I attempted to change mine today but it didn’t clear the exhaust. I tried to remove the heat shield but someone previously had welded it together. Any tips?

How do I know if the starter is bad. I own a 2010 that will not crank or start. Good battery

Usually it will make a clicking noise and not start. Another way to tell if a starter is going bad is to have someone turn the key forward as you tap the starter with a hammer. If the starter cranks over it is going bad. Do this at your own risk.

Mine just makes one click and doesn’t turn over. Have to do it a few times to get it to start. Battery is good tho. Id say that’s most likely the starter, right?

I did this and now i have knock sensor codes. We had to remove the knock sensor to get the starter out.

I would check the connector to see if it is seated correctly and also make sure the sensor doesn't have gunk on it that may be causing this issue. Hope this helps you out.

@HomeOwnerRepair so I took a look and I guess I forgot to tighten it down a bit more. Hopefully that solves the issue. But your video saved me tons of time and money. I'll be looking around on your page for more tutorials.

​@hotpackjay the starter power wire is on the driver side. He never showed location.
On a impala 3.6 (sideways engine) it's between the engine and radiator fan (under exhaust manifold) so I can only assume judging by this video that it's not on the driver side otherwise the steering shaft would be visible.
