I thoroughly enjoyed The Last Faith. Weapons were badass, combat was tight, bosses were cool. It did have a few rough edges, but overall was a fantastic experience.
However, my biggest critique would definitely have to do with the story and lore. It just goes in too many directions, and doesn't have enough concrete evidence. We never get any mention of what Junas and Nova Elaris are, and how they slot into the fight between Laddak and Melenya. We never get any explanation about what Nyxaroth has to do with the story, or what powers magic in the setting. Frost and dark magic seems to be powered by eldrich beings, while electricity is by science. But fire magic never gets an explanation. Why Melenya and Laddak are fighting, and why Melenya seems so much more powerful than Laddak (she literally lives in a poket dimension while laddak is still in the real world). How does the timeline work? It felt to me that the federal-era is the earliest in the timeline, but it doesn't say anywhere. What is the Institute Scientia, and who do they work for?
Other games like this usually have stuff that ties certain characters and plotpoints together, like a spiderweb. Last Faith's story just seems disjointed in some sections, and plain absent in others. Still a fire game tho
7/10 at max and only coz its 10/10 in style art and sound.
All boses are super easy but ok. 70% of weapon are useless. Guns are even more useless. 3 weeks from launch and game still have a lot of critical bags. (For me it was when i go to the next location and its just won't load anything, just a f8ckn black screen. So i should restart the game, and it starts only from the last checkpoint and all my progress from this checkpoint to this bug are not save. (like in souls game if u leave it u just load in the same place) So if u kill boss and run to checkpoint and game bugdt, get ready to replay all what u lost. + some bosses attack just randomly one shooted me with full hp and no any poisonous treat on me, thx god it was really rare but f8ck me when u left boss with 5hp and he just insta kill u with just standard attack.
Blasphemous is waaaay better and sequel I heard are even better than the 1 one. So if there is somehow will be last faith 2 i will buy it only if all of bad things of part 1 would be fixed.

Personalmente me pasó algo parecido sobre el lore del juego, lo completé casi al 100% buscando las respuestas, y al final quedé mal porque hubieron muchas cosas que no tenían sentido. Pero creo que es porque probablemente hayan dejado la historia preparada para una secuela o un dlc, espero que no dejen en juego a la mitad porque tiene muchísimo potencial
I agree, with a better story it could've been better than Blasphemous.
@@RKMan00 Guns can be useful for hitting enemies on ledges without needing to berserker charge them and get hurt. But yes they do feel very lacking. I imagine a lot of stat points and upgrades will be a significant improvement but the ammo limit ruins everything.
Wait so Catarina and Annabelle the two NPCs that help you in the game are actually goddesses trying to dethrone laddak and use eryk as thier means to kill him? Wow I did not peace that together when I first met them . 😳
They’re witches. The nighttide notes mention how they are fighting the Junas ministry, which is led by Laddak
@@vvolfbelorven7084 I was following fighting cowboys walkthrough and I think he skipped over the notes lol,I didn't even recognize Catarina and Annabelle when they were dressed in white till I literally replayed the game

They did said that they weaken laddak so u can kill him but now u deny the throne and they ugh angryyyy
@@eliwoodnguyen1505 it's one of the endings that I got ,you can either side with Caterina or fight against them . All I'll say Is be careful with your choices AND DON'T kill laddak if your doing anyone's quests or once you do all the NPCs die

Great video, I love the lore of this game. There were a few things I noticed in my own lore delving - you can find the four crests of the noble family and unlock the lowest part of the Crypts where Edwyn found the power that corrupted him - a creature called Nyxaroth, the Eldritch Fiend. This creature might be the source of the Nycrux, and Edwyn uncovering it what afflicted the world in the first place.
Further, the Oxnevylle family crest mentions it was last held by Medeya Oxnevylle, which could hint at the true origin of the Cosmic Voice entity who acts as the true final boss.
Damn, nice find. I gave up on reading items halfway through the game but that bit about Medeya would have been fun to find out on my own

@@manuelpalacios4413 It says Helenya is now in possession of the emblem, making her the current head of the family, but before that it says that Medeya was the last of the family to wield the crest, and the crest was lost in battle.

Thank you. There were just too many names thrown around for me to keep track of and the deliberate decision to make every conversation obscure didn't help. I had thought the Sepolcri were some sect among the Junas, nyctorn, Laddak and whatchamahavits. I was confused whether it was me who had broken a promise or what.
I felt that though I was as confused as I was playing Blasphemous II, it seemed somehow that the lore of the faith just oozed out of everything better in Blasphemous and I was happy to be confused as religion wasn't supposed to make too much sense nor be understood by mortal men.

The Easter egg is Esk’s eye in the bottom left of the screen….also question, what about the 4 crests and the boss after you find them, how does that fit in to the story?
From what I gathered on the game. The 4 crests were the families who made the deal for the promise for otherwordly knowledge and/or insight. The dude at the end when you beat it said False God Denied or something like that. Which to me meant that was the celestial being (In this case an Eldritch horror) that made the promise with them as you also break a promise killing the guy. It wasn't exactly one of the two gods in the battle for the faith of the world, but it was being worshipped by the families in the promise, as noted on the Peasant Note found after Nyxaroth.

I am just the only one to have realized that the central statue of three godessess in Oxnervylle mansion and the Burnt Apostate are the same person?
Just look at the rose she was wielding.
Although, seriously, no wonder nobody noticed yet. This lore is so convoluted that a specialist is needed to decrypt this mess.
But if the Burnt Apostate was one of the three night sisters(assuming that Annabella, Caterina and her were either sisters, Night Daughters and Medeya's envoys, and without excluding Helenya and their connection with the Oxnervylle family), why the title apostate?
Did she just turned against her sisters? What was her reasons? What was she raving and raging about? Could Helenya just had added more details about her and Liturgical Pass? Who the hell are the Night Daughters? What is the Last Faith? Isbthe veil Liliana's? When Elden Ring dlc would decide to show up? Or maybe the dev were so hijacked of their mysticism that they don't know the basis of worldbuilding?
I don't know.
But surely it should be someone else job translate what the hell is going on in this game.

Hello! I thought the game was amazing. Definitely up there with Blasphemous 2 for my favorite Metroidvanias this year. I will certainly cover Crowsworn, it’s the first game I’ve ever backed as a founder!
But what happened to Eryk? Did he die in the end? That is my guess since there is no cure for the affliction he had. I hope thers is some dlc in the near future.
Thank you so much for explaining that confusing story! I tried really hard to understand whats going on and came at first to the conclusion that its very much like Bloodborne. But in the end there are so many other things.
Whats with the true ending? What happens to Eryk? Will he die from the cruse and his "monster" form? What happens to humanity? Is that pillar of light more a symbol of hope or the tearing between the human and celestial realm? What about Annabella and Caterina? Have they been the bad guys all along or did Medeya simply use them as puppets to lure Eryk onto the throne? I really liked Annabella and seeing her like that was kinda hard. Also, did they really delete all the people in the mansion? What would be the purpose of that? There are so many questions unanswered and so much unclear stuff about the lore. Its a real bummer.
Especially as I was looking forward to this game for years. And, gameplay- as artwise it was really awesome. But the storypart... I mean, soulsborne-games are known to be cryptic but that ones on a REALLY weird level.

Everything is about manipulation and getting rid of the insatiable power hungry laddak in exchange for a much more benign and manipulatible eryk to be a pawn to those 3 hoes…

Good/bad guys is a bit of a stretch. The whole game is , as the video (and some game materials) eloquently put it, a power struggle between two divine-ascended mortals in the wake of some prior divine conflict (Junas and Nova Elaris) - on one side is Medeya, formerly the leader of the Nighttide coven, on the other, Lord Patryk Laddak. You can either go with their plan and rule over the somewhat cleansed land (with Medeya the power behind the throne and the two handmaidens as your advisors - essentially the 'deep state'), or you can refuse and then it depends. If you've failed to gather Esk's eyes, after you defeat the handmaidens, a rift in cosmos appears and essentially suborns you directly, laying you to rest and assumes rulership directly. if you do have the eyes, you will see her for who she truly is - the ascended leader of the Daughters of Nighttide, fight her and end her, ending the last faith in the realms.
And yes, Annabela and Catherine were in on the whole thing from the start - Annabella manipulates you into gathering the Promises to assume enough power to kill Laddak, and essentially counts on the fact that when the game is up, you'll accept you've been duped in return for becoming the, let's say, second-to-fourth most powerful person in the realm :P
I am still wondering what a starborn is. Also how did Anabella tie laddak down? By spreading the scourge and trapping him therefore in the high walls?
Starborn seems to refer to agents of Medeya's faction. Annabella was working with doctor Hermann, and his notes accuse her of tampering with his work. Now, he _was_ crazy, but he might have been right - Annabella sabotaging Hermann's efforts would have slowed down the Junas Ministry's experiments with the Nycrux, hampering their efforts to create more powerful Nyctorn agents.
@@goldenyak629 So why the hell are the Starborn attacking you if you were working for Medeya?
@@DGneoseeker1 I think they've been subverted by Laddak - there's a few notes that mention he has a practice of turning enemies into thralls.
_Pretty_ sure that the Burnt Apostate is former Starborn, Annabella seems especially emotional regarding her, even though she was singing the praises of the Last Faith.

😂😂 I think I screwed up my gameplay progress. Didn’t even get both eyes and went straight to Laddak. The NPC’s quests were also not finished and I was actually surprised when they all had disappeared from the manor

Im glad you made this video because i had zero idea what the story or lore was. But i got the usual gist of these souls like stories.
-Established world is destroyed or near destroyed by some plague, barely possessing life.
- False gods and prophets
- Characters talking in damn riddles
- Presented with options to preserve the status quo or break it.
I liked the gameplay and bosses....but the execution of the story couldve been so much better. This is why i liked Hollow Knight alot aside from the gameplay. The story was well explained with its mystery as well as the characters background with effective visual story telling. ALOT of games that take this ambiguous route of story and lore thats akin to souls games can learn alot from Hollow Knight. Especially with characters speaking plainly, decisively/clealry. I cant stand the obscure way these characters spoke.
That female character you fight....man she was random.
The character dialog was horrendous, they all speak about nonsense and in absolute riddles to the point you don't even know what they're talking about. Souls games are ambiguous ,interesting and make you think, the last faith i didn't even know what was going on except some guy called Laddock is doing bad things.
Then all the npcs randomly get nuked without explanation and 2 women you've never met are like aha it was us all along!
Game was fun though.

It’s implied due to the experimentations which got out of hand
What happened to the huntress Lisa she disappeard out of the Story after defeating Laddak
She had enough and took a looooong over due vacation to the bahamas
Funny you didn't mention how Anabella sabotaged hermann's research, he literally states there was sabotage either in his dialogue before the fight or in a letter you find later in his quarters
Annabella was to be a saboteur while Catarina was luring people in and converting them to worship the voiceless voice, I believe that's their lore, I may be mistaken on that as it's been a while since I played
Hermann went mad because Annabella sabotaged his research at every turn that's why he was crazy and paranoid in his fight now I remember

I don't know if this is somehow definitive, but for what I found, the Burnt Apostate who used to be the central figure of the trio(the statues foubd in Oxnevylle) betrayed Helenya, and by extention the Night Daughters) to side with Laddak.
And yet nobody freaking cares since most of us pretty much gave up understanding the lore like it was a David Lynch movie.
Didn’t matter tho we got the best ability thru his death 😉

@johnsmith70599 I believe anyone who was in the Oxneyville Manor was killed. The masked lady and Annika’s quest was completed despite the fact we didn’t see or attend the ball. I spoke with the devs and they were kind enough to confirm this.
@@TheInhumanOne Without any corpses in the manor, I left everything up to speculation. Hope we get some closure on some stuff, even more lore and DLCs at some point.

With Myazaki, obscurity is not artificial it's just the way he tells stories. In this game it feels out of place. It didn't have to be this convoluted. I 100 percented the game and I understood nothing of the plot. What is the reason for having cosmic entities running things from behind other than to imitate Bloodborne? I needed to have more interactions with NPCs telling me things without trying to be mysterious or sound wordly and sophisticated.
Two more things one will you more videos on the last faith and if erck and the hunter were two fight who would win ps if you mention me in your next video and get my nam confused just call me sue

I think the Hunter would most likely win. Eryk was strong, plus he had the ability to tap into his Nycrux powers, but his enemies, despite their claims, didn’t seem that powerful. Only Medeya and the hidden boss in the Crypt seem to tap into true cosmic power.

If you take the throne, does catarina and anabella become your consorts/wives as well? I like to think they become your consorts, in my headcannon

They outright say they become your advisors.. So you aren't wrong - because the idea is that Eryk becomes the figurehead monarch with the goddess Medeya being the power in the shadows, Incidentally the ending I picked.

Speed: Maria
Skill: equal
Stamina: not sure but Eryk’s final battle plus the secret boss indicates that his has plenty of stamina
Durability: Not sure either but Eryk can take some hits from Laddak and the final cosmic god. While Maria fought an end game hunter and possibly giant beast back in her day.
Versatility: Eryk no question here
When it comes to transformations both have one, Maria with her blood fire magic and Eryk becomes a wild beast that can teleport.
@armageddon_boy4916 I would have to say Eryk then. His transformation is incredibly powerful and amplifies his abilities exponentially. Not to mention he would only need that if he was desperate!

Who the hell is Lady Maria?
I feel like while being a fairly good attempt at a Dark Souls like game - really more "Blasphemous" than Dark Souls - it unfortunately shows in places where the developers will have wish it didn't.
The story is just a little *too* nebulous, with both too much interaction with NPCs to get you "invested" in them and then too little because they peter off without any explanation as to their goals or what they're doing anywhere.
I think the guy angry about his daughter's death disappears entirely, and it was maybe the count getting ripped up by the Cold One at the Cathedral? Who knows, the Devs didn't care enough to let us know.
And minus several hundred points for just making enemies into damage sponges. For this sort of game it's really better to get rid of the *need* for a weapon leveling system but keeping it there as a sort of way for players to push through with enough power-ups if they run into a skill-wall on a boss fight or particularly difficult room.
You fight the man complaining about the daughter's death later on in the game. If you find him.

I’m familiar with Warhammer, but I haven’t played any of the games or read any of the books. I’d definitely like to explore the lore one day though, but I feel like I’m way too behind.

This story was pretty lacklustre. For a theme about the supposed end of Religion, there isn’t really a lot of religious themes. Now Blasphemous, that game absolutely oozes religion in every pore of its world.
Maybe if the bosses in the Last Faith we’re old Gods of Forgotten religions you had to kill, but mostly they were giant undead vampires?
Well, if you put it that way “giant undead vampires” could be likened (metaphorically) to religion itself, the Gods and religious figures “sucking the life, resources and spirit” out of its followers and the lands it inhabits. Also, vampirism and/or the spread of it is oh so “religious” in its function.

It really is just Bloodborne minus the artistic integrity and uncomfortable themes of female reproductive organs.

The game is awesome, playing it second time atm. The plot is intriguing, but not polished enough, leaves much to be explained.. And the worst thing is replayability.. in Blasphemous you could choose penance and play game again and again, getting main character stronger and stronger.. there is no such opportunity in Last Faith unfortunately.

the problem with this game is not the lore is complicated, it's the very way is written! it's very definition of purple prose that makes it so obfuscating that it fails to grasp your attention because you quickly realize that you need to slowly unpack every sentence like some obscure puzzle to even get something out of the lore. The lore itself is not complicated. This is is decent story but at the end it failed to grasp me, a lore hound just by the very obtrusive way it was written. All characters speak in this excessively flowery way, even children! I am playing a game already, the lore itself should be the reward for game progress! not an intellectual puzzle of meaning and subtext to hide your lore behind!
This better be something of feature from the Kickstarter, because if not.... the writers of this game are exactly the kind of writers that deserve to be kick in the nuts by a horse until the they become one with concept of concision.
I enjoyed the game and got the platinum in one playthrough but I did not like any of the endings 😂

Yeah the game was cool but its story is all over the place and is more confusing and needlesly convoluted than anything else, funny enough its the exact same problem another metrodivania Bloodborne inspired game had (Talking about Vigil: The Longets Night).
But yee, I enjoyed the game very much but I couldn't care less from the story, and even after this lor evideo I'm still confused about LOTS of things and I'm not that invested to really care.

And watching this video it's not even that the story is complicated, but the way it is told. Every single character other than Eryk talk way to critically and poetically to understand what they were on about.
The game is great has potential to be huge like Blasphemous but it needs 1 more year. The game is 6/10
- The weapons r cool but dont have many, early game u have like 4 then u have to carry all the way to mid game to have better weapons that is why ppl tend to max greatsword.
- Guns and spells r useless n under-developed. Eryk is slow at everything and spells r just not useful and dont have many spells.
- build character is just strength. The developers r just too obsess with str build. What if i want to play as gun and spell? The game literally has variety on paper.
- cost upgrade is just too much and they neft they endgame weapons in 1.5 ver, Why?
- dont have cosmetic, trust me variety skins and cosmetics r something u dont think u need one until u dont have one
- lore is great, rich but in the game its too many plot hole and many things that doesnt explain.
U may say the game is 7 but it is just 6 to me and i do enjoy the game

This game and its story was a complete disappointment. Specially the story. There are a lot of parts that are forced down your throat and not really justified. It’s very disjointed and awkwardly told. I’m actually okay with not being able to support the kickstarter. I used to beat myself up over it but man the game really wasn’t worth it.
How dare u to leave out the SHINING BEAUTY that was the ELDRICH WIGHT out of the story!!! Thumbs down 👎🏼

He might not have gotten all the unborn - this was way back. Anyhow, Nyxaroth the Eldritch Wight was the deity worshipped by the four families in secret - that's why you need the four sigils to open the way to the shrine. I very much suspect this was the secret Edwyn was trying to dig out, too.
