Platinum Carbon Ink is more prone to clogging fountain pens because it is a pigment ink, meaning the blackness comes from black particles of pigment in the ink, rather than a dye ink. If you keep a pen filled with Carbon Black in use and don't let it dry out, and clean it regularly (say, every two weeks or every month, even if it has been working well), then it really shouldn't be a problem. Incidentally, I got your Line Almanac Volume 2 in the mail today! I now have Volumes 1 and 2! Your books are all on my wish list on Amazon.
Yep. I use Platinum Carbon in all my pens. My Rotring isographs, fountains, etc. If I find I am not using a pen, or I become attached to a particular pen and know I'll be using it/them exclusively I'll empty the others out, clean them, and shelve them. Letting any waterproof ink (pigment, india, etc) sit in a pen for more than a week unused is generally a bad idea. Just wash it out and save your pens from gunky deth.
Thank You for this informative review Peter. I represented Venvstas in the US three/four years ago when they were starting out (Kickstarter). They mainly had the CarbonT to sell at that time. There is nothing else to say- You are using good ink, and you filled the pen correctly.

Hello Peter. Thank you for the honest review. I hope they replace your pen with a non-leaking one. I am not sure they are obligated to since it is a freebie, but what an epic fail of a gift! And I enjoyed the plant tour, and your neighbor's cat. And you! You definitely gave it to the slump with your drawing, so go you!!! I will speak a bit about your plants....that one with the limp leaves needs water, maybe yo could sit the pot in a bowl of water until it stops looking limp and the leaves are back to not being curling. You have an interesting combination of succulents (which should be water infrequently) and others that need tending fairly often. Some also take sun (the succulents) while others will be happier if they do not get full sun. Oh, and give a support stake to the palm and make sure it is getting enough water, so it can hold itself up. I hope the cat will let you make friends with it. And I name animals (plush and living), and my personal car. The first one was a Ford Pinto hatchback, and I named it Spot. It was the sweetest car. The second car I owned, I did not name because it was mean.
Succulents can survive low watering but they do best being watered as often and as much as other plants. That said, they then grow more and require more maintenance.
@@linden5165 Long long ago, I lived in this place that had this epically old jade plant (which Peter has a smaller version of, the succulent with the rounded thick leaves). I was at the time an outdoor gardener/landscaper, but knew virtually nothing about indoor plants. So I was used to feeling the soil, and when it felt bone dry, I started watering it. Until the owner of the place asked me to please stop because I was causing it to rot. Sure enough, the leaves were looking wrinkled, so I was paws off with that plant from then on. It forgave me and recovered, and they watered it once a month. I had been watering it every 6 days!!! Bad Jean. Well-intentioned, but bad Jean. But you may be right, because I was *really* watering it, so if given a little bit only, maybe it would have been fine?
Looks like you create a vacuum when removing the outer barrel around the plunger and that sucks ink out. Similarly, it creates pressure when you put it back on. I bet if the had like a breather hole somewhere it wouldn't leak anymore. Anyway, what do you think of the titanium nib as compared to steel?
This review reinforces the long-standing cliché that Italian pens are all gorgeosity outside and basically unreliable inside. Luckily they are also sufficiently expensive that I personally am never tempted. The design of this pen appeals to me, but I'm never going to spend over $100 for any pen, so I just watch entertaining reviews of it like this one. I'm on Team Pilot Petit1 and proud of it! You are right, Waterman ink is completely safe for everything. Any problems had are NOT because of this ink.

youre a good man peter, i love your videos- 21:23 dont worry abt it, you reviewed the pen honestly while remaining very nice. They kinda dropped the ball with this pen, the materials are cool and the craftsmanship is too but it just doesnt work very functionally. Especially for a price like $300.
If you're a collector and have money to burn...that's one thing but there's no need to spend more than $30 for a pen that will write just as good as a $300 or $3000 pen.
Agreed, you pay for craftsmanship and stuff. One possible exception though: gold-nibbed fountain pens. Those start at more like $120, they're not necessary AT ALL, but the experience is at least different and can't really be matched with a cheaper pen.
@@beandob For studio/drawing purposes dip pens have been used since forever. On the go for some line variation especially for writing is more or less the only legitimate niche gold nib fountain pens have.
Hi Peter, Maybe it was over filled? When you put the cap on the cover of the plunger, since this created an air tight seal, it effectively pushed in the plunger with the air pressure. It probably wouldn't have "splushed" if the cap had been left off. I'm just guessing of course, though I do have several fountain pens myself, one that I have had for over forty years (side lever with a bladder). Note: You can replant your palm to get it to stand up straight.
I use Platinum Carbon in all my fountain pens and if problem ever arises(rare when they're used often), a soak & flush with Rapid-O-Eze(you can thin it with water) fixes it. The stuff is magical. I've got a jar filled with the stuff from 10 years ago and it still strips dried ink away like it was brand new.
That plant that is weeping I think it is called pothos. I've grown it with the roots submerged in an aquerium so don't be affraid to give it plenty of water.

I had a similar experience with my venustas pen. I bought it like a personal gift for myself. Unfortunately, it is really difficult to get a clean ink recharge. Furthermore the back part of the pen lost its grip to the body of the pen, so it is now a moving part of it. I will write the Venvstas hopeing they can help me, replace the pen or giving some advice.
Water your plants until they drip from the bottom. Then wait for them to feel totally dry, or just a HINT of moisture. Less frequent, but heavy watering Good rule of thumb. People tend to overwater more than underwater. And water way less in the winter. 👍 can't go wrong.
Ah, Italian pens. More than others prone to be problematic. Out of my collection of about 50 pens only Italian Visconti had to be sent for the warranty service. It should have been sent twice actually but I fixed the nib myself. Italian design is beyond anything else, but both practicality (in your case ink seeping from the section) or build quality are awful. It's a shame.
I fucking laughed like an uncle would of his own joke, when you said it's struggling a bit, but I just watered it, and you could hear the dry ass wilted leaves rattle like the snake would! Oh my gosh.. I felt like jagging my elbow into someone's ribcage while pointing and throwing my head back in an absolute, out of the blue, from the bottom of my gut, way too loud, authentic laugh.. tears were forming.. hahaha.. thank you Peter..🏆🥳
For the “struggling” plant that you asked if you watered it too little or too much, the answer is too little. It needs more :) especially in a patio setting like that.
There has to be a point where a pen or nib hits the...point, where it can preform no better, no matter how much time you put into making it or the material used.. imo the price point is around $50. After that it’s too much. unless it’s gold or encrusted with diamonds or something.
actually up to 100-150 a 10- pen is as good as a 140 one nib wise. You just pay for the brand or design. This is why I would never buy a 50,- fountainpen but do own 10,- and 200,- ones
That pen is really interesting, I wanna mess with it and see what the issue is. I suspect there's a kind of specific way to fill it, maybe the ink shouldn't touch the carbon fiber housing? That sounds pretty tricky, though. When you had the ink drops on the paper: I think when you put the back of the pen on (which is a tube), the cap was posted and sealed off the tube, and the pressure built up enough to push the plunger down a bit. I wonder if this is what some call an "advanced" pen? I don't know lol. Great video!
The Carbon shouldn't touch the ink, ideally, but we'll check this, otherwise we'll get people angry at as..........a cartridge version will be out soon, also a Mark2 of this pen.
Dear Peter, I very much like your reviews cause you are objective and honest. I try to explain you what's the problem might be. Our fountains pens are made of pipes that slides one into the other, therefore you will always have micro cavity where the ink can flow and eventually leak out. This force the user to carefully fill up the ink as our videos shows. If you would have tryed to fill the Carbon-T directly from the bottle, you could have experienced the same issue. That said, we will push hard to upgrade our products every time. This is why we need your help and this is why I like your honest review... to make things better for our customer. Nevetheless, I am sure that if you look at our video you will learn how to fill the magna without any leaking problem. On the other hand, if that specific piece have some leaking problem we will replace it immediately as per our customer policy. A big hug!
Peter i love the video but please... take better care of your plants! That hanging one is a pathos, and it needs a lot of water. Every few days water it enough so that the water drips out from the bottom, that way it gets through to all the roots. And those "ferns" are actually ivy and they also need water enough that it drips out the bottom! Wishing you and your plants the best of luck
You could put a stake in beside your palm to give it some support. For thriving potted plants use an occasional liquid fertiliser and refresh the soil ever year, or whenever they look unhappy. That pen is definitely a disaster, especially at that price.
Those are not ferns they are ivy... And ur plant that is withering away is a marble queen pothos.. you thick leaf plant is a jade plant.... I worked in interiorscaping .... opposite of landscaping
Hi Peter! Did you mean carbon fiber and titanium? That looks like titanium to me, and it’s harder to machine than stainless steel. The nib looks titanium too, you and check with a magnet because titanium is non-magnetic. Also I reckon you meant 35 hours of work instead of 35 minutes going into each pen, lol 😆 You’re not obligated to give a positive review because the item was complimentary, but I notice most reviewers just let the givers know so there’s no room for hurt feelings just in case. Hi neighbor cat! Hi plants! More water for the plants, maybe re-pot your palm friend so it’s standing up again and up the water quantity. I’m no plant scientist, but I’ve gotten pretty ok at keeping my plant friends alive. I’ve found that most plants do ok even if I over-water them once, as long as I make it a habit to stick a fingertip into the soil to check if it’s still damp first before each watering. If it is I wait another day, just make checking them a part of your every day routine. Get to know them, talk to them, get a spray bottle and mist their leaves sometimes. Think of them as wise old oracles. Good luck! Happy drawing!
It's probably hand assembled, not handmade. $300 is insane for this 😅 You can buy 24 inches of pultruded linear carbon fiber tube for $8, 6 feet of stainless steel tube for $100 and fountain pen internals for $10. For $300 you could buy the materials to make ~24 pens. 24 pens would take 12 hours to complete and are being sold for $300 each, that's literally $600/hour 😂 Edit: 5 minutes of labour makes it $7,200/hour 🤣
The pen looks great, but not for $300 when ink leaks. I had cheap ones at school that did that just as well. Love your plants. That cat will become a regular in your videos.
You are too cute. Those "ferns" are ivy. The little guy you watered needs a lot more water. And the one next to the snake plant that has the nice thick leaves is also a Succulent. Abs loved the video.
Give my regards to your spider- and other plants! Keep them alive! I love houseplants (drive my wife crazy with my ever expanding indoor jungle.... Btw what you call snakeplant goes by the interesting name vrouwentongen "woman's tongues" in the Netherlands, you know sharp and pointy...🤣

Ah, my anxiety cure is right on time! Love relaxing after a work week with mister doctor Peter :)
It's snowing here!
Very nice plant tour peter, and I've been digging the new Minecraft series
I vote go back to the carbon ink... I think it's fine. or at least I've never had an issue with it. Love the slump dude.
Also have the
G2 .07
Gel pen
By pilot
If you like the G2 try the signo uniball 207 pens, super inky and smooth
Great vid Peter! 👍
A big hug!
I think that the thick leaved plant is a money plant , Peter.
Peter I think it has a seal leak on the "Plunger". Flush it out and refill it but don't fill it all the way.
I like your quilts, Peter ! :D
Your music is pretty chill
Cats do make your day better, I agree. 😺
Mice in the audience disagree!
Was lookin forward to enjoying the excellent intro from the last video
Oh no. Didn’t they fix it yet? I recognise this. Thanks for the heads up.
I like my .07 pen but it
Is not got piston converter
To refill it,
Energel by Pentel
Metal tip
Needle point
$400 pen that leaks? That IS a Ferrari!
You could put a stake in beside your palm to give it some support.
For thriving potted plants use an occasional liquid fertiliser and refresh the soil ever year, or whenever they look unhappy.
That pen is definitely a disaster, especially at that price.
If your conscience bothers you, remember us, your fans, and the money we won’t be misspending. Thanks for the review. Love your plants.
Best black ink: Noodler's Black, honestly
Peter: I like to save the names for important things.
Peter at 1:20: [proceeds to name each plant]
Peter my guy what’s your favorite song
you should try noodlers ink, Hearth of Darkness, is the best black ink for me 😁
You showing your plants made me so anxious those poor babys 😭
I missed your plants peter
Those are not ferns they are ivy... And ur plant that is withering away is a marble queen pothos.. you thick leaf plant is a jade plant....
I worked in interiorscaping .... opposite of landscaping
Hi Peter!
Did you mean carbon fiber and titanium? That looks like titanium to me, and it’s harder to machine than stainless steel. The nib looks titanium too, you and check with a magnet because titanium is non-magnetic. Also I reckon you meant 35 hours of work instead of 35 minutes going into each pen, lol 😆
You’re not obligated to give a positive review because the item was complimentary, but I notice most reviewers just let the givers know so there’s no room for hurt feelings just in case.

Only 30-35 minutes of human labour in the pen????
das not a lot of time
Well you can find videos of Lamy’s production line and apparently there’s about 5 minutes of human labor in each of those
It's probably hand assembled, not handmade. $300 is insane for this 😅
You can buy 24 inches of pultruded linear carbon fiber tube for $8, 6 feet of stainless steel tube for $100 and fountain pen internals for $10.
For $300 you could buy the materials to make ~24 pens.
24 pens would take 12 hours to complete and are being sold for $300 each, that's literally $600/hour 😂
Edit: 5 minutes of labour makes it $7,200/hour 🤣
:0
i know what i wanna be when i grow up now, thx
@ Yes.
@ hell of a lot more moving parts in apple products, have another comparison?
i'm hear just to hear you talk!! :)
Life is picking up a frog, watching it hop away, and subsequently noticing an odd substance in your hand
In my country it's mother in law's toungue. I Guess the meaning is somewhat simular.
@@mulle3574 We have the mother in law's chair; echinocactus sp. ....🤣
Hello Peter, I believe that you should be honest above all else. If the company sending you a product does not triple check it before sending it out, how can you be responsible for it being a lemon? I enjoy watching your videos simply because I believe that you are truly an original person who tells us how you are doing and what is going on with you. You are not a fake. I look forward to watching you create your art and present your videos with truth and inspirational acumen worthy of a person years your senior. Thank you for sharing your experience and I hope you have a lovely day.
Love these
Man Peter, your videos really give me good vibes. Nice little escape for the not so copasetic vibes goin on out here.
