You have to do the full delete kit. Replacing the special lifters with regular lifters and change the cam. Not just the valley tray.
💯%
If you don’t know👆🏻 , now ya KNOW !
Hello, can someone help me? I changed the entire kit to eliminate the DOD/AFM and now I have low pressure and the lifters started making noise.
Always be aware that people on RUclips giving advice might not know what they're talking about.
😞
@@thegmoutlet 🤣🤣🤣just sad
So here's a little info for you if you do a DOD delete here is some info. 1 if you just turn it off in the ecm your fine unless your having a tick from lifter failure. If you replace the dod lifters and want to completely eliminate the DoD you need to change the camshaft a dod delete cam has a grove machined into the second cam Journal so oil will pass to the Dod replacement lifters . There oiled threw the dod solenoid plate. If you delete the dod solenoid plate the cam needs replacement. Sorry.
Great info, finally someone with a brain out here.😊
dod delete cam does not have groove in the cam journal.
Well I've been doing them for 13 years are so maybe 50, 75 of them an every dod delete kit or cam has had the groove.
The groove in the 2nd cam journal is to supply oil for VVT on Gen IV & V engines, it has nothing to do with DOD.
You can't just change the valley cap with out changing the lifters.
thought this was gonna be a bs video saying all these block off plates were no good as I'm about to put one on mine with LS7 lifters, had me worried for a minute, but glad to see that that wasn't the case. Good info to have for people that don't want to tear their motor down to the block, definitely gonna be good advice for anyone who sees this, or anybody that asks somebody that has seen this video about it. I love finding videos on stuff like this that cover a niche group of people, that take a different route to manage an issue and find good valuable info for the next guy to encounter, helps a lot more people than one might think. THANK YOU! I'm sure more people need to see this video!!
Awesome!
The HARDY ( harbor freight) “mechanics” gloves tell us all we need know .
🤦🏼😂🤦🏼😂🤦🏼😂🤦🏼😂🤦🏼
Dang bro that sucks. Glad you’re back on the road! That Suburban is a champ!
Yeah brotha, it was pretty dang crazy! I had to say a prayer lol!!
I got a list I do every time I go in for a delete -cam-lifters-cam thrust plate-oil pump -relief valve plug-valley cover-tower plugs-check timing chain and all new gaskets where needed ..vehicle will run limp mode without having that stock top plate plugged in dummy hanging there ..but it works till you get it tuned out ..
That's why you have to change the cam and lifters
18:58 Alternator sleeve bushings drove me nuts on my LS1 Trans Am! Fought it 20 mins to mount it, looked at old Alt vs. new Alt. they were Identical. I got further up under car and saw them sticking out of the bracket and knew they were instigators lol, I eased them back in with channel locks & then Alternator slid in fine.
I'm sorry, but I knew what was going to happen the second you installed that block off plate. The way DOD works as you found out is it diverts oil through the solenoid tops during normal operation and closes applying full oil pressure to run in DOD. You essentially put it into DOD all of the time doing the block off. You can also damage the lifters latching bridge so be ready for that. Great info either way.
came for this comment 🤣
He just didn't do it right lmao, you sospose to change the lifters and put in regular ls lifters in out of a none dodge ls, . Blocking the holes off isn't all you have to do
@@greddmyles3677 You only do the lifters if you do the cam too. The lobes are cut on different base circles and the dod lifters are taller for the different base circle. If he only did the lifters then he would have to do pushrods for the difference for those specific cylinders. By doing the block off plate he forced full oil pressure to the lifters unlocking their pins essentially making it run in DOD during cold starts and high oil pressure instances.
Time for that chopacabra cam 😏
I thought a low pressure oil pump, cam and lifter replacement were a requirement for AFM delete.
Just cam and lifters
Cam, lifters, lifter buckets, remove relief valve in oil pan and block it, oil pump oring and reinforcement for pick up.
And get ECM flashed to shut it down.
Same situation. 2007 Tahoe 4wd LTZ. Massive oil leak from back of motor/trans bell housing area... that's easy, the rear main seal is leaking... WRONG. Like an idiot i pulled the trans/tcase and everything out to replace the rear main seal and what do i find, the name and date of the previous owner from when he changed the rms. It was never leaking, it was the three rear bolts on the VLOM that were loose and leaking oil.. The following weekend I pulled intake and torqued the vlom bolts and no more oil leak. Unfortunately that was the first of many problems with this Tahoe. AFM, Flex Fuel and way too damn many sensors have ruined a great vehicle.
It is a great vehicle for sure. These systems are nuts.
When you do a DOD delete you have to go to a low-pressure oil pump the high oil pump one in there is made for the active fuel management the high oil pump pressure is collapsing your lifters
U need to cut out a 1/4 inch of the 8 tow seals to bleed off the towers. The factory vlom cover has tiny bleed off filter between each 2 towers.
Nothing wrong with those plates- they are on all the 4.8’s . I deleted mine and changed the cam and lifters 5 years ago- no issues
Little tip for anyone who has others work on there vehicles, if you se the guy who’s doing the work for you wearing HARDY gloves grab your keys and 🏃🏃🏃🏃RUN!!!
*This vid is a perfect example*😂😂😂
Well that's not nice
My 07 denali is doing this , I thought it was my Rear main seal which it paid for. Then a month later oil leaks again. The valley gotta be the issue because it's not oil Sensor at all . But my truck does have dod but doesn't work.
I still have to think that rear main is leaking you cant see it from the inspection plate because you are seeing the wrong side of the flex plate. It also looks like that front seal is trashed and you need a new cam and lifters plus access to write the ECM to turn off DOD. You get spark plug #8 by removing the inner fender and its not so hard. I just did this to my 08 Pick up because just like you oil was leaking out faster than i could put it in, exactly like you i had an oil pan in the driveway to catch it all.
Im doing a dod delete on ls4 and I’m doing everything cam lifters double roller timing set new valley plate plugs for the 8 oil passages. I also already got a tune but was like this guy that corner of valley plate oil leak. Since you pull heads to do lifters valve job then. No wonder this is having problems just half assign the work. He needs a role model
Wait. You got 421K miles out of OEM DOD lifters?! WOW!!!
412K, like driving around in a time bomb 💥
Never happened though...
Anyway to message you personally. I’ve ran into the same exact issue I believe
Even though i would not be doing Anything i just witnessed cause it looked sketchy as hell, i give this guy props for at least giving this a try. Lets be honest, alot of people would be to scared to even try this
Subscribed, Good Job figuring it out.💀
Thanks for the sub!
Here's the other person I had the same issue with my 06 5.3 trailblazer with a brand new engine tried the vlom plate and 2 min after starting a brand new engine started hearing a knocking noise, thought it was a fly wheel, or injector, or a bolt that fell into the head. Turned out to be the bypass plate mine to has been coded out for the afm also. Placed the factory plate on and all is okay was a scary moment wish I had found this video before
Does check engine light up?
I will do the same delete with camshaft. But afraid off malfunction. Early 07
My 07 Silverado got the full delete new lifters new push rods new cam new oil pump new valley cover new timen chain cover I don't get no check lights my truck runs like a normal 5.3 supposed to
My 07 Suburban had a big leak from the crank shaft seal.
Look at that oil pressure… dude, the engine is cold, wait until it gets warm then see what it has. VLOM= valve lifter oil manifold.
Im fixing to perform this delete on my 08 avalanche. Full cam swap wish me luck
I wonder if not plugging this will make excessive oil pressure up top. Just wondering why I’m getting oil leaking every where. I replaced the rear main seal and put new valve cover gaskets on and I’m leaking oil faster than I can put it in.
Did you replace the rear seal cover plate gasket?
@@larryreno8293 yes sir most definitely. For some reason it was leaking out of the valve cover gasket. Replaced them and put an oil filler breather cap and my leaky problems went away. This motor has 225,xxx miles so I expect blow by. Hoping to get another 225,xxx haha
@@bowtiebuilding I can relate to that… I have been a mechanic for 37 years now and I have had issues with many of the molded rubber gaskets, even from suppliers like Fel-Pro. They just don’t fit well, they will fall out of the grove in the valve cover far to easily causing problems.
The best seals and gaskets I have used so far, other than OE gaskets are from Mahle. If I were a betting man I would bet they are the primary OE supplier of engine gaskets and seals, they fit absolutely perfectly and stay captive in the valve covers.
Doesn't look like distilled water to me. Htf did your vehicle last this long???
Did you try TIG welding or tapping them to close them permanently?
A year later... You still have the suburban? Howzit running?
I don't. The transmission finally went out at 439,000 miles. I got rid of it.
Another problem on these suburban the plastic radiator will Crack along the seam they all do it ,be glad you got 2007 with the 4L80 transmission I wanted the 6L80 and mine and everyone else I know by 100k 5 grand for a new transmission my o4 with the 4l80 went over 380k when I sold it .
This one here has the 4 l60, which is pretty cheap if it goes wrong 😂
@@thegmoutlet that's what I'm saying the 6L80 is junk
If it were that simple, we would have to spend $2000 on parts to remove DOD
you should have replaced the lifters too
I believe the oil leak is the oil pan where the pressure goes through it.
Possibly
Look at that fucking driveway
Rear engine cover gasket can leak down on starter
What the hell do u guys see his motor mount/ ratchet strap below the alternator I’m wondering if there isn’t a secret charge account at harbor freight and a giant shade tree in the back yard. I love the guys tool boxes too just look at the organization
I am no expert, but I believe your replacement plate would be fine, you just need to leave out the 8 small o-rings if you do not replace the camshaft and lifters. . As oil works past the AFM lifters, it can pressurize the AFM towers and collapse the AFM lifters if the towers are sealed.
Sounds about right! I just reused the vlom to be sure.
That won’t work either. The engine will hemorrhage oil into the valley, causing low oil pressure.
At 14:57 what was that object that fell into the intake?
I reviewed it closely and I do t think so. I drove it for another 20k miles
Dude why do all that work an not take the lifters out?!?
You need to be a really good mechanic to own a GM, I wasn’t one and my GM cost me a fortune even with me doing half the stuff that went wrong with it.
When you do DOD delete you're supposed to replace the lifters and cam along with it. Not just replace the oil valley plate and turn off AFM in the PCM
There are 2 ways to do a DOD delete. You can just replace DOD lifters and valley plate and shut it off in the ECM. Or replace cam and lifters with non DOD units and replace the valley cover plate (the valley plate doesn’t absolutely have to be replaced if you leave it unplugged but it’s a $35 part. The DOD oil pump is not high pressure it’s high volume.
How are you going to move a higher volume of oil through the same size passages without increasing the pressure?
You have to change the the lifter and the camshaft ain’t no if ands or buts about it great video but until you do you’re gonna harm or kill your motor
Agree 100%, because both the cam & lifters are different. Especially when you have higher mileage it’s only a matter of time until the AFM lifters go bang.
@@DoyleShadduck right
Omg I was thinking to do this glad I watched this
HP tuners, $100, and turn it off in the ECM. I doubt youd ever have it fail, but if it did, THEN consider the conversion.
Turn mine off at 3000 miles then it failed at at 44000 miles so yes it does
It is off on the ecm and tuned. Was tracking down a leak.
You Need to replace the cam shaft if you are doing a complete delete...
What's the best cam for a 08 Chevy
@@melindadollarhide8603 not sure... when you do buy buy a complete delete kit it should come with a cam... should be a stock cam.. unless you are are looking for high performance. Then you would need a high performance cam
Something fell in the intake when you put the plate on. Watch the video.
Obviously this guy doesn't do any maintenance to his vehicle until it breaks.
I just can’t imagine taking any advice from this video, lots of red flags, ratchet strap was the first
Lmao it work though. Did it on the side of the road after being fed up with the mount while towing a truck.
I have an avalanche with a non DOD and non vvt 5.3. I knew better.
Invest in a pressure washer.
Dude why do all that work an not take the lifters out?!? Just do full delete
So glad I’m not your neighbor.
Lmao
Yeah just pay someone to deletete the do professionally lol
No need to pay anyone brotha! I'm pretty capable of doing it, just lazy 😂
I’ve got a video I’d like to send to you

Wtf? Just turn it off! It’s literally one click and you don’t have to install some sketchy plate inside your engine!
It is off...was trying to resolve an oil leak
I wonder if this guy did this on purpose for a vid .. theres indo everywhere that this wont work to delete it ..
Negative
You dont know what your doing why would you not take out the afm lifters like your supposed to
2 weeks ago i had a lifter replacement done on my 07 suburban they said everything looked and ran great.......Till everything happened again exactly 2 weeks later in the same spot..... Cylinder 1 intake failed again. I kinda know my stuff so removed the valve cover and sure as shit same lifter. Took it back sense i didn't have time in the first place to do it myself and paid $1900, they now found that the valley was starving oil from that lifter. They are taking care of me at no cost but the new valley and any other damages if they find any......Just sucks that this great shot has to eat the cost because of GMs shit. When i pick up my truck ill be dropping off pizza for the entire shop, im not rich but fell bad that a new business is going to eat the cost.
You fried the Dod lifters bro
Drove it for another 20k miles until the trans went
