Designing Medic Weapons From Randomly Generated Stats

- Опубликовано: 25 май 2021
- More random weapon design! Unlike a lot of other classes in TF2, Medic's weapons are unique to the game itself rather than being based on a real-life counterpart. This makes designing them more open-ended, but without a reference it can be hard. Designing weapons based on the generator's stats is a lot of fun, so let me know if you want to see more!

when you were looking for syringe gun models, one of the names was "The Blood Pressure" which sounds perfect for the knockback-inducing syringe gun you made
So the "Blutdruck?" Seems cool.
The classic sci-fi medigun name is, of course, the anti-death ray.
Nice hk pfp (off topic sorry :))

Hard to day it’s a mobility weapon since what is the difference? Even at 100% Uber I don’t notice any difference.
@@gameguin6113 I've kept pace with scouts using the overdose at full charge, so I guess it's useful for situations where you need to get to the front lines but there aren't any scouts to latch onto, or if your heal target dies and you need to fall back.

I translated "push-back" from English to German and apparently "zurückschieben", the most direct translation, refers more to the literal application of physical force while "aufschieben" means to postpone or put off, which could also refer to "delaying" your fall by using the weapon for mobility. I think The Zurückschieben is a good name for the second weapon but either could probably work for the concept. I really like the idea of a compressed air cannon for Medic's primary.

The bonesaw here actually combos *really* well with the syringe gun in this video. Like- I could see a bit of a trolldier style gameplay with this where the medic pulls out the syringe gun, fires it mid-air to get the appropriate distance, and then pulls this thing out and just starts whaling on enemies, healing himself and his allies in the process.
Imagine you shoot a medic with a rocket and instead of running he just surfs over to you with a bone saw and starts slashing

I've had this idea for a while for a medigun design, where you can use it as a weapon. You fire it at enemies, almost like a harpoon, suck the HP out of them and then fire it at your teammates to make them regain health.
what if its like, one of those vacuums that has the handheld part too, the vauum itself is on the medics back and the harpoon fires off the handheld part
I'd use it
Karma’s medik-gun
or in stead of a spear its a liposucktion head just to keep with the medical theme i'd call it the the lipolauncher and the uber charge would work lke the vaccinator exceplt it instead it gives an amount of dmg res to bullets and fire but it would have full immunity from melee attacks and explosives but the downside is it uses the same segmented uber bar as the vaccinator and the charge rate would be below the normal amount
I had a idea exactly like that, but for the sunflower from gardenwarfare and it was called the 'dark beam'
23:15 I wouldn't say the gauge showing uber is *too* much of a stretch, the rescue ranger's little graph thing gets flatter and flatter the less metal you have (which I mean, it is related to metal spending, but I suppose still)
I think that "the redistribution of health" would be perfect for a heavy lunchbox item, perhaps one that recharges as you do damage
Replying to a 2 year old comment, but maybe slow recharge, 100 self heal, but the health kit gives 5 seconds of 5 regen and you get 1% charge for every 50 damage you deal? That way if you do a little flanking you can still get a couple kills and heal up a bit
Having a syringe gun and a medigun both with fluid vials would probably be a particularly good opportunity to make them an item set, because you already have the vita-saw with a vial at the end too.
Names I came up with (I'm bad at names) In order of appearance:
1. Blitz Booster / Rauscheinator
2. The Knochenwerfer (Translates literally to "Bone Thrower" and is also a pun on knockback)
3. The Survivalist's Slicer
clever pun
Yes, this right here.
I was thinking maybe the sword could be something to do with grafting? Like taking a piece of flesh off an enemy and stitching it onto an ally, since that explains where the healing comes from kinda, and that kind of unsafe, irreverent malpractise fits medic.
@@uncreativehuman7595 That sounds actually *REALLY COOL*
@@uncreativehuman7595 I feel like you should save that for a different medic weapon also for name idea I like the name "The scrapped skin", "the skin stealer's slicer", and "The Gruesome Grafter"

The first one might actually be good for getting heavy to mid in competitive modes while also increasing the health of said heavy, but getting one hit by rockets and grenades kinda of counters that

The interesting design aspect about the first medigun before the changes was that the medic adapts to the movement speed of whoever he's healing; meaning the -40% movement speed while deployed penalty would only be active if you tried to use the ubercharge to escape.
Not to mention, having +300% movement speed lets you get a lot more value with your ubercharge as you can position yourself practically anywhere as any class; you would be incredibly vulnerable though as you'd lack any of the brawling power the other mediguns provide but being insanely fast could provide it's own sort of protection to both the medic and patient if their movement is coordinated enough.

A good name for Melee could be called: "Blutverteiler," or "blood disperser/distributer"

Not to say your designs are bad (they aren't), but I think what may help you with them is to decide what personality the weapon has, and try to incorporate that into your design.
The brass beast, a slow-yet-powerful minigun with a defense bonus, is much larger than its peers and has a brass skeleton protecting the internals in the event of an impact.
The Ambassador fires slower but can do more damage, and missing with it has consequences. As a result, it's huge and ornate and looks like it loses thousands of dollars in value if you drop it.
The double barrels for scout are made to do a lot more damage up close than the others. So they're stubbier and meaner, being much closer into Scout's frame. And they're the only scatterguns with butts, making the barrels look even shorter.

@@SynergyGaming112 not a bad guess but they don't seem to be touching the gun so it would seem odd for them to work like capacitors or super-capacitors.
Well, that image shown as inspiration makes it look very much like the sort of flanged glass structures you find as strain insulators (think the things on HV power lines)
With the bonesaw, you’re theoretically doing more damage in the same amount of time (3 stock vs 4 with the new one, but 50 instead of 65 is 200 vs 195) so technically it’s very slightly higher damage, but you have to hit one extra melee hit, and we all know how the melee system is never going to allow that lmao
Yo can we just appreciate that blue's art is getting better and better?
I love this series so much, I've never put much thought into weapon design before, and it really makes me appreciate good community designs, and I can't help but brainstorm some wacky weapons myself
Here's a concept for a medic primary: the stürmtrooper's sidearm, a smg which resembles a sterling submachine gun.
+hitscan
+alt fire: produces a small health pack
+20% more damage
-25% smaller clip
-25% less stored ammo
It's a healing tool for players who can't aim syringe guns.
Edit: the medic isn't able to use his own health packs.
And med packs take 25 secs to regen
nah i get the joke of the name but he needs an mp40 cause hes german 😩, sterlings were british
@@CanadianCat64 in my defense, 2 of the heavie's primaries are based on American guns, the soldier's stock rocket launcher is based on a Russian rpg 1 and the demoman has a German anti tank grenade as a melee. That's just tf2 logic.
@@Akunai_ I was thinking the health packs would make the gun an alternative to the crossbow by healing teammates, the regeneration of health packs would be slightly faster than the sandvich since they give less healing.
Maybe make it drop waffles and name it the Luftwaffle (like luftwaffe, the German air force) lol
Bro, put these in the game. I'd love to play around with these weapons. Each one looks like it would shake up the Medic playstyle in a really fun and wacky way.
For the melee I was thinking maybe the "Saw-shank Redemption" or something. Maybe because the medic would be sawing and shanking people, and redeeming health for him and his teammates as a reward? Idk, the name just popped in my head the moment I saw it.
I do quite like that
The Syringe Gun could also go by a couple of fun medicine-related terms.
- the Impeccable Recall, e.g. like a great memory or an excellent escape tool that forces you to a safer position
- the Receptionist's Rebuttal
- a play on words of the phrase "tour de force"
- Braniac Blowback
- the Push-pinner
- the House Call
- the Flightdeck Fletchette Flinger
- the Billowing Biohazard
- Preventative Measures
- Medicines Finale Frontieres (refers to the French name for Doctors without Borders, replacing "sans frontiers" with final in reference to the space it puts between you and target), alternatively, Doctor's Borders also works well for the same effect
For the melee I think a better name would be something like "the donator" referencing blood donation, since this is kinda what you are doing with it lol
The syringe gun should be called "the Luftwaffe"
Luftwerfer might be better.
@@badideagenerator2315 Your name says otherwise
When I first started the game a little over a year ago (keep in mind the only thing that brought me to the game was piemations so I knew nothing out the gameplay) I was just unlocking my first few weapons. And one of those first weapons was the Ubersaw, and I’m not lying to you, right when I saw it I realized how OP the Uber gain was in comparison to the slower swing speed, what I’m trying to say is that the Ubersaw is so good that even a starting player will know that it is basically stock. Also once I got it I haven’t used any other bonesaw since.
For the syringe gun, I thought a cool name might be the Prescribed Pushback, I think it feels more Medic-like and fitting of his character than Professional. Other than that, great weapon designs and drawings, especially with a mouse!
You missed the perfect opportunity to color the syringe gun like the rocket jumper...
Love These
The handguard on the melee makes sense as a medical object, it just makes it look "steady" for delicate movements
I think the movement speed penalty while deployed is a neat concept since you keep your targets movement speed
for first gun it would’ve been cool to have a guerrilla Vietnam style to tie in with the stats
Ooh, nice.
Combining a quicker Ubercharge rate with a slower heal rate sounds really spammable. Like, you are already getting more Uber from a single teammate because they take longer to heal and then you throw on that increase?
Side note: +125% is absolutely insane. I reckon you might have meant just 25% faster but the way it's worded it's actually more than double. That's nearly twice as big of a bonus as the Vaccinator's 67% and the Vaccinator gets an Uber penalty on any overhealed target whereas other Mediguns only get that starting at targets with over 142.5% of their base health.
Always remember: +100% is double. x100% is times one.
He did mean over double, he said somewhere in the video that he meant for it to be around 15 seconds instead of 40 to build charge
True, but consider that default Uber is crazy powerful and this is just an all around buff instead. It ain't gonna save your pocket from crockets, it ain't gonna let you push down a well coordinated team, because your pocket is still mortal and isn't on the level of instamurder offered by the Kritz.
Hey dude, I love your content. 100% would recommend doing a stream of making these because then you can get fan suggestions in real time!
I can imagine battle medics chasing players trying to charge their uber with the first one.
"I've never seen a medigun that has a bit of everything but nothing in particular"
Vaccinator: 😢
I love these videos
the rings on rayguns are a directional antenna. Basically, each ring is a ratio emitter and bigger rings reflect the rays forward while smaller rings pull the waves forward. The idea of a "raygun" was devised before we realized that " radio wave cancer launcher" was a bad idea.
The medi gun and the melee weapon are really cool. An idea that I think would be cool is for a medi gun with an ubercharge that creates a giant death area around him when used.
What about not changing any of the stats after you get through all the classes then paint what you want the weapon to look like
Then you get a rocket launcher like this
Pros:
+25 health
20% Reduced fall damage
Cons:
-40 health
+500% explosion damage vulnerability
-40% clip size
wouldn't +25% overheal make heavy survive a taunt kill?
Well if he was wearin fists of steel maybe
They could just increase taunt kill damage
A +300% movement speed buff would let a fully revved heavy run around faster than a max boost Baby Face scout. So I'd say that even with no resistances or damage buffs, that first medigun would be ridiculously OP.
The version you adapted was really interesting save for the massive healing penalty which would probably just leave medics going for crossbow shots every 5 seconds to try to offset an otherwise crippling downside.
For the serringe gun "the pushed-back"
Fitting the medical license that the med lost. This gun pushed somebody's skeleton off him
Make the gauge show how fast you're going
My favourite part of this series is seeing your art improve :)
The Best Defense surprisingly fits with Medic's character. It looks like a calvary cutlass out of WW1.
When I heard about the Professional Pushback gun concept, one of the first thing that sprung into my mind was Curly Brace's machine gun from Cave Story since you can float with it in the game
and looking at it, I can see it as a good fit for turning it into a syringe gun, having the round barrel having syringes inside and the big rectangle in front probably having some air compression mechanism of sorts
it would also be cool to have a Cave Story reference in TF2
Yes! I'm hyped for this series
9:20 It's beer. Canonically the medics main part for the healing recipy was suppose to be beer, haha german jokes and all. _make it beer yeeees_
The best defense description:
The best defense is a good offensive, and healing.
The Adrenalinerausch is just all three banners mixed together. Healing, speed, minicrits, resistances.
For what you were talking about with the little vial on top of your syringe gun concept, take a look at the medical injector in Killing Floor. After injecting either yourself or a teammate to heal, you do pop the vial on top out and back in. The tube leading to the syringe bits don't necessarily have to be external. Or if you really feel the external tube, make the end of the tub that connects to the vials attach to a solid point that won't move even if the vial itself is removed.
"I will not have my ambitions killed due to my inability to do something"
That's a really good message for life
My dumb suggestions:
-For the Syringe gun, I would suggest having the gauge/display showing either distance from the ground/altimeter (to help the medic know how far he is from the ground) or a clipsize indicator (because that would be more logical).
-For the Medigun, the glass container on the back is a little weird because all mediguns are connected by a tube to the Medic's backpack so having a liquid there is weird, maybe just have the glass go into the tube on its own?
-Lastly for the Bonesaw, I think a few names for it could be something to do with Soothsaying, either the Soothslayer or the Soothsaber, both fitting what you are doing, I dunno I just like the names. Also the design of the holy kinda looks like the Persian Persuader.
Maybe even something like the "Toothsaber" so being a pun on Soothsayer, dentist equipment and the obvious saber inspiration.
Aight, I need to say this. The trigger on the Professional’s Pushback is backwards. It’s a common mistake to make but a glaring one to anyone who handles actual firearms
5:30 the rings from the ray guns come from the gauss rifle's base. They serve as accelerators for the projectile they are firing.
before you added the "glass" at the back of the first weapon I was thinking that the medics hand would be on a handle embedded in the gun and he would be able to grab a handle coming out the side of the center piece. But you will did a pretty good job, I definitly liked it.
"the best of both world." could be a good name for the bonesaw. Its a reference to his line "The Healing is not as rewarding as the hurting!".
i remember the medigun design not being great but i went back and rewatched the video and its actually really good
i really like The Professional Pushback, personally.
The beginning medigun is like all the soldier banners within the medigun. Like, not a downright copy of them, but aspect. I like it.
the first medigun just feels like the quickfix's older brother that actually went to college
Glass rings are used as electrical insulators on power lines and stuff like that, particularily at the part where they're attached to a structure like a tower. The reason why they're used on ray guns so much is because they're supposed to be energy weapons.
Adrenaline Rush could be "Adrenochrome" which is a pun on the name of oxidized adrenaline and the chrome sheen on the gun.
I love pun names. Specifically, I think a good one for the Medigun would be "The Rausch Decision"
The pressure gage should do the sort of thing that the one on the Dragon’s Fury does, where it just sort of flips up to full when firing and back down when you stop. Just a little cosmetic detail.
Ik this vid was mad about a year ago and i think the names you gave each weapon was amazing, but anyway i like the idea of the first weapon being called an Adrenalinschrott/Adrenaschrott, which translates to an Andrenalin Junk/Junkie. I speak a fair bit of German so id thought id put this out even tho ik there is a very small chance you see this lol. Oh and for the other two, Pushback in German is Rückstoß, and The Best Defense, or put shortly as just Best Defense is Beste Verteidigung. :)
The Professional Pushback's trigger is inverted but I like the designs, great work!
4:47 using futuristic ref for the Medigun just made me think, those stats could go for the Medigun on the currently un-added Dr. Grordbort set for the Medic, the design is also somewhat similar to what you built
if Grordbort has the models & other stuff I guess we already have the stats for it lol
To explain, the rings in retro futuristic ray guns are the particle accelerator for the lasers
Idea for The Professional Pushback: it gives you an overload meter that charges on heal with your medigun or on hit, and when activated, you get mini-crits for 10 seconds, but you take more damage from everything when activated.
Except environmental damage
