This is how the train sequence finishes should you fail to stop it. Full sequence (which includes saving North Corel, here: • Final Fantasy VII - Sa...
Well, that was depressing. I suppose it's something which you don't see in many games these days, where if you screw up, you lose a lot, not only does an already battered town get mostly destroyed, you lose the Huge materia, cutting off a route to Master materia/Bahamut ZERO, you have to pay 50,000 gil to get the Ultima materia, and you are cut off from the Gold Saucer.
12 year old me with English as my second language didn't really understand the "simultaneous" instructions during that scene so I thought I failed. But the train actually stopped in the end. Interesting to see it actually crash.
I have never experienced this scene in the game before. So I fought All the people in the town would die. Which makes me really sad. 😢Thankfully, they didn't happened. But all the things you lose by losing to that mission. Is a lot. Thankfully, this is one of the easiest mission in the game if you ask me.😚
So that's what happens if you didn't stop on time. I was stressing out on the last few seconds but I did it.

EnforcerX71 Plus, I think it was never mentioned whether some people got killed or not, but I think there are casualties. It's sad.
Your not cut off from the Gold Saucer. It'll reopen once Cloud "finds" some even if you crash into North Corel.

The moment where the grandpa was right that another train will come soon.
Before GTA San Andreas' "Wrong Side of the Tracks", there's this Huge Materia chase on train.
Close shave on Ultima Materia though...
Haha that's friggen awesome.
Barret f*cked up
Apparently, if you don't catch up to the train in the first place, it doesn't crash into Corel at all.
I might try that
It doesn't, but from what I read in a guide, you will never be able to get the Ultima materia.
