En Vogue was definitely one of the best R&B groups from the 90's. They took the old school girl group vibes of The Supremes and updated it to the New Jack Swing sound that was popular at the time. Always loved their vocal harmonies and they were the perfect blend of classy and sexy. You guys gotta do "Hold On" or "Giving Him Something He Can Feel" next!
On their debut album, "Hold On" starts with them singing the first verse of the Smokey Robinson and the Miracles song, made famous by The Jackson 5, "Who's Lovin' You" acapella.
En Vogue was one of the standout R&B acts of the 90s. Unbelievably, they never hit #1 on the Hot 100 Chart... but they did hit #2 THREE times... with this song, as well as "Hold On" (their debut single) and "Don't Let Go (Love)". They also hit #3 with "Whatta Man" (where they duetted with Salt-N-Pepa), #6 with "Giving Him Something He Can Feel" and #8 with "Free Your Mind". So... yeah, you've got a lot of great stuff to choose from.
FINALLY!!!! All four of these women have amazing voices. Next up, do "Free Your Mind." And play the Official Video. A truly dynamic and great performance by them. Hands down better than Destiny's Child, TLC, etc.
For real. Just like “Hold on” did as the first single on their debut album. That a cappella intro where people think they know who the lead is and what kinda group this is…and then that sick beat drop before a whole other lead singer takes over… just epic!
Love these women! Strong vocals and dynamite songs. This song is awesome! Next song should be "Free Your Mind". That song has such importance in moving generations forward racially.
En Vogue was fire and they could sing circles around Destiny’s Child. Good golly wow, I was mad in love with Dawn back in the day… You guys need to do Don’t Let Go, Whatta Man, Giving Him Something He Can Feel, and Hold On. Oh, and hold on to your hats for Free Your Mind.
FINALLY!! En Vogue! They all sing lead and they all can tear it up! Get ready to go down a rabbit hole of great music…. Don’t let Go Hold On Giving Him Something He Can Feel Free Your Mind
En Vogue and TLC were my favorite Girl Groups of the 90's. En Vogue is the best female vocal group ever created, there is no lead, but the ladies are all so strong vocally they each take turns in the spotlight.
Add salt n pepa for the trifecta. LOVED all three of these groups so much (as a middle schooler in a small town in the Midwest) they were fire and crossed all genres. I loved En Vogue the most though not gunna lie, so sassy and such great voices. They rocked and don’t get the respect they should have now.

They basically threw down with “Hold on” in early 1990 and shaped what the entire decade would look like - especially for Black female artists and groups. Just legends.
These ladies had some bangers back in the day. Free Your Mind is epic, but for me, Don't Let Go just emphasizes their individual talents so well along with their harmonies.
All 4 of these girls can absolutely SANG. Even as a younger boy when they were doing this I knew to put some respect on their name. They've always been one of my absolute favorite girl groups. Glad you discovered them.
En Vogue was the BEST female group!!! Of course their record company and management screwed them. So after having a ton of hits they had little to show for it. They were HUGE! Thanks, you two!!❤❤❤😊😊😊
@@themajicman745 I'll put En Vogue up against ANY girl group..."before", and after the 90's. VOCALLY they are practically unmatched. Other groups may have had better songs. You may prefer other groups...that don't make them better.
They were a great band, but as far as saying the best... I don't think they were as good as The Supremes, The Bangles, The Ronettes, The Go-Go's, The Pointer Sisters or The Shirelles
Every major girl group of the 90s was inspired by En Vogue… Beyoncé and Destiny’s child, TLC, SWV all talk really openly about what the group meant to them. There really has never been another group like the, either…a crazy cool mix of genres, sick vocals (all 4 can and do sing lead), killer choreography, badass videos (they’ve won the most MTV music video awards in history, and Janet Jackson picked the “Free your mind” vid as one of the best ever), and their fashion was so iconic gowns are literally on show at the Smithsonian Museum. Other suggestions that show their range, musically and visually: “Free your mind”, “Hold on” (their breakout hit), “Don’t let go”, “Runaway love”, “Giving him something he can feel”, “Lies”, “Whatever”, “Too gone, too long”, “Riddle”, and “Rocket”.
I took a human sexuality class in university and we would go into class singing “let’s talk about sex” all the time. The prof would laugh at us all but his class was fun.
"EN VOGUE" set the bar, for all other girl groups that followed. The song that put them on the charts was " HOLD ON TO YOUR LOVE"! Not only were they amazing, talented, singers , writers and GORGEOUS! They werec also fashionistas, and put" bodycon" dresses on the map! They did an awesome collab with Salt and Pepper on the song " What A Man". Another hidden fact, the genius, grammy award-winning, gospel producer, director, composer and professor DONALD LAWRENCE, was their vocal coach! Another great song is " "FREE YOUR MIND"
En Vogue was THE girl group! They have an incredible catalog of hits. Check out Don’t Let Go, Free Your Mind, Giving Him Something He Can Feel, Hold On, and Whatta Man with Salt n Pepa. Absolute fire all around ❤🔥
En Vogue had the best vocals of any female group EVER!! I saw them in concert quite a few times and they sound amazing live. Checkout "Hold On" "Free Your Mind" "Giving Him Something He Can Feel" (an Aretha cover).
For the love of god, do "don't let go (love)" ... from the moment I first heard that song, it changed the way I would judge all female bands forever! Their angelic harmonies set a new standard that few bands have ever matched.
Their first hit was "Hold On" from 1990, and they continued to have hits through the mid-nineties. Their look echoed the original girl groups of the early 1960s (sixties revival was a big fashion trend in the early nineties), and the sound of that acapella "breakdown" toward the end of this song really brought to mind female big band vocalists of the 1940s like the Andrews Sisters.
I still remember "Hold On" and "Vision of Love" (Mariah Carey's debut) duking it out on MTV's Weekly Top 10 videos for a few weeks in the summer of 1990! En Vogue and Mariah both broke into the scene that year and gave women vocals a HUGE step up!
This group had four lead singers. They had such a unique sound. They were on several TV shows as guest stars, and they did background vocals on Salt N Pepa's What A Man and Hangin With Mr. Cooper. They were also on In Living Color. But like many of the 90's girl groups, they broke up over money. Dawn Robinson left the group for a bit and became part of Lucy Pearl with the Tony Tone Toni front man. They were a threesome for a while, and then reunited for a BET tribute to HIP HOP thing. Now there are two factions with two members of the four.
Amazing song & group!!! The first time I heard this song, the DJ introduced it & said "Just wait for the part after the guy says 'and now it's time for breakdown.' " I can't believe that was 31 years ago. Time is flying!!! I'm going to recommend their first hit, "Hold On." They actually have a nice collection of great hit songs. You should definitely go down this rabbit hole.
It pisses me off that this group has lost two of it's original founding members Dawn Robinson and Maxine Jones, who sang lead on this song. This original foursome will always be the real En Vogue forever.

Come on y'all. "Hold On" has to be next. That's the song that put them on the map and showed the world what they were capable of. The harmonies in the intro alone blows everyone out of the water!
They rocked the early 90's with their talent, amazing singers and beautiful to boot, so much attitude when they performed, they were kinda like The Supremes of their era.
I think you’ll enjoy this rabbit hole…this group had a ton of hits in the 90s…they first hit it big in 1990 and set the tone for rest of the decade…they were the prototype for the girl groups that followed them in the 90s and 00s…
I've been waiting for you to get around to En Vogue; a rabbit hole worth going down. So many great songs already listed so I won't repeat, but one of my favorites is "Giving Him Something He Can Feel".
Been waiting soooo long for this! I'm a hair metal 80s girl, but I can appreciate good music and great voices of other genres, and these girls can SING! Honestly, I can't think of a bad single that they had. All are great vocals with catchy choruses. It's a good rabbit hole to head down.
They're a lot of songs by En Vogue you have to hear. One of my personal favorite is "Hold On." You'll love the harmonizing in the beginning of the song.
En Vogue are great and are still out there! Free Your Mind, Giving Him Something He Can Feel, Hold On or Whatta Man featuring Salt n Pepa are more of their bangers ❤
En Vogue is the best female vocal group since the Supremes and the Emotions, and as far as the individual singing talent of each singer (Cindy, Maxine, Dawn and Terry), they might be the greatest female vocal group ever.
Love these women! Such great vocals and dance moves and beautiful! Other groups you should hear is Jade, SWV, Changing Faces and Groove Theory, Brandy, HI Five, H Town, Jodeci, Mint Condition, Next, Shai, Toni Braxton, Xscape, Blackstreet
I am glad you came across En Vogue, this was a very popular group and a good one for you to know. "Hold On to Your Love" is a great song of theirs you might try.
En Vogue! Every one is going to suggest “Free Your Mind” but “Giving Him Something He Can Feel” is a call back to the era of the classic female groups like the Supremes. Oh, and the video… 🔥
En Vogue definitely helped bring back the girl groups that had all but disappeared in the mid-80s. With Hip-Hop taking over they did a good job of blending Hip-Hop samples with R&B and vintage harmonies. Their look was based on the Supremes and they even re-did an Aretha Franklin song from the original "Sparkle" soundtrack called "Giving Him Something He Can Feel" which was their next single after this. They laid the path down for the next wave of girl groups that were Hip-Hop flavored.
The a capella section is my favorite part of this song. You can really hear their gorgeous harmonies, and then when the drums drop back in, it's such a great addition to their voices!
This is a great group and song, thanks for reminding us of it. “Oooh, bop!” And now it’s time for a breakdown…😂 They had girl-group harmonies, like ‘40s Andrews Sisters mixed with ‘60s Supremes? Then R&B w/a ‘90s funky hip-hop beat and sound, but the best acts usually defy genres. Boy, could they hit all the notes and the lyrics, too. Sorry/not sorry, you won’t find anything this good in the Top Ten today. These ladies could not just sing and dance, they make me feel sassy and stronger just for hearing/seeing it. Yes-suh!🤣
These are my girls! I have all of their music on CDs still. If you haven't seen the movie Set it off, YOU'VE GOT TO WATCH IT! It features the song Don't Let Go (Love) and it's so good! En Vogue has several really great songs. I can't wait for you guys to explore them more. Free Your Mind is a total anthem and Giving him something he can feel is such a sexy song and video. It's another that's not to be missed.
They set the bar so high never to be reached. If you want to get a small glimpse of their range, then please reaction to their single "Hold On" which will be frequently mentioned in the comments. I would say more but I don't want to give it away. This is on playlist where is will remain. I was shocked when I saw you were reacting to it; awesome and thanks!
Yes!!! Brings me back to 3rd grade 😂 You'll love "Love (Don't Let Go)," "Whatta Man" with Salt N Pepa, "Giving Him Something He Can Feel," and "Free Your Mind"
The song is a great jam. These four ladies singing and dancing over the loop of James Brown's hit THE PAYBACK is all you need to get up and join in. Sassy vocals. Great style. Harmonies that won't quit. Give us more !! Give us more !! How about C+C Music Factory and their song EVERYBODYDANCE ?
"Hold on" "Free your Mind" "Whatta Man" "Giving him something he can feel." The list goes on. Best girl group since The Supremes. Also 3LW (Three Little Women) featured 2 of the girls that made if The Cheetah Girls. Adrienne and Kely. I believe that was their names. They formed Cheetah Girls along with Raven Simone and Sabrina Carpenter for 2 Disney movies and albums.
Don’t Let Go from the movie Set it off, Hold On and Free Your Mind are my favorites.. En Vogue and TLC were around the same time and both groups were burning up the charts throughout the 90s
Jay & Amber, you'll love their "Free Your Mind" and "Giving Him Something He Can Feel" !!

Been waiting soooo long for this! I'm a hair metal 80s girl, but I can appreciate good music and great voices of other genres, and these girls can SING! Honestly, I can't think of a bad single that they had. All are great vocals with catchy choruses. It's a good rabbit hole to head down.
En Vogue were totally bad ass!! Go all the way down the rabbit hole!!
Yes!!! En Vogue were everything! A couple of them still sing and they sound just as amazing 30 years later.
Something He Can Feel is another amazing song by En Vogue
En Vogue - Free Your Mind (Official Music Video) [HD]
Loved the song in the movie "The Cowboy Way"
'Giving him something he can feel' is a great one!! and looking forward to their reaction
They're a lot of songs by En Vogue you have to hear. One of my personal favorite is "Hold On." You'll love the harmonizing in the beginning of the song.
"Hold On To Your Love"
"FREE YOUR MIND"
"Don't Let Go"
"Whatta Man" with salt n pepa
Free your mind is an anthem!
En Vogue are great and are still out there! Free Your Mind, Giving Him Something He Can Feel, Hold On or Whatta Man featuring Salt n Pepa are more of their bangers ❤
GOOD early 90's jam! I'd recommend "Free Your Mind" by En Vogue as well!
En Vogue was just amazing! Beautiful and extremely talented.
"Giving him something he can feel." One of their bests
Yeeees!!! Finally 😅So so glad you all got to these gorgeous amazing ladies!!!
Must hear more En Vogue!!!
Thank you all xo
Thank you for the reminder of how amazing this song is! Their voices and harmonies are 🔥 - and definitely giving Supremes vibes in the video 🤩
You forgot TLC
@@RobertoSantana61 I didn't include them since Amber mentioned TLC but of course they definitely need to be reacted to
Did you mean Groove Theory?
@@DOUBLECW yes don't know why I put group. Gonna fix that
@@powerslave9365 - Specially the song "Waterfalls", an all time classic. Remember The Jets? Not a girl band, but the lead singer is a girl.
I am glad you came across En Vogue, this was a very popular group and a good one for you to know. "Hold On to Your Love" is a great song of theirs you might try.
"Free Your Mind",and "Don't Let Go (Love)" are other sings by these ladies', that I think you'll really enjoy.
Yes! “Free Your Mind” is a MUST, as well as “Whatta Man” with En Vogue and Salt ‘n Peppa
Oh man, does this bring back memories!!! Love singing along to this and so many more. So much sass!!!
Martha Wash has some pipes!! Love it!!
“Free Your Mind” is a great En Vogue rocker, with a terrific message.
Whoa........I loved these women! They got the vocals, the sexiness, the attitude and the everything.
Don’t Let Go from the movie Set it off, Hold On and Free Your Mind are my favorites.. En Vogue and TLC were around the same time and both groups were burning up the charts throughout the 90s
Oh, now. I had no idea you wouldn't know them! Let the amazement begin.
