50 Airframes Ordered: The State Of The Airbus A350F In 2024

  • In July 2021, Airbus announced that it would be offering a new purpose-built, next-generation freighter in the form of the A350F. The offering stands out as the only freighter to have a composite airframe - an airframe that promises to offer more range, volume, and payload than the popular 777F. With entry into service now delayed by a few months, the program has been slowly picking up orders. The jet is slightly behind its Boeing 777X rival in terms of sales but still projected to enter service earlier. So what is the latest news concerning the Airbus A350F?

The Airbus A350 has developed an envious reputation for quality, performance and efficiency, launching a freighter version of this relatively new but proven aircraft is almost a no brainer. This time around the Airbus seems to have the beating of the Boeing although with fewer orders thus far although 34 of the 777XF orders are from Qatar, possibly in a fit of pique during their disagreement with Airbus. If I was a betting man I would put money on Airbus with the A350F outselling Boeing’s 777XF.

I would say, it depends on the out come of Boeings troubles with the MAX. I know its a completely different aircraft but the management at Boeing has a remit, that wont change across aircraft. People are asking which aircraft is next? That implies the 777x and its freighter version. Personally, I would go for the 350F. I am not sure, what others might do, given Boeings bad image.

With those "undisclosed customer" airframes, I'm guessing Airbus is probably the customer.
Airbus has some very large aircraft to deliver components for manufacturing, which is good for large components like wings and sections of the body. But not every component needs such a large aircraft to deliver it. So this A350F could be used to deliver components that aren't so big and help the manufacturer with it's production.
