I'm a guy who loves to sew, but mostly has covered ATV and motorcycle seats or made cushions for furniture I have built. I have been wary of any zippering.. Your video really helped me today sew a 35" zipper into a cover on a camper bed cushion. Thanks for the help!

Wow. I’ve been self taught sewing for about 13 years (my only sewing class was Home Econonics in 1991!). I always hate putting in zippers because they were tricky and always came out messy. I don’t know why I never looked for a tutorial before today, but this was very eye opening!! Thank you!!

For those of us who have been taught by a professional sewing teacher, we all let out a big gasp when you pulled out the painter's tape instead of the straight pins. When you can't find the tape will you be using glue?
I am being facetious but it's because it's a pet peeve of mine seeing people not utilizing the basic tools created for making great garments.
To be honest, I have used safety pins, paper clips, and bobby pins when I have run out of straight pins. Now, I will add painter's tape.
    Keep up the tutorials. :)

This is actually the BEST and easiest zipper instruction video I have EVER seen! Wendy makes it very simple! Perhaps it is your English that makes it difficult and not her instructions! I can see you don't write English very well and it is possible you do not understand it very well either. I don't mean to be harsh, but your critique seems very unfair.

I'm glad it was helpful. I don't think I can do a video that covers the things you asked for (filling a bobbin, etc.) because those instructions would be different for different machines. I've used a lot of different machines when I teach classes - and they all have their little quirks. Your best bet for specific instructions would be to find instruction manuals for the machines you have. You can find many online now - even for older machines. Good luck!

Thank you so much for explaining how to sew an invisible zipper into a project. I must admit how I've been a bit intimidated by the thought of sewing zippers onto a project in general. But, after watching your method here, I'm not as scared as I once was. I'll be using your advice to sew my very first zipper into a purse lining I'm making for a macrame'ed purse I've made. TY for posting this video.

I took sewing classes when I was little (6 to 8 years old) and now (I'm 24) I have gotten into cosplay. I make my own patterns or alter patterns and I know the basics, but for some reason, techniques like sewing zippers eludes me. Read the patterns and I swear they are not in English, or I have made my own pattern and therefore have no directions. I really appreciate your clear, concise and complete video. I will definitely use this technique.

Ingenius! thankyou- I have always had trouble getting my zips to look nice and neat like this. I just used the technique in this tutorial and it worked perfectly, though the skirt I was making was cotton velveteen and the masking tape pulled off a little of the fabric on the back which showed through slightly at the front - so just careful folks if you are using a fabric that has a pile like velvet!

You are a natural teacher, easy to follow. I wanted to add zippers to some pillow projects, thank you! Love that you used painter's tape! I appreciate that you show why using a 5/8" seam allowance makes sense when sewing in zippers; if too narrow, it would weaken the seam around the zipper. Are you using a Pfaff machine? If so, what model is it? I like the way the little black foot pushes the top along, without a walking foot.
