High Wills: We curse you to have your name and face forgotten forever.
The penitent one: ??????????
High Wills: We curse you to have your name and face forgotten forever.
The penitent one: ok
bro just said oh no, anyway
His name and face was unknown anyway
The Penitent one: "Why did they say my name and face will be forgotten? Are they stupid?"
The man inside the beating heart could also be the Penitent One ascended to godhood. But I think it's more plausible to be The Miracle reincarnated or a new God willed by the people.
doesn't that person is looks like a female rather than male.
Nope.
@@Qvmmy Nah, it looks male:- the musculature, the shoulders and back are very broad. Anyway he's a thicc boi :)
Lol
It could be a Rebis half man half woman like what Satan is in Devilman
I just noticed, through the game, The Penitent One's mask seems like it's in anguish or some sort of pain, but by the end, when Crisanta and Deogracias put him into his tomb, his mask sorta changes and now looks peaceful
i noticed that too, i thought it was just design.
no
The Penitent One and Crisanta teaming up was the thing I didn't know I wanted.
When you think about it, Perpetva simply giving a chance to the Penitent One and instructing her brother to help him out directly lead to the unexpected duo slaying the High Wills.
If this is what Game Kitchen came up with for a simple DLC, I can't imagine what the sequel will be!! The hype is real o_O
Best game ever holy shiiiiet
Sequel suck
@@fatcat535 Unfortunately.. I kind of agree :S
What stands out to me about Blasphemous is that the Penitent One is doomed no matter what ending you go for.
The bad ending sees him unable to effect any change at all, while the normal ending sees his death still end up playing into the culture of martyrdom that doomed Cvstodia to begin with. And in the end, a zealot like Crisanta undid everything he achieved, holding true to the old ways.
Its only through taking this third option, being able to wrest Crisanta from the control of the High Wills and using her help to kill them, that he's able to die in a way that both secures a future for Cvstodia where things can change, and doesn't leave him to be yet another symbol for the people to latch onto to encourage their self-flagellation. A selfless act without the expectation that everyone else mutilate themselves to follow in its inspiration.
.. Now what comes of this after the fact has yet to be seen. But its a better shot than any other outcome
This also gives them a way to not fear the miracle as well and ending the cycle of suffering too. Plus now Crisanta is on side of true justice and see the way the High Wills been toying with people.
Also maybe, even cursed, probably the Penitent One would comeback in some form, due did this selfless act to save Cvstodia.
👏👏👍
The Penitent One mag have finally passed away in a peaceful end and saved Cvstodia but that still leaves the question of what this mysterious new entity is doesn’t it? You think it really is the Miracle taking physical form? And if it really is does that mean a new hero will be needed?
It's sad but the Penitent One probably knew he was meant to be sacrificed. The people of Custodia seem to be in love with pain, suffering, and punishment and for what?
@@Elly3981 Suffering enables despair. In the madness of despair one can find hope which births faith. Faith uses penance as a tool for salvation through suffering. Suffering is addicting to the human psyche.
I like that they fleshed out Chrisanta as a character, concluded the story with red boi Escribar and gave us something to look forward, also the new bosses are cool but High Wills being just three giant faces in the sky that can be killed is kind of lackluster. I think my favorite story in this game is still Laudes, how contained and stand alone it is. Also I have no idea how they manage to make pixelart look so glorious.
The game took many years probably made back in 2015 with a trailer announcing it back in 2017 and finally released in 2019, that's how long the sequel could've took, the devs confirmed the sequel it's unconfirmed when the devteam started working on the next game before the last dlc even came out, but it's coming out next year, it's unconfirmed when the devteam started working on the next game but it's probably coming coming out on the same month of September, tho I highly feel like the game will go through a delay or many
And to think that for all her ferociousness and prowess in battle, Chrisanta is actually blind.
I’m not disagreeing, but what do you think would better represent the High Wills
Not really easy to kill them" in the sky", The high will where in the other side of the dream, most people cant reach the ream, let alone have mea culpa and its true heart that can harm the high wills, they where a deity who controls others, make people blindy follows them, escribar was guarding it for a reason, they knew they could do nothing afther that. Penitent one did the impossible.
I think what the ending means is that, similar to the Idea of Evil and the Godhand of the Berserk universe, the world of Custodia is one in which the spiritual energies of the inhabitants can create a 'god' out of their combined unconscious desires and impulses. Just like the Idea of Evil, the High Wills were manifested from the unconscious human desire to find a reason for the suffering of their lives in order to ground it in their conception of the universe; and if there is no inherent reason, then the High Will by way of the Miracle, or the Idea of Evil by way of the Godhand will create a reason for it to exist.
I think the people of Custodia, just like the Twisted One, felt guilty on a cultural level, and thus manifested the High Wills that would create the Miracle as a way of performing collective penance in order to remove the guilt; the Penitent One is simply a mechanism built into the system to carry out this penance since it had to operate via agency. The Penitent One takes on the guilt of the world, destroys the High Wills, fulfills the purpose of the Miracle, and then dies for the sake of the people... but in so doing essentially reaches the same level as the High Wills in power and in the hearts of the people... and because the world of Custodia operates on this manifesting capacity of the people's desire, the Penitent One is reborn as a new 'god' to reside in this new age that he helped to bring about.
surprisingly enough (SPOILER).... you can find an item called The crimson heart of miura that looks exactly like the behelith.
@@viyemp1681 Yes, it's a very clear reference to Berserk. Pressing the "lore" button on the crimson heart of miura basically openly proclaims it.
Thats How Shin Megami tensei main series works
There's a sequel? Interesting
Another thing, I think the land of custodia is plagued by an infinite series of gods and fevors, I think in ending A, the penitent one simply restarts the cycle with the same gods (the high wills). In the true ending, the wills are gone, but in time peoples beliefs change, the penitent one being forgotten along with the miracle, allowing a new God to take their place.
Possibly, in some franchises the killer of a god is the one who replaces them.
@@matthewmartinez3907 the penitent one is by no means a god or godly, just a (man?) warrior who (wanted to?) save his land, and by extension kill the high wills, at any cost
@@The_KingDoge I don't see in how saving your land while also keeping to the rules wouldn't be considered godly especially in custodia.
In literature I’m sure there’s a few examples of common plain humans becoming god status after going through perilous adventurers and journeys. Often times it’s not their volition, either something higher then The High Wills willed it or him becoming something to a god (if the man fetus in the heart womb is him reborn) was by necessity.
@@ikengaspirit3063 Hes a very powerful mortal, but there seems to be distinction, even the father was just a pawn to the high wills, also, the penitent one simply cannot be remembered and seen as a good due to the fact his legacy is doomed to never be remembered
Great vid! For my part, I interpret the mysterious figure in the heart at the end to be the Miracle itself, incarnate in flesh. With its creators gone, it's now 'off the leash' as it were, and it's removed all the afflictions it granted Cvstodia at the command of the High Wills so it can focus on creating its new body.
quick thing, did the high wills actually say that they created the miracle? or did they just say that they control the miracle?
@@cosmiclevi5274 Actually, they never flat out say they created it. It appeared in response to a prayer to them and they claim to control its every act, but it might predate them somehow all the same.
@@goldenyak629 They do mention that Ancient Processions are older than them so I assumed that The Miracle was also older. In trailer where they tease Blasphemous 2 at the end that guy who speaks Latin mentions that Miracle will be reborn.
Could very well be then that at the end of the true ending we see yet another physical manifestation of the miracle, possibly in a new era of faith in Custodia. Also maybe the Miracle is the true god wich predates everything, but was shackled and tainted by the high wills. We'll just have to see.
If High Wills controlled the Miracle and he resurrected Penitent One, it's ironic that Penitent One killed High Wills. Did a miracle resurrect against High Wills' will? Perhaps we already have the answer: "For twisted are, were and will be, the paths of the Miracle".
Personally, I preferred the original ending's route of a very twisted and alien morality system in that world where extreme physical suffering was considered better than guilt. I personally really like the theme of Alien morality systems.
Because this new ending makes it feel a bit too much like the overused JRPG trope of killing your god.
If you are to end your penance, to stop your guilt and suffering, and to save everyone else from it, the only solution is to destroy the miracle, and to do so means to slay the high wills. But now i wonder, if by doing so, you’d become the new god, and create your own grievous miracle?
@@irvs5922 If it was me, i'd create the Blazing Miracle. Everyone has free weed everyday. High Wills? More like REALLY High Wills lmao
@@DestroyTheWokeBrainrot We replace the high wills with the Most high
@@irvs5922 I say this makes sense in light of the DLC but without the DLC, why would anyone want to end the Miracle in this world given most of the pre mount of ash miracles (pre-DLC) are the people wishing a suffering upon themselves, the post-mount of ash miracles are miracles tied to the fallen pope not the people so it makes sense to end a miracle that is making more than its primary recipient suffer.
@@ikengaspirit3063 "For the love of the Most High wills, get the hotbox started. For I have Long yearned for it" -Diosdado, Night Guard of the Library of Negated Joints
Cant wait for the lore of Isidora voice of the dead and The Big snake next .
2:12
That "eternal condemnation beyond life and death" may be what the cocoon at the end is - Penitent One reincarnated to continue his penance, penance for a sin that cannot be forgiven.
Thanks for making the video. Couldn’t quite figure out what the ending meant. Thought the man was a byproduct or a contingency plan of the Miracle
There's a possibility that he will be the main antagonist of the next franchise
I LOVE these explanations of the lore of the games new update, thank you for them!
Miracle is more ancient than High Wills. He/it created The Ethernal Procession. Miracle is still existing forece (of nature?) behind everything unnatural/divine in Custodia. Right now there is no one that controls it (at least as we players know). We don't know where High Wills came from and why they created this sort of religion. Maybe even they still exists in some form. We definitely don't know who in reality is that baby man at the end. Everything above is writen/told in the game. Truth to be told, whole third ending is just prologe for Blasphemous II. Right now there is no need or sense to overthinking anything becouse we know too little.
exactly what I thought. This " new ending" is just there to prepare Blasphemous 2 and bring something else with the High Wills.
The 1st ending A was already giving a good conclusion to the story. he new ending tells a bit more and change the outcome on a few details.
Didn't Escabar say he'll sink down the clouds when he was defeated? I'm thinking it would be the Miricle combining with Escabar's remains, which he was blood red and now you have a red heart embryo thing hanging down the sky.
Boss in the sequel would be the idea of evil
Blasphemous already had deep Berserk influences but with this DLC, it's even more blatant. The High Wills are basically the God Hand or even the idea of evil. Even the giant man inside the heart looks a lot like idea of evil or Femto in his God Hand egg.
@@FreddyMontana69 Not to mention a behelit that you an equip
*"Goodness never prevails. Yet, the people tormenting her like she's a harlot mother. Why seek vegeance in justice? Unless you return to harvest gate, in dreams are your only hope!"*
*-Random Quote-*
A few things worth noting about the ending.
*Considering that The High Wills were once a presence that willed themselves into a form of flesh, I don’t think that The Penitent One and Crisanta destroying their heads TRULY killed them, and that they can will themselves back into existence even after death.
*Based on the original post credits scene, and the fact she is the only character that could really be a playable character outside of The Penitent One, I believe Crisanta will be the protagonist for the sequel.
* We don’t know how much of The High Will’s actions were undone. We know that The Twisted One, and most likely The Knot of Three Words, along with Mea Culpa, probably with The Kneeling Stone, and The Penitent One’s life were taken. But it brings the question of other creations. Do those whose bodies were morphed by The Miracle die, or are the effects just undone? And what about The Visages?
I do like they idea that the high wills are maybe just one god among many others throughout the world. All formed from different cultures and beliefs, I just find such world building cool.
So if this new entity really is the new physical manifestation of the Miracle itself, does that mean we may see a power even greater than that of the High Wills?
Thanks mate I was lost in all that ancient mambo jumbo that head said .
If High Wills controlled the Miracle and he resurrected Penitent One, it's ironic that Penitent One killed High Wills. Did a miracle resurrect against High Wills' will? Perhaps we already have the answer: "For twisted are, were and will be, the paths of the Miracle".
The idea was to make the Penitent One the new face of the Miracle with the purpose to sorta revitalize the faith of the Miracle on the people of Cvstodia, which is what the original true ending did, he became the new Messiah the same way the Twisted One was. However what the High Wills did not expect was for Perpetva, Esdras' sister, to tell the Penitent One of the existence of another path for him which lead him to find the truth about the Miracle and the High Wills
@@bradneko_14 right and still, High WIlls is angry with breaking their laws.
My english isn't good but I understood
But why did the Miracle the Penitent One in the first place? This story was incredibly deep, fascinating, and despite your great ability to weave the story together, it seems like it had a few important holes.
bro, can you tell me the name of the background song that you used in this video?
I just thought about something, I wonder if Nascimiento's questline has anything to do with the sequel, does the being that emerged from him happen to be connected to the new manifestation of the Grievous Miracle that we'll be seeing in the sequel?
Strangely enough, a brief moment of the Wounds of Eventide animated trailer showed a scene of a shadow given off by the scene of the "old man" bursting forth from his chest. Which is strange because every other scene in the trailer was related to the new content, while Nascimiento was introduced in the Stir of Dawn update.
*the penitent one = the gunman*
*the twisted one = the scientist in distress*
*the high will = the super evil computer*
What makes me wonder though, is the miracle separate from the high wills? If it isn't, why would they will the penitent one alive, the only one that can carry out their execution?
I believe the High Wills “hijacked” the Miracle, in a manner of speaking and manipulated it to manifest itself as they so desired.
The High Wills quote “Making us cast down our eyes, leaving the Miracle bereft”
and when the Holy blows are struck, before the faces engulf in blue light. The face on the right side of the screen pops One Eye 👁 out, yet all other eyes shine blue.
The cocoon cast down almost looks like an eye, the miracle is twisted and the pupil turned to man, as one last act of Blasphemy upon Cvstodia
2:33 paused
I wonder if the MC of the Blasphemous sequel will be a new Penitent One or the original?
Wait, ok so there's something conflicting here, The High Wills quote that they use miracles to their purpose, but right after that they quoted *The Miracle* as if it was above them.
So... who is above who?
Is the High Wills above? Or The Miracle above? (Whatever The Miracle is).
I’m not sure, but I assume that the miracle was created by the high wills , as they say that killing them would leave the miracle bereft, but I believe that even though the high wills created the miracle the miracle is more powerful than them, maybe an analogy that could explain this is that we have created guns that are way superior than us and now it can take form
If the high wills were born from people's thoughts and beliefs, the sky womb could represent the "birth" of a new religion and a new eldritch abomination to go along with it.
I believe that’s The Ancient One from Nacimiento’s Chest. In the trailer, we saw Isidora and Sierpes, Esdras and Crisanta. So why is Nacimiento there? Is it probably we’ll see him in the sequel??
the holy hearth is a simbol of love and absolution of humanity. I dont know if they will incoporate this and show a thisted city without order and an new penintent one reborn walking there or will go in the same rote with the skys bringing sufering to the people in custodia
He may have been cursed for going to and killing them but it was a small price to pay for getting to skull split them dead.
Any idea why the penitent one was the only one to be killed without being stripped of their clothes?
In the comic all other penitents were killed while The Penitent One was claiming Mea Culpa. Crisanta killed him there in the church where Mea Culpa was born and thrown him from roof of the building of Brotherhood of the Silent Sorrow atop other already naked bodies. Others where probably stripped of clothes as a way to shame them, but nobody bothered to undress The Penitent One as job was already done.
@@vanjaarsic1616 ay cool, Thank you
What I'd like the know is how the hell did Crisanta kill a whole army of penitent ones. Lol
@@ghostreflect5940 It was not only her. The Warden of the Silent Sorrow was there to help. Maybe even more than one. You can see in the cutscene when he is hitting ground in the background that he is probably finishing off remaining penitents. Also other penitents are most likely normal people and not powerful as The Penitent One. I don't think there was much problem eliminating them.
@@vanjaarsic1616 The thing that separate the penitent one from other penitents, is that the penitent one is a miracle himself. that's why dying in-game made you respawn from altars and such that it makes sense, because he can't literally die. Thus, killing the high wills (origin of miracles) also killed the penitent one.
The fact that your vids don't have more views is a crime
Hopefully with your help that will change!
3:27 - 3:38 Could this be the reborn Escribar due to his last words in true ending? 🤔
I came here because the trailer for Blasphemous 2 dropped today!!!

I just get this game andt its epic
I want the new penitant one that we control to be Crisanta.
It would be a nice story abt her penance bc of her guilt at having a hand in the death of the Penitant one.

The Miracle Made Flesh.
Basically the penitent one is now the final boss of the upcoming sequel game

Am I the only one getting serious Silent Hill vibes from this game’s aesthetic and story?
anyone else get reminded of the ending in 2001 a space odyssey?

This game is way easier than Elden Ring, though, but yeah, they are great.
Hey I beat cristina before equipping the heart, can I do anything about it?
Unfortunately, there is no way back. If you have already killed Esdras or defeated Crisanta without equipping the Apoplectic Heart, you too, will be blessed by the Grievous Miracle and forced to restart the game…

Vagary always infuriates me. Especially when the explanation warrants an analysis.
Understandable! You must not be a big fan of the Soulslike genre then! Also, more and more Metroidvanias are adopting a similar story telling mechanic that requires much more in depth analysis of item descriptions and subtle details in the environment to piece together the entire narrative.

Do this new ending negates the original one? Or the lore of the other dlc?
The ending in Wounds of Eventide is considered the new canon ending leading to the sequel. The other endings are considered “alternate” endings or “what if” scenarios.
@@TheInhumanOne does this mean the fight with the Escribar from vanilla never happens in canon?
The fight with Escribar is still canon. In fact, you get to face off with his true form in the new content. The only major encounters that changed are the fact that Esdras doesn’t die and Crisanta becomes your ally.
Explained is a stretch, more like your personal theory based on already known lore
Is this really the true ending?

@@TheInhumanOne Ok.thank you for confirming. I was starting to have doubts. 😅. I was starting to think the ending where the penitent one stabbed himself and became a tree was the actual ending.
