LADY MARMALADE is an iconic hit from La Belle, Patti's group before she went solo. They released their first album in 1966. At least one of their outfits are in the African American history museum in DC. Their style influenced Madonna and Lady Gaga. Patti Labelle has a loooong career.
Yes, I'm aware. They changed their name to LaBelle, dropped their first album as LaBelle in 1966 and I believe that was the last group she was in before she went solo, correct? Thank you for posting the additional info.@@patgorden5002
You have to react to her group titled Labelle. They started out in the 60s as Patti Labelle and The Bluebells before becoming Labelle. Their biggest hit was Lade Marmalade but another great song by them was towards the end of the group called Isn't It A Shame. Another Patti single to check out is from a James Bond movie, the closing song, If You Asked Me To and a song Yo Mister, written and produced by Prince.
Love Ms. Patti. She and Chaka Khan had 2 if the most powerful voices I'd ever heard - then Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston burst on the scene. But these veteran R&B icons were still serving up pop songs in the 80s and showing the younger ladies how it's done! Another pop dance tune by Ms Patti is Stir It Up from the Beverly Hills Cop soundtrack (and my personal fave by her). I think you guys will love it.
When I was a teenager (who LOVED music), I saw Miss Patti perform "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" on a television show that was recorded live. O.M.G., y'all. You probably won't even believe me, but I literally fell out of my chair onto the FLOOR it was so good. LOL. I wish I (and you) could find that video somewhere on RUclips & react.
Oh I believe you. I 've seen several times in concert singing that. She converted one of my best friends in a Patti LaBelle stan singing that in concert. I've always been a Patti LaBelle stan.
LIVING LEGEND, Ms. Patti 'BADASS ' Labelle, in her prime (in my opinion, all the way into her mid 60's) was an UNTOUCHABLE VOCAL BEAST. You will NEVER find ANY singer, male/female, in any wra, who comes close to Patti Labelle. She not only hears the music, she FEELS the music. TRULY ONE OF A KIND!!
LaBelle has a huge 70s hit called "Lady Marmalade". It was covered by a female supergroup of Pink, Mya, Lil' Kim, and Christina Aguilera. You need to check it out on a female Friday.
Patti has had an AMAZING career! Form the late 60's to the 80's she changed up her styles, but That Voice stays the same! If you haven't heard "Lady Marmalade" with her old group Labelle, you need it!!
You guys need to check out the Patti Labelle of the 1970s with the sound of her group Labelle. Let’s start with “Lady Marmalade”, “What Can I Do For You” or “Isn’t It A Shame”. Just to mention a few. They had so much going on back then. Labelle was a powerhouse with all three members shining.
Patti is a legend. She was recently performing and threw up on stage, looked very sick...gets escorted out for about 5-10 minutes and next thing you know she's back out there joking and dancing like nothing ever happened. Mind you, she's almost 80 years old....truly an unstoppable force.
I remember this song being played in my house on the weekends. My mom bought the cassette tape. I remember we wore this tape out! LOL! Love going down memory lane.
Since you have just watched The Wizard of Oz and now know the iconic song Somewhere over the Rainbow, you MUST hear Patti Labelle's version of it, it is one of the most amazing live singing you will ever hear. There are several videos of her doing it, but the Patti Labelle-Somewhere over the Rainbow (Official Music Video) is the one you want. Please react to it, you will be jumping out of your seats! Thank you for the great reactions.
"Winner in you" is a beautiful song. And the Sound track from the movie "Waiting to exhale" so many great songs on that album. Also, Jennifer Holiday and Miki Howard are great finds.

No no no. Stop. I see people comment garbage about listening to these horrible singers cover other songs. Stop. Aretha Franklin was just as bad and I see comments about her covering other music. These women have ZERO talent and sound awful.
I worked with Patti Labelle in the Eighties for an ABC special with Placido Domingo. She was truly amazing. The best part was that she was a bad lip syncher, so in an era when most stars were lip synching their performances for music videos, Patti Labelle had to sing her part every single time. I cannot describe the power of hearing her voice live, but I will never forget it.
It's the 80s, mums cooking breakfast, radio is on and Patti is blasting her new attitude!!! That's when I fell in love with music, Patti was the beginning of my music life and I'm so lucky to have seen her live! Thank you for this, it melted my heart

A real Women's Anthem! It just pumps you up, makes you want to dance around and step over all the negativity on your way to meet and own yourself. Stir It Up is and 80's upbeat song such as this. I liked it even better. Patti has a huge amount of treasures to check out. Some popular and some gospel. Over the Rainbow blew us out of the water with her vocal acrobatics. Then there's: Lady Marmalade; You Are My Friend; I Think About You; Winner In You; On My Own (with Michael McDonald); If You Asked Me To; Somebody Loves You Baby; The Right Kind of Lover; When You've Been Blessed; You'll Never Walk Alone; If Only You Knew; Yo Mister...... She is one of those artists that live recordings are usually out of this world. Not that her studio offerings are extraordinary. She just channels the energy from the audience and takes us sailing into a different dimension when she's allowed free reign. God gifted for sure!
Another good Ms Patty choice is "if you asked me to" and "if only you knew" so danggg good ❤ you cant go wrong with Ms Patty no matter what song you choose 🏆👑 👏👏👏👏👑🏆
