Coroners should be 100% independent of police departments, and if the case of someone's death is in anyway connected to law enforcement, such as in George Floyd's case, the autopsy should be done, whenever possible, in a city or county outside the jurisdiction of the police department involved. It is shocking to see the corruption on display in cases like this.

In fact coroners are often elected. This means they do not need any prior medical experience. Coroners are county officials meaning they can even make arrests and carry a gun. Meanwhile, medical examiners are appointed and when pressured by higher authority get put in a messed up position.
@@42976675 I d say so there trying to hide something there just unaware of the job there doing a coroner is like a sheriff I think he rules the cause of death. The medical examiner's are like the investigators that work outside the police. That job put him under a lot of pressure, he might need some kind of legal council. I don't think it excuses him commiting perjury but they are two separate jobs both equally as stressful.
A qualification to hold the office of Coroner-Medical Examiner Should only be held by healthcare professionals. Not the sheriff, not your grandmama next door. We’ve got to stop that
I very much agree with your quote sir and one thing I'd like to add to it is yes the truth has nothing to fear from inquiry but the police should be scared for their jobs if they come out with the truth.
I am thankful that here in Scotland, Great Britain. Forensic Pathologists like myself are employed by University Medical Schools and we have minimum contact with the police as such. We work in Hospital Mortuaries usually in which police will only come in to witness the autopsy and hear about our findings. Also here we always have 2 forensic pathologists at an autopsy, this is the law, this is to make sure that we both come to the same conclusion and so one of us doesn't miss something significant. The police would have a lot of trouble trying to interfere with us as we are a great deal more independent.

Good to know Dr. Omalu is still a badass. For those of you who don't know, he discovered CTE, the brain disease most football players have. There's a movie about it where he's payed by Will Smith. That man had such integrity.

Wow this story needs to be catapulted to a major television program. ppl are already forgetting how damaging medical examiner's make a case & not by choice. And why is the sheriff the one that determines the cause of death? Having no medical schooling to examine a body that gives ppl closure for the truth. Its shocking
Great piece and so important. So many stories of so-called suicides and accidents I've read I have not believed. We need a new Coroner in NY; really we need more than one
You say that the autopsy blamed Floyd, but maybe they're being objective. If his health and drug use contributed to his death, shouldn't his autopsy report include that? You highlighted the section that "blames" him, but the words immediately preceding that section are "restrained by the police". The next paragraph blames the officer: "Police are trained that this type of restraint with a subject in a prone position is inherently dangerous."

Pathology doesn't lie. Keep the police, military and politics out of it.

@@lisawebb836 exactly
He is the same pathologist that brought out the concussion brain damage football players have suffered
He sure is! What an amazing Dr. & Man! He was "ALL" business.
And the NFL tried to smear him over his findings that several high profile players had CTE
that is why I recognize him. I wonder why CBS did not mention this?
Yeah. He is very smart.
TackerVideos Maybe he didn't want any more 'haters' to attack him.
What's sad is ....this goes on in the military..things get swept under the rug
All the time!
The corruption in the whole system needs to come out.
He was tazed 31 times!!!? And it wasn't ruled homicide, right? What good is a medical examiner?

thank you for waking up, because the parents of minority kids can’t afford to lie to their children and tell them everything is good
Because ypur goverment divides us on purpose and indoctrinates us with the weaponized television every day
The amount of corruption and intimidation within the police department is astounding. We need to finally do some

did i understand that right? coroners are elected? WTF! HIRE THE MOST QUALIFIED PERSON!
The problem then would be the corrupt sheriff hiring a flunky coroner.

Thats why pathologist's identity should not be disclosed and sensitive case should have 2 pathologists for the death result's approval
