't get out for years after I left. I've since promised to walk lejog for my friend's son's foundation after he died, aged 12.
    It's been hard as fuck. I always shit myself at the thought of going to the shop in the rain, but I've slowly got going again, I'm even beginning to film myself (poorly) on my training hikes.
    I find it helps me accept the weather conditions as an opportunity to show other people how to deal with them.
    This year, I've got half a dozen trips planned.
    I hope I get a snowy fucker in one day, this video looked full on epic as fuck.
    Anyway, I think everyone suffers here and there. Don't worry, you're smashing it.

      Thanks for sharing Craig. I didn’t even know that was a think it must be really tough to deal with. However what you’re doing is epic and sounds like a great thing to commit to which will surely help too. Do film it too as it’s your memory forever then and something to look back on to see where you’ve come from and what you’ve achieved 🤙🏼

    I've only recently come across your channel. After being new to hiking, etc, I was looking for Snowden clips before I did it last month and felt amazing!
    Watching this video today, I've been in bed two days with flu. Wanted to say thanks for your honesty in regard to mental health. Totally get it, long covid anxiety had me for a bit. I walk/hike on Saturdays with a group from work as we are doing 3 peaks, but I've got the bug, and wild camping is next on my list! When I get out, I feel alive!
    So thanks for the videos you post! Keep going. Look forward to future posts

It would be nice to see the footage back to the the car for a big hug & kiss as I'm sure she had a little wobble of dizziness or claustrophobia which I suffer from. Thanks guys for really entertaining me for nearly a hour...cheers, Simon x.

    • @krisgleave

      What a lovely comment thank you and appreciate the feedback. Kay doesn’t like drops and things like that and struggled in the conditions as it can be quite disorientating when all you can see is white and you don’t know where you’re going so she did struggle with that. I was fine and easier when you can see your GPS watch so you know the layout and contours so I knew the ground ahead plus remembered it from the way up.
      For some reason they didn’t do too well on the channel but if you like the banter checkout our campervan adventure from last year. I have 4 videos from our 5 day trip around Wales it was awesome we had the best time. Lots of banter in that I think you might like it.

Yeah it’s tricky judging distance and even following my Garmin I fell away from the route quite a few times trying to traverse as I was losing elevation at the same time and took me a while to get back on the route I’d marked but I knew the ground was just a slope and no drop.
      Haha snow globe in the vestibule alright…could’ve built a snowman out of that 😂

    Great video them were some tough conditions man. I was up here the night after you completely different conditions. Didn’t get up there and pitch till after 11pm headed over after finishing work on the Sunday. I have the abisko lite 2 as for the saggy rear I tend to have the 2 corners pointing more away from rear a little out to the sides ( about 20 degrees) but yours seemed to be pointing quite sideways (maybe about 70-80 degrees) Also leave straps fully loosened so when pegging it out you can put plenty of tension on the straps too make it taught. Also the tension straps on pole ends need to be really pulled tight to bring the tent fabric right up to the bottom of poles/ fox feet( that the pole sits in ) hope this helps.

    • @krisgleave
      @krisgleave  4 месяца назад +1

      Cheers Steve and yes I remember you posting about that and going. Awesome work to head up so late. I know coming down the blue skies were out and the conditions had changed but was crazy that night and morning. Awesome though I loved it and one to remember.
      I’ll have to have a look online at how people have pitched as I didn’t use to have an issue with it but the last 2 it’s been a pain. I need to pitch it in the day close to where I live and just have a play around so when I’m in the shizzle on the mountain I’ve got the knack. Thanks for that.
      I couldn’t tell if my poles looked too wide too. I think I may be pulling too taut so it’s not as high as it should be which affects the back. Maybe I’m wrong I’ll have to see

      @@krisgleave I posted loads of pics on Lake District hiking and camping page if you search my name Stephen Roach you should see it and maybe get an idea of what mine looks like. What I get is that the tent needs to be tight long ways as it’s not freestanding and it’s a tunnel style so the more you angle the pegging out points away from the ends of the tent it’ll make it more taught. Uneven ground can make it tricky tho flat as possible is ideal

      @@krisgleave for me “acceptance” is the most important starting point in my own life and that includes my addiction and health. I saw you mention you’re for a heart scan next week. I’m 52 now and while up the mountain training in November 18 on my enduro bike unbeknown to me, I suffered a serious heart attack. Long story short I was rushed to hospital and had stents put in. This for me is when my life just stopped. I was told clearly by the cardiologist “moderation”. I couldn’t accept that and paid the price by pushing my recovery on my terms and not the experts. So make sure you get checked out and above all, don’t beat yourself up as much. If your head convinces you not to go out, that’s okay, try your best to accept the situation as it is. You proved it with an incredible friend and wife by your side that you got back on your feet and kept going. Well done mate.

      @gordonjervis770 Hi Gordon, it’s the Garmin 6X Pro which I have. Also, the mapping is by “Talkytoaster” if you google that. Garmin maps are useless as they are missing lots of information and don’t show contours. TalkyToaster offers a better mapping with national trails, contours, peaks and more on them. Massive difference and essentially. They’re about £14 I think.

    Fantastic conditions and well done to Kate. Re the mental health issues , are you on a low fat or vegan diet by any chance ??? The reason i ask is because there seems to be a war against saturated fat which is vital for hormone balance and low fat diets are detrimental to hormone balance in both men and women so plays havoc with emotions , energy, focus to mention just a few things. Same for vegan diets but i am sure lots of people will attack me for saying that but i dont give a shite if they do ;)

      @krisgleave  4 месяца назад

      Hi Olan, interesting information there but no, just on a normal diet. I do question some of my hormone levels though for sure and it’s something I’m actually looking into as tiredness and lots of different things a big factor at the moment the past year. Also having a heart monitor on for 24hrs next week for a check as always a low heart rate.

    • @Olan...
      @Olan... 4 месяца назад

      @krisgleave right to question that Chris with the amount of female hormones in the food chain and all the BS recommended diets. Plastics (BPAs) are massive hormone disruptors too and difficult to avoid and seed oils plus all the other additives, pesticeds and herbicides etc etc.....they want everyone on medications to ease the symptoms of us being poisoned instead of stopping poisoning us and as long as we keep saying yes to vaccines they will keep on making them because its a highly profitable business . What's wrong with prevention is the best cure .....Good luck with solving your issues but my guess it will be connected to " what's going in " and how it's going in 😉
