    According to some very quick research, the big square facades were apparently used to hide the typically shabbier look of the actual structural part of the building. It apparently made the building look much more grand than what the builder could actually afford, and was usually for commercial buildings.

    • @ZSHplays
      @ZSHplays  2 месяца назад +5

      OK that makes sense, thanks for the info!

    • @tknoff87
      @tknoff87 2 месяца назад +2

      Another thing is that all these towns typically platted very wide streets due to the often very rapid growth they could experience. So they would use the front of the building to make the building appear a story higher than needed so it would be more in scale with the street it fronted

    Mentioning the raccoon gave me a thought! Perhaps similar to Nome, maybe you could do something similar with Dawson City, Yukon (Klondike Gold Rush and all). The raccoons’ little hands in the water make me think of gold panners, though raccoons don’t extend that far north (unless you wanted to take artistic liberties). Maybe the moose or beaver could be an water-y alternative? In any case, love the build. ❤️

    Copy and pasted from a website, but being a native Californian it lines up with what I've learned and been taught growing up in an old gold rush town
    "Almost always used for commercial purposes, false front buildings gave an air of dignity to a quickly growing town by providing visual continuity along the street.
    The style was popular in the West, after the California Gold Rush of 1849, as a way to make hastily built town buildings look more like the impressive commercial buildings of the East."

    I do just want to say that normally California sea lions are commonly kept in a bachelor group due to the amount they breed .in the wild sea lions will live in a group up to 80 if bread in zoos the male sea lions are kept in a different enclosure commonly ,but some zoos have kept them all in one group but this requires a large enclosure just like the one you built in san birnadino . I also think it looks better (:

    I know you’re also making a third Asia section, so I would heavily recommend taking a look at the Himalayan Highlands at the Bronx Zoo. This area has a highly naturalistic look to it with the many hills and rocky terrain. This area has snow leopards, red pandas and cranes, so you can add in snow leopards and red pandas, and then you also add the giant panda and maybe the takin or saiga as well
