Portal 2, huh? Good obersvation! Such a robotic moves, it's clearly inspirated by Portal 2, and I know why - MvM has been developed since May 2011, so this model must be made in 2011, the same year Portal 2 was released. TF2 devs were intended to make analogue of faith plate from Portal 2 btw (as teleporter variant, but with shorter recharge rate), there's a whole chunk of code that has been simply copypasted from P2.
It looks like that "cut" Medic weapon possibly could have been an early model of the Overdose, considering the bundle also includes the Quick-Fix and the Solemn Vow (which completes the set). It's also worth noting that the Overdose and this "cut" weapon have a visible hose on the outside of the weapon, which none of the other syringe guns share.
I remember back when they rolled out cactuscanyon and asteroid for playtesting. When they ended up completely dropping both maps not long after, with hindsight we can see it did not bode well for the future of TF2
Unlikely, most community mapping communities have banned anything based on leaked content and valve would definitely not want to add something that uses it.

I feel like a lot of this content was cut because Valve thought it wasn't a good idea or they simply found a better alternative, as opposed to time/budget constraints. Like putting all the MvM upgrade UI in-world looks cool and all but it might've been a lot more cumbersome to use then a pop-up menu.
The best solution would have been to populate the automat with static models, have it animate when a player walks up, and then present said player with the upgrade UI. Not much different than the alternate resupply cabinets in DeGroot Keep, or that on in the ambulance in (I think) Snakewater.
Yeah. Valve is incredibly well known for scrapping entire sections and mechanics for a game if they're just plain bad or not up to snuff. There's entire parts of portal 2 that were just completely scrapped.

Im not sure how true that is in the current AAA Development cycles but cutting content is extremely common, sometimes games get completely scrapped or put back into the concept phase. Sometimes its because devs find out the game as a concept isnt fun, sometimes it can be for completely different reasons (ie Splatoon getting remade from the ground up due to leaks)
It's amazing how they really created a lvl 4 sentry but never released it. I remember watching all the videos and seeing fanart of what the lvl 4 sentry would be like. Gotta say I was not expecting that. This is the best leak to come out from TF2.

The MvM props were likely scrapped because they were too cumbersome to use compared to the in-game UI we have now. They were likely also scrapped because they were too subtle, causing players to miss them.

It seems like the props would have been used for player, weapons and canteens upgrades separately but the devs found it convoluted so they opted for a single upgrade station.
I like to think that the spinning cabinets were meant to hold all of your unlocked weapons aside from stock weapons. It would force you to buy back specific weapons to use depending on utility. Phlog for 450 Credits, Vaccinator for 375, ect.
2:363:54 BOSS_SENTRY and unused Upgrade Stations gives me Cyberpunk vibes while BOSS_BOT and BOSS_CART gives me country vibes If I would be Valve, I will use these models to create new MvM maps set in the theme of past and future. I don't know how I would call it but I think it's great idea.
All of this content we get to dig into just makes me so happy. I wish devs would more often just release the full uncompressed files for games like Dishonored. It would be amazing to see what that game could look like with full quality models and textures.
Precisely. I find it funny that people are finally realizing that what I had speculated about long before the repo leak happened was true. I had speculated that Valve wanted to use YM's Overdose from his Polycount contest submission back in 2010. Valve used the Schwaben-Charger medigun from YM's set in the TF2 Goes F2P trailer which is what led me to speculate that the current Overdose we have now is the 2nd iteration of the item. And this leak proved me right.
Also fun fact: Valve seemed to also use Gate Tanks for mvm_mannhattan as the Files for said Tank are still in the game and can be seen through for example the Hammer Editor

Now even if you are playing better than them, unless you can push it all the way back to the mid-point and then all the way further than where they pushed it, you will still loose the match. Essentially, you have to push it twice as far as the enemy did, just to not loose. In practice, once you get halfway into a round, whoever holds the cart has most likely won, but you still have to keep playing the whole rest of the round. Arguably Payload race is a *better* version of this mechanic, and still nobody plays PLR because regular payload is more fun.
Boss Cart looks like it was made in the Spore Vehicle creator, if you told me it was I wouldn't question it. Its guns are just slightly different from one of the weapons in Spore.

The "reverse mvm" one with those Boss bots reminds me of those SFM with those giant mechanical robots. I forgot what it's called but I believe it's well known enough that a lot of people will know what SFM I'm talking about. Ah, the giant robots from "bad sniper" is one. The other SFM had the mercs piloting them.

That syringe gun was the original design of the overdose, it was from the ploycount competition, and later valve added it, but redesigned the model with then whole set
It's funny to me that Valve tested the TOW gamemode, said "this is a bad idea" early in development, and never bothered with it again, while Blizzard said "surely this will be a fun gamemode, let's implement it as soon as possible" and pretty much everyone hates it because of how unbalanced it is

For real robot destruction was just better ctf and asteroid was better 2fort if you wanted to play the gamemode more seriously.
