- Dog lives in Manhattan and he’s tired of being alone. One day he decides to build himself a robot, a companion. Their friendship blossoms, until they become inseparable, to the rhythm of 80’s NYC. One summer night, DOG, with great sadness, is forced to abandon ROBOT at the beach.

watched in a film festival, the most heartfelt film of the year. just go see it, hope neon does the oscar campaign right, robot dreams deserves an oscar nomination.

Iron Giant Syndrome.
Saw this at TIFF last September, and while it is a bit of a tearjerker, it’s a very positive and upbeat examination of friendships, and how they sometimes take us in unexpected directions and that’s ok. It’s a fine movie for adults AND kids as viewers can read as much into the relationship between the two characters as they like, because it’s honestly about friendship more than anything, but our relationships with our friends are often just as complicated as our relationships with our spouses, families, you name it.
Happily surprised to see this nominated for an Oscar. It won’t win, but it’s still a great honour!

I AM GETTING MASSIVE NOSTALGIA!!!! Robot Dreams is one of my all time favorite books! I read it way back in 3rd grade, and I still read it from time to time as an adult. I AM SO EXCITED!!!!

Watched this a few weeks ago (Spain) and I can't wait to see it again. It's just beautiful both in visuals and message. A love letter to the pureness of love and friendship. Also heartbreaking, I recommend bringing tissues.
Just watched this movie at an early access screening. My friend and I were very close to tears. We loved how heart-warming and adorable this movie is. I'm glad I could watch this before the Academy Awards.
Saw this at the Toronto Film Festival and talked with the director. An amazing, heartfelt movie that uses animation for the betterment of the story. The director, who's a really nice guy btw, doesn't have any prior experience with animation but has great respect for the medium.

I was lucky enough to see a showing today, and this movie captured everything about the story, visuals, and heart of the comic and translated them so beautifully into another format. If anyone who worked on this film sees this comment, please know that your work meant an incredible amount to me, and I am so grateful for the care that went into telling this story.
I hope we can get the date soon for when it releases in theaters, cuz it would be such a treat to see this on the big screen!
It has been said that Neon will release this later this year, so I assume for next year's Oscars.
Robot dreams was my all time favorite kids book all the way up to the end of middle school there's something about the art style that kept it charming
Sad that I missed this in the festivals this year, but I just watched it and it's one of the cutest movies ever. Just a good wholesome story.

Worth noting: Dog channel-hops across a commercial for GLH spray-on hair. This product was long forgotten until I uploaded the infomercial from an old VHS tape to my channel around 14 years ago, after which is gradually went viral. I'm not sure whether Sara Varon referenced it in her graphic novel, or Pablo Berger added it for the movie, but I'm always glad to see it popping up in new contexts! 🥰

@@OzoneGamerStation Yes, they used the footage and drove a ton of viewers back to my version as well! If you read the comments under my video, you'll see quite a few people writing about memories of others who used it, with varying results. 😀

I have had this book for many years and it still chokes me up every time I pull it out for another read. Very excited to see this film!
I wanted to see this at Annecy, but my friends all said that it looked too childish 😢
My group was all animation students and for some reason the group leader had decided that (as adults) we had to stick together because it was a foreign country and they didn’t want us getting lost. What ended up happening was that we got into basically no events and we baked in the sun for hours waiting in line for stuff, only to be turned away 😂 Lesson learned! Next time I’ll forge my own path and see gems like this.
For me it's my favorite animated feature from last year, and one of my top 3 movies from 2023. Simple, cute, funny, heartbreaking, thought-provoking and carries a meaningful message. The score and animation style are also beautiful. It just has so much heart and emotion in it, felt sincere, refreshing and touching in the most non-manipulative way.
This was a beautiful movie one of the best things ever I was crying by the end ❤️

I bought this novel shortly after its release. It has left me with a small irreparable in my heart ever since my first reading.
I was just thinking about this and Sara Varon’s other graphic novels a couple of days ago, what a coincidence.
It’s cool to see this over a decade after reading the book.
