Hi Max, hi Guys! I would need a little help. I just bought my Ronin-SC, and I experienced a little, very soft, very quiet noise from the motors. Before I used Zhiyun Crane Plus, and I did not hear anything, but I haven't used any Ronin gimbals before, so that is why I am asking if it is normal. (I heared it only when i was alone in a room, and only if i put my ears close to the motors.) Have you expericenced anything like that?
Bought the SC few months ago and after the update I used it in a wedding for about 10 hours... Used it with the sony a6300 and the sigma 16mm f/1.4... Perfectly balanced the battery lasted the whole the day!!

Is this a good gimbal for weddings? I’ve been planning on buying it soon and I hope to use it in my near future to do wedding videography. I’ve heard mixed opinions on if it’s good for weddings or not :/
So my wife just surprised me with this Gimbal so Im doing my research on it now and I came across your video. I wana thank you for your insights on this ronin as you went in to full detail about your experience with this device. My question to you now is, this video is almost a year old and I want to know if you still use it?
I returned The Ronin SC for my Sony A III because it just was too weak to work with the focus motor and any zoom lens. The Ronin S is heavier, but not by much and it does a way better job with full range of motion. I bought this and am very happy
My current setup is the Sony A7III + Tamron 28-75 and now the 17-28, I currently have the Zhiyun Crane v2 (Not the Crane 2) and I don't have any issues with either those lenses and the gimbal is like 200g lighter than the Ronin SC. I was even using before getting the Tamron 17-28 the Canon 16-35 f4 with the Sigma MC11 adapter and it was actually working, just hitting the back of the gimbal like with your Tamron 28-75, but I was actually surprise on how much weight this Zhiyun can take for how light it is. I am travel youtuber and if I can save 100g on the backpack you can really be thankful of it after hiking around for 2 hours in the mountains with heavy equipment. So I would stay for the moment with the Zhiyun even though I like the new tech features from the Ronin-SC. Just in case you are interested, about to upload some field testing of the new Tamron 17-28 in Frankfurt ;) Cheers from Germany!
If you happy do not switch. Crane v2 is amazing and handles a lot of weight. Compared to Ronin SC it lacks features and is not that comfy but definitely gets the job done! And for the future with them camera you should get Ronin S not SC (if you ever thing about switching to DJI)
I returned my Ronin SC after using it for a week, coming from a Zhiyun crane V2 which in my opinion is fairly bare bones in comparison but the only difference is it works every. single. time. I found the SC would loose the horizon every 2nd or 3rd time of use. Not to mention the tedious balancing and calibration required in between switching lenses and camera bodies.(something you don't want to deal with during a wedding) Battery life is terrible to say the least. (I assume it's from the bluetooth always being on). You can also forget about using the gimbal without the app. Not going to happen. If you are planning on using this for weddings either wait until they make improvements with the firmware or try something else, you will save yourself a huge headache. If you're someone who is not time constricted during shoots, I would definitely give the Ronin SC a shot as the features of the gimbal are great when it works (minus the terrible battery life) which I think could be fixed with a firmware update in future.
I am tossing up between this and crane V2 - there has been some great love for the crane - can you tell me what is different in crane that does not require tedious balancing and calibration in between switching lenses - or adjusting on a zoom lens? Is it way faster on crane?
For sure my favorite gimbal ever Max! I shoot with light weight primes like 18mm batís or 24mm gm and it handles it so smooth. App works great. In love with it. Thanks for the recommendation Max
I have the S as well, it handles an 80D with no issue at all...now, I think that for anyone going with the APSC Sony bodies and pairing it with Tamron lenses, this is a clear choice.
@@kentao4 late but, the "pro" and the normal are basically the same thing. all the pro has is some extra accessories like a focus wheel, some cords and whatnot. Idk if it's really worth that price
Man! I was thinking on buying the Ronin S, but since the a6600 was launched + this video, I think I going to get the SC. Thanks from Venezuela. Best regards!
Michelet Diez I agree, for me the a6000 is a real game changer, I was thinking in the A7III (I know it is superior) among other things because of the battery, BUT now the smaller a6000 has the same battery, it is smaller, cheaper and for many projects it has the quality needed
Kake Garcia correct, and for me (I have my channel and make my own videos) a flip screen is a selling point, resin why the only full frame I could consider is the EOS R (which I would love to have but it is out of my budget with the lens I want!) 😁
I know that this Gimbal is designed for Mirrorless & DSLR but would it work with a camcorder such as the Sony AX100? I have not been able to get an answer to this anywhere.
Thanks for the video! I use this as you mentioned with the popular combo (A7III and Tamron 28-75). I did a whole day wedding but I turned it on and off all the time and had no issue with the battery. I did noticed that the motors do get warm. But all in all it is a great tool to have and especially without the tripod extension it does not add a lot of weight in the camera bag. Awesome intro tho

HI Max, Thanks for this review, really helpful. I used the SC at a wedding for the first time last week. It was a destination wedding in France (I’m in UK) so I was packing light for travel. I loved it but the battery died half way through the day (3 hours after start using it not solid use). I’m not sure if it was the fact that it was the first charge but I had not used it loads and right in the middle of the speeches it just stopped. I charged for a little while and then it ran well for the rest of the day (way more time). I think I will send back for a replacement to make sure I did not get a dud battery. IDIOT ALERT: Something for people to watch at weddings is..... I loved the locking mech for the arms and set it down with 2 of them locked while waiting for the first dance to keep it safe. As normal the couple & DJ gave me no warning and there was a rush to get ready for the dance.... yes you guessed it, I forgot to release the locks. (After the battery issue BTW). The footage is still usable actually if I cut of some of the sharp jolts in post... who knew only one access almost worked.. :-) Just a pointer for new users.... remember to take locks off.. :-) I loved using it and the active track was amazing for the couples session. Used A73 & 16-35/18-105 F4s

Hi Max - great video - I've been looking at a Ronin SC for my Fuji X-T4 and 16-55 lens. I'm currently using an OM4 and iPhone XR for car dealer videos, but I'm underwhelmed but the lack of range of motion of the OM4 and the frequent shakes despite the much-hyped new motors and magnetic mount. Should I use a smaller, lighter (maybe prime) lens for the Fuji for video with the Ronin SC, or would I be OK with the X-T4 (526 grams / 1.16 lbs) and the 16-55 (655 grams / 1.44 lbs)? Thanks for any advice.
Great review Max. I am glad you held onto so you had a very good point of reference on the changes DJI made. I have been renting one and it is quite good. Love the way it breaks apart.
Max I noticed this wasn’t the pro. Do you ever wish you bought that model? I bought both on sale before they sold out and will be returning one. Got the pro for 330 and regular model for 280. I shoot Sony as well but not sure it’s worth the price difference! Help! I’m no pro but really want to know the real usefulness of using the dial especially when not using the focus motor and track.
i just bought this gimbal, most surprising thing is hearing the original price on these things back in 2019 lol. i bought it because it was $279.99 that nearly 500 bucks price is crazzzzyyy
Hi Max! Do you still use the Ronin SC or you moved to something different like Weebill S perhaps? I have the same setup as yours, and trying to make up my mind, haha :)
We use the original Ronin-S with the Sony a7III every week, it’s an amazing setup to get cinematic footage, but it’s indeed quite heavy for all day works. Do you think it’s worth it getting this smaller Ronin-SC as well, if it is really noticeably lighter? Greetings from Lisbon
If you will have both - then yeah. But do not trade up Ronin S for Ronin SC. With your full frame camera it is not worth it. If you had any sony a6xxx camera then it would be better choice to go with SC. If it feels heavy to work full day try buying handle bar for twohanded use or just take more breaks or even work out more so it becomes easy weight hehe :DD
Would you recommend this over the weevil s? I’ve never had a gimbal and it’s mostly for vlogging. I have a Sony a6600 with the 16-55 lens and the 18-135 lens I also have the sigma 16mm f1.4
Joakim Tollerud - The GH5 works pretty well, and the native focus wheel can control the focus on lumix lenses straight out of the box by using the USB C cable. The Ronin Trigger button also works great.
This is the comptability list. Panasonic and GH5 is fine, there should also be a matching lens. I dont know why this is neccesarry or why it wont work with Olympus :( Anybody has experience with it? dl.djicdn.com/downloads/Ronin_SC/Ronin_SC_Camera_Compatibility_List_en.pdf
8:43. You talk about the a7iii with the tamron 28-75. Daaaang. That’s exactly what I use. That might be a dealbreaker for me. I used my buddy’s sc last week with an a6500 and a 24 to 105 and was sold. This has me 2nd guessing now.
hey Dustin bro, I got an SC with Sony A6400 plus 18-105mm f/4 G lens and no problem, only needed to apply the raiser underneath the cam body 😊 honestly I prefer to feel some real weight instead of lightweight so I can really feel the whole set and smooth those movements 😉 hope I could help ya 🙃
Thank you. Very helpful. For me,, I will likely just go with s so as not to Dicker with weights and compromise. Got a gmaster 16-35 and hope to add the 24-70
Can you mount just a phone to this gimble if you don’t want to mount your camera? Like, is there an accessory to do this? Probably not but just wondering? Thx 😊
When I double click the front button to recenter the gimbal, it is off aligned to the left. Does anyone know how to fix this. I have tried recalibrating several time but it does not fix the issue. Please help.
So I bought this gimbal and everything works as advertised but how does everyone carry it? This and my a7 iii still feels extremely heavy! I workout regularly and I’m in great shape but after 5 minutes this thing feels like an anvil.
DJI calls it a one handed gimbal but you really do need both hands or else you will get tired and cause jitters in the footage. But compared to the larger Ronin S, this gimbal is much lighter
Hello Max, thank you so much for this truly good review! I have just one question : do you recommend to buy the combo version? Do you really need to focus while you use this gimbal? I didn't see a combo version on you video clip... Thank you in advance!! Alex
Received mine two days ago. It's now boxed up for return and refund. It was faulty out of the box; the motor's either didn't engage or the whole unit threw a hissy fit and all three arms went nuts around their axis. I've done my due-diligence and contacted DJI first, everything they suggested (which wasn't much) did not work; removing and reattaching the battery, updating the firmware. I'd also like to point out that in my experience of DJI their customer service is sorely lacking, which doesn't fill you with confidence. Sure, if it was just a faulty unit I would have got a replacement as shit happens. But more than the fault the fit and finish of some of the parts is horrible: The indicator screw that sits on the side of the camera plate came out of the box with a thread at an angle of 45 degrees from the nut. The arm locks are tragic; they either don't move without a huge amount of force, or they slide very easily (something that makes no sense to me). The lock lever doesn't engage fully in it's slot. DJI said that it "Should be ok" (That's verbatim by the way), but I'm not trusting five grand's worth of equipment on a "Should". I'm looking elsewhere, regardless of the features this Gimbal provides.
PLEASE RESPOND: I have a Sony A7rii with a Sony GM 24-70mm. Front heavy. Looking at buying the new mounting plate, but I don't know how many counterweights I should buy with it. Can you please help me figure out the best option here. Thank you!!!
Hey Max, i tried balancing the 28-75 tamron with a7iii and it balances until i started to walk and it shakes like it has spasm. Did you encounter this? In addition, does your gimbal gets crazy too when you zoom in and out throwing the gimbal off balance?
I got the basic package and really regret not getting the pro. With manual only lenses the follow focus motor could REALLY be useful. I looked at prices online and it seems like it's cheaper to just buy the pro instead of buying the separate parts later on
Hi, Max. Thanks for your honest review. I would like to ask you whether there is an available gimble with the good service of this Ronin SC, that can fit a videocamera (mine is a Panasonic HC-X929EG-K)? I really look forward to an affirmative answer....! Thanks so much. Ana.
I'm sorry Max, but those settings are insane to me. Maybe the 17-28 is that much heavier that it evens it out but 50 on panning speed is pretty crazy even with the high deadband. But to each his own.
$79 for a battery is alot of money, the Weebill Lab is $349 right now and i get 6 hours of batrery life from it with my a7iii and tamron 28-75mm and 7 hours with my tamron 17-28. I bought 4 extra batteries for my weebill lab for $65. I know the mobil app is not very food for weebill lab but its still a great gimbal for its price. I'm thinking of getting an extra weebill lab because they lowered the price from $599 when i bought it in its release date.
The thing that really annoys me with the ronin sc is that when you slide your camera back to balance it, the roll axis hits it which makes it unusable, why couldn't they just added a bit more of a length?
I don't think you will have an issue unless you have a G master lens (I'm assuming you are shooting with sony), because if you go Canon, the lenses become heavy and you are pushing the weight limit of the gimbal.
I bought it and...hmmm...i can't seem to walk straight and hold it straight for a long time even with the trigger held down. must be user error but its annoying.

2krazyketos did you decide? cuz even im confused between the two
Important question: where do get those cool industrial decorative bulbs behind your couch??
Thanks! I just got it yesterday. Helpful info!
Max, will the SC work well with my GH5? And how do you focus on that thing?
Joakim Tollerud - The GH5 works pretty well, and the native focus wheel can control the focus on lumix lenses straight out of the box by using the USB C cable. The Ronin Trigger button also works great.
This is the comptability list. Panasonic and GH5 is fine, there should also be a matching lens. I dont know why this is neccesarry or why it wont work with Olympus :( Anybody has experience with it? dl.djicdn.com/downloads/Ronin_SC/Ronin_SC_Camera_Compatibility_List_en.pdf
You should compare it to the new Weebill S if you ever get the chance.
Great points thanks it’s down to 300 now
Thank you. Very helpful. For me,, I will likely just go with s so as not to Dicker with weights and compromise. Got a gmaster 16-35 and hope to add the 24-70
I just bought the Ronin SC. Why am I intimidated with the thought of using it?
Any recommendations for a gimbal which can be remotely controlled and take a Sony 600GM and camera?
Which Ronin S or Ronin SC would be best in filmmaking and which is always good?
Can I use this remote Control from application without connecting camera to Ronin via cable?
Can you mount just a phone to this gimble if you don’t want to mount your camera? Like, is there an accessory to do this? Probably not but just wondering? Thx 😊
I'm torn between the sc and moza aircross 2
Always wanted to buy gimbal, but with that price, how last long until the motor wear out?
Got it for $320 with the pro accessories box. Yay for sales.
Dji clearly lost the competition against the moza and zhiyun..
When I double click the front button to recenter the gimbal, it is off aligned to the left. Does anyone know how to fix this. I have tried recalibrating several time but it does not fix the issue. Please help.
How does it do with a Sigma 35mm art?
I'm looking elsewhere, regardless of the features this Gimbal provides.
super thanks for your Honest review Max!
can i balance a7III with 28 - 70 mm Zoom Lens perfectly? please suggest some a7III lens which supports rohin sc
Great video.
Does sony a6000 and sigma 30mm works on it or is it front heavy?
Do you have any setups for the Sony a6400 I have the feeling that my gimbal is not working properly
Great review
Very informative video! Thanks!
Can the Ronin S and SC batteries be interchanged?
Help! Great Video. Thank you.
PLEASE RESPOND: I have a Sony A7rii with a Sony GM 24-70mm. Front heavy. Looking at buying the new mounting plate, but I don't know how many counterweights I should buy with it. Can you please help me figure out the best option here. Thank you!!!
Great review as always, thanks for sharing 👍👍
hello sir.. can u make dji ronin sc tutorial how to shoot.. example.. can put a handphone at the gimbal or put at camera ?
Max great review!!
Hey Max, i tried balancing the 28-75 tamron with a7iii and it balances until i started to walk and it shakes like it has spasm. Did you encounter this? In addition, does your gimbal gets crazy too when you zoom in and out throwing the gimbal off balance?
would use the osmo pocket for paid gigs?
Hi max I got Fuji xt20 which gimbal is suitable for my camera thanks
Im planning to buy G lens 18-105mm ...
Is it possible to fit? Or cannot?
no
@@digitalavatar5699 are you sure??
@@mikzgearz Gmaster lens are heavy , please check the supported lens on their website
Really great review, just got mine a few weeks ago and will use it exploring China 🤗
Is combo (Pro) version really useful?? Yes or No?
I got the basic package and really regret not getting the pro. With manual only lenses the follow focus motor could REALLY be useful. I looked at prices online and it seems like it's cheaper to just buy the pro instead of buying the separate parts later on
@@GregMakesStuff Hi Greg, many thanks for your answer! I am going definitly buy the pro then!)) All the best!
Макис, подскажи влезел ли GH5 по размерам в этот стаб?
Hi, Max. Thanks for your honest review. I would like to ask you whether there is an available gimble with the good service of this Ronin SC, that can fit a videocamera (mine is a Panasonic HC-X929EG-K)? I really look forward to an affirmative answer....! Thanks so much. Ana.
hello. do you know how can I turn off the motor pause? it don't last 1 minute
I'm sorry Max, but those settings are insane to me. Maybe the 17-28 is that much heavier that it evens it out but 50 on panning speed is pretty crazy even with the high deadband. But to each his own.
how much does squarespace pay for that plug ?
Great review. I tried to mate this gimbal to my Fuji and it was tooooo light. Looking into the A73.
thanks for your review. will the Nikon Z6 & FTZ adapter fit into the Ronin SC?
$79 for a battery is alot of money, the Weebill Lab is $349 right now and i get 6 hours of batrery life from it with my a7iii and tamron 28-75mm and 7 hours with my tamron 17-28. I bought 4 extra batteries for my weebill lab for $65. I know the mobil app is not very food for weebill lab but its still a great gimbal for its price. I'm thinking of getting an extra weebill lab because they lowered the price from $599 when i bought it in its release date.
I return mine after few days :) and I brought zhyiun webill
The thing that really annoys me with the ronin sc is that when you slide your camera back to balance it, the roll axis hits it which makes it unusable, why couldn't they just added a bit more of a length?
I am planning to buy a gimbal for our production team. This one maybe we should pass on? That's the feeling I get even from the conclusion. :(
I don't think you will have an issue unless you have a G master lens (I'm assuming you are shooting with sony), because if you go Canon, the lenses become heavy and you are pushing the weight limit of the gimbal.
Michelet Diez Thank You for this info.
ricky v anytime mate!
I bought it and...hmmm...i can't seem to walk straight and hold it straight for a long time even with the trigger held down. must be user error but its annoying.
