It's cool that you do hardware related stuff too Alex, last time it was the DS SP mod and now this. It's so nice of Sony that they made it so you have easy access to parts like the fan and the drive and you don't void your warranty just by trying to clean the machine (unlike with PS3, the PS3 was a 5000 piece hard core puzzle, I hate taking apart a PS3).
There is no voiding warranty by opening your console anymore, that's recently been banned in court, those void if removed stickers are illegal now baby!
@@dooleh84 wow, that's so cool! Have you ever tried to replace a CMOS battery in a PS3? They are right on the motherboard and you have to peel layers of materials to get to it. I'm glad those stickers are a thing of the past now.
Really good video the only thing I would add to it is that little spacer should go underneath the memory card so it keeps it flush with the plug-in where the card goes and also for cooling but I'm not an electronics guy just my two cents
Xbox ssd card is a much better approach. I remember when I got my first 360 I thought all systems moving forward would have easy insert hard drives. A boy can dream.
hi buddy, great video, quick question. is a 1tb hard drive enough or should i go 2tb. also if i have a few games on the internal and i dont move them over , and then i move over a few games to the m.2 , can i still play them normally without moving them over? thank you,
@@PepsiManX360 he's a joke, he doesn't even know how to use the spacer/standoff properly, so this vid is misleading, God knows if he reinstalled it incorrectly again after attaching the heatsink. This was an ego trip video, not a properly researched one.
Will you lose any saved games, if you take out a full ssd, and put a new / empty ssd in a ps5 to save more games onto the new ssd ? Like on a ps2 system, you can swap out different memory cards, if you want to play different saved games. I don't think it would be a problem. But I just want to make sure before I do anything.
No, it is not required. These drives rarely get too hot. They only get hot when I run a speed test on them and even that don't require a heatsink. That being said, the heatsink does work when used. Under test my drive was getting above 80°c, but with the heatsink it would stay under 50°c and the only part getting hot was the driver chip, not the storage chips.
If you have data saved on your system does this mean I might lose my saved progress? Or is that saved on a different memory unit? Otherwise this means I can uninstall games I have downloaded from PS+ I presume
Lost my shit didn't know both sides opened up and I swore one video said the PlayStation marked side is the one to open. Opened that so no slot and I was like did I buy a cheap shit version! Thanks for this video!! Ik both sides open
If you work on PCs this is obviously basic stuff but people who own consoles don't want shit to be this hard. They want a plug and play experience, and upgrades to be simple. It's unbelievable to me Sony still makes it this difficult when Nintendo and Microsoft both have extremely easy solutions to upgrade storage.
Yeah, pretty expensive although 500GB is affordable imo but then again 500GB won't be much. Hopefully the prices will come down when the pandemic is over and the whole supply/demand situation is back to normal.
Seems Sony wants to keep the read and write speed of the M.2 SSD the same performance as the internal SSD regardless of its speed they will reduce it down so the expandable storage speed can match the internal ssd speed.
They should have made it external like Xbox. This is way to complicated for the average person. I appreciate the video though. I'm hoping Sony comes out with a easier option for increased storage down the line.
Hey can I remove the xbox series x ssd from the console and install it in my ps5 if I cut the internals out and melt some of the plastic with a blow tour so I can play ps5 and sx games on the same console?
Once you remove the cover for the expansion slot, is it normal to struggle getting that little screw out? I had no issues getting the cover screw in and out, but I cannot seem to get that one to budge
Try rocking it back and forth. Seriously. Lightly tighten the screw, then with normal force, try to unscrew it. This will rock the screw back and forth and sometimes works. Again, tighten it LIGHTLY, obviously, because you dont want it further in that in already is (that's what she said) LOL Hope that helps somewhat
It will be fine but it's definitely best you get a heatsink just so it can work at optimal temperature I just got an Aorus Gen4 7000s SSD with a heatsink for my PS5 and it's extremely easy to install since you don't have to do any heatsink attachment as the heatsink is part of the SSD itself
Yes you can, though it will run hotter, which could lead to a shorter lifespan but honesty you’ll be fine. Down the line you can pick up a heat sink and add it
@@BadCompanyBravo Yes, that's one of the fastest, but its hard to find and overpriced. Especially if you want the first party heatsink. Which I highly recommend for quality and warranty purposes.

I’ll just keep using the same external 4TB I originally had for my PS4. Might be a while until I feel the need for more ssd storage. Good video tho

I guess the externals we had for ps4 won't load ps5 games on them 😕

I have a 4TB external drive for my PS4 games, so I keep the 2TB internal for PS5 games.

Is it me, or you screwed the ssd “under” the spacer? And did you know that you have to update the firmware of the samsung ssd so you’ll have 6k speed?
I put it in but I won’t even read I go to storage and it tells me I haven’t connected nothing
Thank you!
Did you backup all your data and stuff before you upgraded your storage? Because I don’t want to lose my stuff
Hey just to confirm this will increase your storage and allow you to play games directly from the SSD heatsink? So no copying back and forth?
What’s the best 2TB storage units to buy tho? Obviously the best recommended for the ps5 but where do I buy it now?
I'm not a mechanical engineer, should I attempt this?

Question you can leave the games that you already have installed on the ps5 while doing this process?
I must say.. Game Informer really just threw this together huh?
For the price those tiny things sell for, I am fine with the internal storage + external HDD for PS4 games.

Yeah thats why the internal ssd is 5500 MB and a good M.2 averages at 6300 MB, so that's the same!
What's crazy is,the ssd is a little faster on some games 🎮
Need a method that would minimize redownloading games. Installing an SSD and heatsink is easy.
