Thank you. I have followed your directions and I am very happy with how my zipper looks on a tweed skirt I am making. I now feel confident about zippers, whereas before, I used to dread it.
Ahhh, I hate putting in zippers. I always tried to avoid it when and where ever I could by using elastic in the waist but after having watched your video I want to give it another try. Thank you for the demonstration.
That was awesome! I've been teaching myself how to sew since late November, and thanks to this tutorial I've finally successfully put in a zipper. I'm so pleased - thank you!
I’m a novice and about to put in my first zipper in my first skirt. This is the tutorial I’ve been searching for. I totally understand the task at hand. I’ve been stalling but now I have the confidence to give it a go. Thanks! ❤️
Great camera work. Nice and close, good lighting, easy to see. And as usual, perfect instruction - remembering all the details that those who have no clue how to sew in a zipper could possibly need to know. What machine are you using here? Basting stitches look nice and long. Thanks.
Outstanding. I watched your entire video without sound. It was so well done, I'm confident anyone hearing impaired will learn on first attempt. Good work.
I have only been willing to work with stretch material because of my fear of zippers. This video is the BEST! I installed my first zipper today! I watched several other videos and yours was the ONLY one I understood. Thanks again. Zippers are now my friend!
Nadine Harrington yay! I'm so happy to hear this. Many people find them super intimidating but we can't living in elastic pants forever and once you do it, you wonder why they were so scary to begin with. Now you can conquer the world! :D
I used this technique to put a back center zipper into a dress, and it worked great. Thanks so much for the clear instructions. (The nail polish is great, too!)
I bought a beautiful dress on vacation thousands and thousands of miles away from home at a super chic and expensive boutique. It fit like a glove. Before walking to the register I grabbed the same dress off the rack and put the one I tried on in its place because I noticed some fraying at the bottom. Well….when I got it home and was ready to wear it the zipper wouldn’t zip up. I tried and tried until I got frustrated and took it off to inspect the zipper. It was completely broken! So in now have this $90 dress that I haven’t worn because in need to replace it. Can you do a video of how to replace a zipper? A LONG one? lol. Possibly on satin🤓 that would be awesome. You get to the point and are a great teacher! The best by far on RUclips ☺️
Omg, thank you. This video is awesome, both your clear instructions and excellent camera work. I am making my first ever garment and I effed up the zipper BAD. (Who the expletive writes those pattern instructions? They are literally the farthest thing from helpful!) I’m trying again using your method.
Thank you for this excellent easy to follow tutorial on putting in a zipper. The steps are explained and illustrated very well and makes it super easy to follow. A professional look is the end result. I have added this to my personal library of videos and I will be referring to it again and again.
Thank you so much ❤ I have a huge difficulty to fix a zip to my skirt. But now I know it clearly. Your technique is so clear and easy. Thanks a million ❤❤❤
Thankyou for a well spoken & easy to follow tutorial about the stress free of putting a zipper in. I rewatched & rewatched each step & …… ta da…. I have sewn a zipper in !!!!! I’m very happy sewer Thanks 😘😘😘😘😘😘😘
Thank you for this tutorial. I took textiles at school and I never got taught how to put in a zip. I'm making a skirt so it needs a zip so this is really useful and looks really simple :)
Awesome tutorial! Thanks so much for this. I couldn't find a tutorial where the two joining sides were already baste stitched together until I found this!!!
I wouldn't have put a zipper in my pillow cushion cover if I hadn't seen this video. Thank you! I remember in sewing class eons ago, we used a long piece of tape to use as a guide of where to sew around the zipper. Less to rip out.
This is so helpful & well made - thank you! I'm a total novice, so I apologize if this is an ignorant question. I totally get why that first basting stitch to hold the two pieces of fabric is necessary. Why do we need the orange basting stitch on the zipper prior to doing the final stitch?
Professor Pincushion, you are awesome !! Your instruction is very clear/helps a lot for installing a zipper which is the hard part that I have a hard time to install to a skirt or a slack. You have a beautiful hands/nails; I like your hand. Thanks you.
this method is a lot more meticulous and lengthy, but SO worth it for those pieces you want to wear, let's say, out into the light of day and not just at home! THANK YOU! this certainly takes a lot of the fear associated with these types of sewing maneuvers out of the equation...at least for me :)
zippers are one element that a lot of people find really intimidating but, once you do it, you'll be amazed at how simple it really is. You can do it! :)
Thanks for making it sound so easy! I needed an easy to understand tutorial so that I can finish my ankle length skirt that has a zipper on the side instead of the back. :)
That seems a whole step was jumped at 2:47, it went from pinning to suddenly the whole seam was sewn up? Not clear if the top part is unsewn altogether and is waiting to be sewn with a basting stitch or is already sewn with some type of stitch and basting is addiction - and whether the bottom part has been someone or not
a massive thank you, you just turned a *OMG what am I gonna do what do they want from me why didn't I chose an elastic waistband* to *confident it's gonna be all right* :)
+Professor Pincushion I wanted to show you pictures but it doesn't seem to work 😊 it turned great and thanks to you, it was so easy too! Everybody's impressed with my zipper 😀 thank you so much for your great tutorials and for the kind words, much appreciated😊 x
possible silly question. Buy why do the basting first(the orange thread) and then do a finishing stitch after? Couldn't you just do a finishing stitch in the proper color the first time around?
It just really secures zipper placement since it can still slip with the double sided tape or pins but, if you're feeling confident, you can totally skip this step.
The bane of my existence is zippers. I've tried so many techniques and can't seem to master the zipper. One technique had me use strips of painter tape to hold the zipper in place but that just didn't work well and the tape ended up not sticking well to the zipper. I hate the idea of having to baste the zipper multiple times but at this point, I'll try anything to get this zipper in correctly.
Thank you. I have followed your directions and I am very happy with how my zipper looks on a tweed skirt I am making. I now feel confident about zippers, whereas before, I used to dread it.
Excellent tutorial...you are truly the OG of sewing tutorials on YT.
after viewing many zipper videos, yours was the only one that made it look so simple! Thank you!
Ahhh, I hate putting in zippers. I always tried to avoid it when and where ever I could by using elastic in the waist but after having watched your video I want to give it another try. Thank you for the demonstration.
Thank you so much for showing me how to put a zeeper it was so difficult for me

Ahhh, finally an easy to understand tutorial on inserting a zipper. Yes, I have been intimidated - but I feel more confident now! Thank you
Thank you for this video! It is such a lifesaver. Every time I’m sewing a zipper onto a skirt I look up this video, watch it and pause it as I go.

Thanks for the kind words. I was using the Husqvarna Lily 530. I don't think they make that model anymore but all the Husqvarnas are good machines.
Outstanding. I watched your entire video without sound. It was so well done, I'm confident anyone hearing impaired will learn on first attempt. Good work.

Why were the 2nd basting stitches (orange) necessary? After the first set of basting couldn't those have been actual stitches?
I learnt a lot🎉

I cant tell which side of the fabric is the right side.. fabric needs a light pattern and dark thread to easily distinguish right side from wrong side
Awesome video!!!
Very helpful thank you
This really helped me, thank you!
Glad we were able to help! :)

hand basting the zipper in, is time consuming true, but it's a good way to hold it without worrying about pins. You can do it! :)
Thank you so much for this tutorial !!!
Harsha Thomas I'm so glad you found it helpful.
Super helpful, thank you so much
