Saw Dee Dee about 4/5 years ago at a Northern soul weekender at Prestatyn, she couldn't hold back the tears as around 3,000 gave her an ovation before she started, she was geniunely shocked by her reception and sang her heart out. A very special unforgetable evening that i think she enjoyed as much as we did KTF
OMG What an incredible evening that must have been. I’m glad she found out how loved she was in that sudden, unexpected way. Beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
Dee Dee worked the cameras to a "T". She nailed it with her dramatic gestures and vocal range. The TV audience received an award winning performance that rivals all.
First day of High School B-10 1965 Drivers Education class. Our teacher asked us students to say something or sing to introduce ourselves & this Black Girl ( I unfortunately do not remember her name) she stood up and said I want to sing a song & she sang this song acapella and she blew me away!! I later heard it on the R&B radio station here in LA. I finally was able to buy the 45 in 1967 & I still have it. I ♥️ Dee Dee Sharp.🎤🎵🥰🎼🎻🎶
On this day in 1965 {December 15th} Dee Dee Sharp performed "I Really Love You" on the ABC-TV week-day afternoon program, 'Where The Action Is'... At the time "I Really Love You" was at #78 on Billboard's Top 100 chart, that was also it's peak position on the chart and it's seventh and last week on the Top 100... Between 1962 and 1965 the Philadelphia native had nine Top 100 hits; with three making the Top 10 {her biggest hit was "Mashed Potato Time"*, #2 for 2 weeks in 1962}... Besides "Mashed Potato Time", her two other Top 10 records were "Gravy (For My Mash Potatoes) at #9 and "Ride" at #5, and they both also peaked in 1962... Also in 1962 she reached the Top 10 in a duet with Chubby Checker; "Slow Twistin'" peaked at #3... Ms. Sharp, born Dione LaRue, celebrated her 73rd birthday three months ago on September 9th, 2018... * The two weeks that "Mashed Potato Time" was at #2, the #1 record for both those weeks was "Soldier Boy" by the Shirelles... Plus "I Really Love You" was her ninth and last Top 100 record...
Wow! Thanks for all of that info. I loved her when I was a kid because my older sister had an album called Junior Pops which included a wide variety of songs including Dee Dee’s “Willyam, Willyam”, where a woman says to her beau: “Willyam, Willyam, when you gonna marry? You’ve been a tarrying much too long! Are you just a turkey in the straw, boy? Don’t you want to have a mother-in-law?” A fun, feisty song. I finally found it on RUclips (after realizing it was not spelled “William”!) and I listen to it to this day. I love Dee Dee.
Completely fallen in love with Dee Dee on this performance. i have never seen anyone sing and perform like this. Her eyes, her glances, her lips her voice, her face. Wow I would have married her if I was old enough and was around her. I just can't stop watching this video. I have never felt this way just from watching video. What a performance. She was so so so stunning in every way!!!!
Her facial expression like the rest of r & b singers in that time was like that because in order to cross over they had to sing in front of an all white audeince. And during that time african Americans where bei g oppressed. But these were are trail blazers.paving the way for black girls rock.Yes sounds kinda controdictory but the world is changing.
@@kirkpayne9784 bruh take your NEGATIVE ass out of here. She is Beautiful and her Performance was Grand. The music NOW, if you want to cal it Music Sucks, like your post
Perfect phrasing, watch her lips at :28-:29, her and Barbara Mason similar techniques. I love how she sets up the song to softly before she belts out full power vocals. Gorgeous woman.
Grew up in the inner city of pittsburgh. I was white everyone else was black. God I grew up with all that soft sillky soul of the 60s and 70s. If I listen to it the tears come. loves lost. I am 68. Back then soft kisses on a summers night. Can't go back in time, when love was mine, weren't no OJ, no rent to pay, and life was good every day. I am so fuckin alone with these memories, anyone else there with me??
HAPPY BIRTHDAY Ms. Sharp!!! 09/09/1945!! Dee Dee Sharp!!💜 AN American R&B singer, who began her career recording as a backing vocalist in 1961. 09/09/2020
Her best performance- a mature Dee Dee, removed from the gimmicky dance tunes. This should have been a major hit- talk about a missed opportunity! Cameo/Parkway should have promoted the hell out this record!!!!!
I was watching a documentary on Muhammad Ali and Dee Dee was in it. She said they had planned to get married but Ali told her she had to speak to his mentor Malcolm X. Malcolm told her she'd have to become a Muslim but her mother refused.
For what logical reason? It was her life and livelihood. Doubtful anyone else outside of Mr Gamble was going to support Ms Dee Dee nor care otherwise about her well being. Go ahead Mom's!
Sucha beautiful song & a beautiful young girl! Sad that you can clearly see she's high in this performance! Just like Barbara Mason, its apparent. The mouth, the jaw... bless these women today! I hope they are healed & still making money!
When the song comes on she listens like everyone else until the 5 Second mark when she is spiritually overtaken by the music and then looks up ln embarrassment but the experience felt too good and she let go at the 12 second mark in an almost orgasmic state and everything after that she was not listening to the music she was the music
Sept.9th: Happy birthday Soul-R&B Singer Dee Dee Sharp, Gold Records, Rhythm & Blues Foundation Pioneer Award, Artist Music Guild: Sandy Hosey Lifetime Achievement Award. Thank you and God bless. Thanks for the upload, scorpionsoulful. Blessings. Tha's a singer right there.
Absolutely stunning vocals interpretation and she at that young age played with those cameras better than a Hollywood pro! The amazing Miss Dee Dee Sharp Love from the UK x
I want to put this out there I am in Love with one Woman and we been through a lot togetherness but I said things that I never meant to hurt her but we are perfect 👍
Dee Dee Sharp was such a huge talent: what is wrong with the world that she didn't become a mega-star? (By the way, @Avatar610, I love the dance introduction songs she recorded: so joyful and unpretentious. I see no gimmicks at all there, just straight out singing. In fact, those songs let her show how big her voice was.
