    Dr Berg notes on this "must see" episode!
    Vitamin D toxicity is very rare and typically involves too much calcium in the blood. Even Dr. Bruce Hollis, a pioneer in vitamin D research, has never personally seen a case of vitamin D toxicity. To develop vitamin D toxicity, you’d have to consume hundreds of thousands of IU of vitamin D3 for months!
    Vitamin D needs magnesium to function properly in the body. The more vitamin D you take, the more magnesium you need. Magnesium prevents vascular calcification, the main problem associated with vitamin D toxicity.
    The vitamin D receptor is dependent on zinc. Like magnesium, your zinc requirements increase when you take vitamin D. Zinc deficiency symptoms include an altered sense of taste and smell, acne, flaky skin, and lowered testosterone.
    When you increase your vitamin D intake, you’ll need more vitamin K2. Vitamin K2 helps prevent the buildup of calcium and also helps to drive calcium into the bones and teeth.
    The active form of vitamin A, called retinol, is also an important cofactor for vitamin D. Vitamin A receptors sometimes bind with vitamin D receptors as a complex. Vitamin A also helps keep calcium out of your arteries.
    Always take vitamin D3, not D2. Vitamin D2 is less potent and is typically synthetic. Avoid synthetic vitamin D3 supplements and supplements with fillers such as maltodextrin or glucose syrup.
    Leafy greens, chocolate, certain nuts, and pumpkin seeds are the best food sources of magnesium. When choosing a supplement, look for magnesium glycinate. The best food sources of zinc are red meat and shellfish. If you take a zinc supplement, consume it in a blend with other trace minerals.
    For every 10,000 IU of vitamin D3 that you take, you’ll need 100 mcg of vitamin K2. MK7 is the best form. Vitamin K2 is found in high-quality grass-fed butter, kimchi, sauerkraut, grass-fed beef, and eggs.
    It’s best to get your vitamin A from food. Egg yolks, liver, and cod liver oil are the best sources.
    Thank you Dr Berg!
    😺👍

Thankfully, I no longer deal with this but I was never aware that there’s a black box warning about this on the label. There are various names under this class of antibiotics. Magnesium Glycinate: Recommended for its high absorption, with doses potentially exceeding 800 mg to relieve cramps. Some individuals may require significantly higher amounts (up to 2400 mg) depending on needs.
    Zinc: Best obtained from food sources like red meat and shellfish. For supplementation, it’s crucial to ensure it's part of a trace mineral blend to avoid creating a copper deficiency over time.
    Vitamin K2: For those taking high doses of vitamin D3 (e.g., 10,000 IU), a ratio of 100 mcg of K2 per 10,000 IU of D3 is suggested. The preferred form is MK-7, which can be found in grass-fed butter, kimchi, sauerkraut, beef, and eggs.
    Vitamin A: Best sourced from animal-based foods such as egg yolks and liver, with cod liver oil being particularly recommended for its balance of vitamin A, vitamin D, and omega-3 fatty acids. Beta-carotene from vegetables is noted as an ineffective source for vitamin A.

    Hi Dr.Berg, I have been doing keto and IF for over a year now. I do it for health (I have no weight or metabolic issues). I also take 10,000 it's daily of vitamin d3. When I had my recent blood work my total cholesterol was 276 (hdl 89 and lol 172). My lipoprotein frac. Nmr was excellent. My triglycerides 60. Then came my vitamin d level: on a scale of 30-100 I was a whopping 129! My doc said he has never seen a level so high. My calcium was 9.8 (in range). I have heard about lean mass hyperresponders. Have you seen people on high fat diets have high vitamin d?

    • @gskyle4822
      @gskyle4822 17 дней назад

      How long have you been taking high dose D3? Do you also take K? I'm kinda in the same boat, high LDL (150+), high HDL (~90), low TG (~45). I think lean mass responder usually have much higher LDL which could be reduced by resistance training for the most part even if you're on keto. I was lean and didn't have any metabolic issue, just wanted to tried keto and IF to see if it ll increase my athletic performance. I ended up losing weight/muscle mass and messed up my metabolic rate. I got back on my previous diet - high carb, low protein and high fat, and things revert back to normal. No industrial food (supermarket meals or seed oils) Low sugar intake, (that includes especially bread). Add to that regular exercise and sunshine and you'll stand a good chance of a long healthy life. It's the ancient formula, we don't need so called "super foods" they are just today's fad. Most people if they live healthily don't need extra vitamins.

      In case of you having really low IQ and reasoning capabilities lower than a toddler, I will explain to you what doctor said in this video
      There was nothing wrong said, yes he proved the title is true, and yes he proved the title is wrong
      1. It's hard to reach vitamin D toxicity levels when it's taken properly (read: with all co-nutrients)
      2. Vitamin D IS dangerous, if you would take LARGE doses, over LONG periods of time, WITHOUT consuming vitamin A, K2, magnesium and zinc and a bit of copper to balance zinc intake
      3. Vitamin D is necessary for a living
      4. He just compressed years of studies to give it to you, so a normal people can access this knowledge without diving into hard-to-understand studies on pubmed or etc.

    My naturopathic doc says my vit d levels are too high at 140, and it tends to leach calcium from bones when too high. He wants my levels at 60-70. So far I can't find any info on the leaching of calcium. Too high happened after inconsistently taking Dr. Berg's D3 + K2 supplement, pretty much only when I have felt maybe a cold or flu coming on. I haven't gotten sick, but am i doing other damage to my bones?

    • @DrAJ_LatinAmerica
      @DrAJ_LatinAmerica 12 дней назад +3

      60 - 70 are considered "normal" however 100 would be better. At 140, not necessarily high, "depends" on about 32 other items that must be tested and investigated to determine "normal" for you. Age, Race, family race and culture, area of the world you live in, elevation you live at that location, nutrition / diet, past health history and present health status, present medications...... All must be reviewed, not just a number. Plus, must take three blood tests within one month and then establish an average. Bone marrow biopsy to confirm calcium levels in your bones. Blood / serum levels not a good indicator of bone health.

    What should the vitamin d level be in your blood? Would it be better to aim for certain level instead of telling people to take 10k IU every day? You need to monitor the level and adjust accordingly. Mine seem to go up nicely at 8000IU daily. Latest bloodwork showed 259 nmol/l which is about 105 ng/ml. I think 10k IU daily is fine for most people as they will likely not absorb it well anyway.

I think keto is great for alot of healing the body, literally like fasting but all longlived populations eat moderate ammounts of carbs and science is catching on to this whilst it is also surfacing that keto can be very dangerous for the heart. I know that there will be no babies without carbs because the female body wont bleed with to little carbs. I tried Keto and find it utterly fascination and a very cool, sort of, medicinal practise, but calling it the human diet, makes zero sense. How would one eat so much fat in nature? From what I hear our mitochondria needs plant foods to thrive.

    The magnesium supplement i bought says on it: Energy: from 700 mg Magnesium Glycinate, and next to it says each capsule: 91mg. The package is 60 capsules so does it mean each capsule has 700 mg of magnesium or 91? I am confused

    Dear Dr. Berg, what could it mean if both vitamin D and parathormone (PTH) levels are elevated simultaneously? Could this be a sign of vitamin D resistance? I would appreciate your insights on this matter. Thank you.

    Thank you for pointing out the dangers of exacerbating a magnesium deficiency through taking vitamin D.
    I hope everyone understands the lack of magnesium in our soil, and how necessary it is to supplement magnesium in the form of glycinate and malate.
    Much appreciated, Dr Berg.
    Thank you.

    When I was taking Vitamin D3 my liver enzymes were elevated a little. I was sent to a gastroenterologist and I slowly eliminated supplements( over 9 m) It was the vitamin D. When tested my vitamin D was 40. That was during the summer and I live in FL. Have you ever heard of this? Could I be sensitive to it or maybe have a gene mutation that causes this? All the doctors were stumped. I would like to keep my levels up especially during the winter months. I’m scared to start taking it again.

    I did not take vitamin D for 4 or 5 years, because I realized it was making me sick to my stomach all the time . Then I had a nurse practitioner mention that it was probably the source of vitamin D that was causing it. Now I primarily get my vitamin D from a lichen source as well as from fish . In addition to the vitamin d, I realized that magnesium was also causing nausea. I have not been able to take any vitamin that has magnesium in it for a few years now, as it makes me very sick to my stomach. I have to avoid even vitamins that have just a small amount in it. So I've been getting my magnesium by soaking my feet in magnesium. I can also get it through food, as I have not had any issues with that. Would you happen to know if the magnesium issue could be more of a source issue as the vitamin d was?
