To explain the ridiculous things that Big Boss can do in this game and others, I always thought of the entire game being in the perspective of his soldiers considering how much they idolize him. "A-And then the giant robot tried to crush Boss beneath it's frame but Boss just bench pressed it and threw it right back up!"
Fun fact if you have a PSP copy of the game and a PS3 copy you can transfer your saves between the two and play it on the go before coming home and then transferring your save back and playing it on console
Maybe the greatest PSP Title & one of the greatest PSP games of my youth, but I hate the gameplay & prefer it more on PS3 or Portable Ops. Portable Ops is the better PSP MGS for me haha!

So Johnny, I have a feeling that your plot synopsis of MGSV is going to VERRRY closely resemble this one. Phantom Pain has the same story issues with the final chapter not knowing how to end properly, is poorly paced, and is unfortunately a bit grindy with repetitive missions. At least it's not as bad as Peace Walker.
Peace Walker will always be my favourite MGS game. As much as I love MGS3 Peace Walker just has such a nostalgic feeling to it that I love it above all else. And in my opinion once you know the saga it's even more feeling ensuing than MGS3. MGS3 is about Naked Snake becoming Big Boss, Peace Walker is about Big Boss being a broken older man trying to move on then finally accepting what he is and the role he will play for decades to come, Not Big Boss, But the true successor the The Boss (even with how wrong he was about that), He becomes Snake. Just Snake. Mantling the legend but not accepting the title of Big Boss himself. This finishes with (in my opinion) MGS5 where he accepts the title of Big Boss to create Outer Heaven leading into MGS2.
You didn't mention the Date With Paz mission. A grown man like Big Boss taking what he thinks is a 12 year old girl on a date where she actually gets to take most of her clothes off and they end up inside a box doing god knows what! That's got to be the weirdest (and most unsettling) part of the franchise... Man you had EVA, what the hell happened to you?
The side ops ranges from canon to non canon stuff like with the monster hunter side op. It's obvious the date with paz/kaz missions are non canon joke missions
What I love about Johnny's mgs reviews is that he's probably the least pretentious and least overly analytical of these games. It's honestly a breath of fresh air to hear a game reviewer talk about these games without pretending he met Kojima personally and knows every unnecessary detail about the lore or meaning lol

So, apparently Snake can't convince his superiors that the incoming transmission is fake... but the transmission CUTTING OUT is enough? This is the Cold Fucking War! A large part of nuclear strategy in that era was, "if you can't contact us, assume we have been destroyed in a first strike - you have permission to open the classified target lists and fire back." The transmission going dead would have immediately triggered either a retaliatory strike, or at best, the Moscow-Washington Hotline would be invoked to sort the matter out. In no way would the higher ups have assumed the transmission STOPPING meant false alarm. I'm gonna assume Johnny skipped over some details there, because if he didn't, then this might be the worst little misstep I've ever seen in a Metal Gear game (and there have been a LOT in the post-MGS3 lineup).

+SuperFusionAJ93 meh, by then you should have the parasite suit and might have grinded some parasite armor, equip those, and you can do all the objectives and S rank it :D But if you're doing it traditionally and not caring for side objectives... Take the sniper approach, fire and relocate, it saved me from ragequitting MGSV alltogether

I find it super funny that the Monster Hunter crossover missions from this game are what inspired the Monster Hunter movie, in that it's also about military soldiers using guns to take down the monsters. Like, this is such an out-of-pocket thing to use as inspiration for a theatrical fucking movie, especially a Monster Hunter movie.
11:37 you don't actually need to grind for those parts, it's actually easy to get them, as well as levelling up your mother base, you'll probably be recruiting more and more soldiers throughout the missions, side ops, and receiving volunteers, but I agree with, this part was really unnecessary for the plot, and the franchise would be less chaotic without it

It WOULD have if he did not do portable ops first cause this game takes a lot from that one so :P but if he did not do that then YES it probly would have been almost 30 mins long in the gameplay alone cause even without portable ops the story is.....as he said rather simple and short as long as you know what you are doing but the gameplay can be also short if not a bit drawn out at points so at most it would have taken 25 mins if he did not include portable ops cause he would need to go in depth a bit in the gameplay

Johnny, you said you ran out of ammo during the peace Walker fight. No offense, but besides the sneaking suit, you could have worn the battle suit for a 3rd weapon, upgraded your launchers, and maybe brought better weapons than the base model of the m16 and the FM. I know you have to play these fast to get a review out, but you can upgrade your launchers by the peace Walker fight to at least r2 or r3, along with the rest of your weapons.
Ah Peace Walker. The game that reminds me that I still need to complete more repetitive vehicle battles and find a way to defeat Gear Rex on Mother Base. And all I do now is just play Versus Ops.
God, the Gear Rex fight on mother base. Fuck. I never thought MGS would have a raid boss, but there that fucker is, taking out two maxed rations in a single hit.
Just want to say though, Strangelove was not a "close friend" of the Boss; she was a one time lesbian lover of hers. It may not be too apparent in Peace Walker, but the audio tapes from both MGS V installments make it as clear as possible that she and the Boss had a thing at some point.
Hey Johnny, i hate to be that guy but i'm gonna be that guy The "Monster Hunter Dragons" are technically Wyverns, the only real dragons in the games are Kushala Daora, the Fatalis trio, Alatreon, and Lao Shan Lung. Not counting all the other "Elder Dragons" that are not actually dragons. Tigrex and Rathalos are Flying Wyverns not dragons so yeah. Love ur vids btw :)

Peacewalker wouldn’t let you crawl because of the controlls of the PSP. The D pad is above the single analogue stick and you had to hold D-Down to lie on the floor
Because the cockpit becomes very heated, and has to be filled with water to cool down. Ever tried bathing while fully clothed? It would feel very uncomfortable.

MPO was more than just filler. It detailed many of the core elements that were just as important to the overall plot as MPW.

It WOULD have if he did not do portable ops first cause this game takes a lot from that one so :P but if he did not do that then YES it probly would have been almost 30 mins long in the gameplay alone cause even without portable ops the story is.....as he said rather simple and short as long as you know what you are doing but the gameplay can be also short if not a bit drawn out at points so at most it would have taken 25 mins if he did not include portable ops cause he would need to go in depth a bit in the gameplay
since MG5 is next, i hope to see the review in 2-3 months lol

Johnny, you said you ran out of ammo during the peace Walker fight. No offense, but besides the sneaking suit, you could have worn the battle suit for a 3rd weapon, upgraded your launchers, and maybe brought better weapons than the base model of the m16 and the FM. I know you have to play these fast to get a review out, but you can upgrade your launchers by the peace Walker fight to at least r2 or r3, along with the rest of your weapons.

Ah Peace Walker. The game that reminds me that I still need to complete more repetitive vehicle battles and find a way to defeat Gear Rex on Mother Base. And all I do now is just play Versus Ops.

Just want to say though, Strangelove was not a "close friend" of the Boss; she was a one time lesbian lover of hers. It may not be too apparent in Peace Walker, but the audio tapes from both MGS V installments make it as clear as possible that she and the Boss had a thing at some point.
OK, fighting a Tigrex and a Rathalos in a MGS game is good fan service to Capcom fans

The "Monster Hunter Dragons" are technically Wyverns, the only real dragons in the games are Kushala Daora, the Fatalis trio, Alatreon, and Lao Shan Lung. Not counting all the other "Elder Dragons" that are not actually dragons. Tigrex and Rathalos are Flying Wyverns not dragons so yeah. Love ur vids btw :)

Because the cockpit becomes very heated, and has to be filled with water to cool down. Ever tried bathing while fully clothed? It would feel very uncomfortable.

I guess this also explains why both Liquid and Solid are shirtless during their final fist fight at the end of MGS1...
