@@ToniMcGinty yes, you are correct that was a big part of it. Dawn Robinson has stated in numerous interviews that En Vogue's Management had EV's members sign a lengthy, convoluted contract in which it was buried in the fine print that the 4 (original) members would get $0.02 each per record. When this song came out I asked my friend who worked at a rock station in my area. Why don't you play this song or even Michael Jackson's Dirty Diana. They're both great rock songs. His answer was correct and it was it's the Public's perception of the artist is why we don't play those songs. Kind of sad isn't it. Great music not getting played. It's just a thought from an old guy. Always enjoy your show thanks.

Next one must be "Giving Him Something He Can Feel". They started around 1989; there were several hot females' groups; a couple you've already reacted to: SWV, Brownstone, Xscape to name a few.
This song blew everyone away from the get-go. EnVogue was badass. Guys used to just gape at the video screen in clubs and bars when this played. Another incredible song with amazing meaning is Colors by the Black Pumas. Different style, but one of my favorite songs.

Such an epic song when it came out. Still holds up! These ladies always bring it! P.S. they are Cindy, Dawn, Terry & Maxine (singing in that order on this track)
They are by far, the best group of girl singers in my lifetime. They could do no wrong. I usually listen to punk/ new wave. But I was like" Oooo "Free Your Mind" when I saw that you'd covered this. I don't think I knew anyone that didn't dig these ladies.
They were the women of THE 90S! Before Destiny's Child & after of the Supreme. They were spectacular for listening to them! Thank u for ur time & reactions! ❤
Great reaction, Jay and Amber. En Vogue were a great band, some of their tracks which I recommend, ''My Lovin'", "Hold On", "Don't Let Go", "Whatta Man", "Give Him Something He Can Feel", "Whatever", there are other tracks but these are good ones to start with.
I remember in one interview En Vogue said they didn't know anything about rock music. But boy, they really rocked this one. Btw, I believe this song was inspired in the wake of the LA riots following the police brutal attack on Rodney King back in the early 90s.
En Vogue were one of the most underrated acts of all time. I say this unironically.. I think a case could be made they were the greatest girl group of them all. Not in number of hits or fame but just sheer energy and talent.
First of all, that first line in the song... I wrote a song about it, wanna hear it, here it go. That comes from the television show (In living color). Second, the phrase (Free your mind and your ass will follow) comes from a George Clinton and Funkadelic song.
TLC is another girl group from this era, and at the same level as En Vogue both talent wise and level of success. Check out "Waterfalls" (The song spent seven weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1995)
I think the 1st really popular girl group is The Andrews Sisters in the 1940s. They appeared in a lot of movies. En Vogue even did one of their songs called "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" on their debut album, except En Vogue's version is called "Hip Hop Bugle Boy". Another popular girl group is The Shirelles from the early 1960s. There were a little before The Supremes made it big. Also check out the female gospel groups The Caravans & The Clark Sisters.
I remember hearing this when I was about 10! Blew my mind! (I was a 90's kid)crank this up everytime I hear it. If you haven't heard much of Salt N Pepa or TLC you should check them out too! Definitely some bangers!
"HOLD ON" "WHATTA MIGHTY GOOD GOOD MAN" "DON'T LET GO" "GIVING HIM SOMETHING HE CAN FEEL" love en vogue's music!!! thanks a lot JORDAN&AMBER (jay) ❤❤❤❤❤
“Giving Him Something He Can Feel” must be your next En Vogue song… they give honor to the female R&B groups before them, like Diana Ross and the Supremes. And whew! So sexy, strong harmonies! ❤️
I am so glad you found these guys. They are such great empowered women. Their music and harmonies are some of the best in history and they are a direct link to Destinys child and also another great band TLC next song you should do you can pick if you want to go a little slower “Don’t let go “ and super upbeat. You gotta go with “what a man “with salt n peppa
En Vogue Cindy, Dawn, Terry and Maxine are my favourite girl group of all time. Nobody can touch them vocally. Each girl a lead singer, eash girl drop dead gorgeous looking and each girl could command the stage. Perfection.
My first crushes. I was in love when I first saw this video as a teenager. Also, this became the theme of these anti-racism ads on MTV. People would talk about discrimination, then at the end it would say “Free your mind.”
The Range and versatility (GIVING HIM SOMETHING HE Can Feel 60s vibe) to this were just part of their reflection as one of the best music groups of the 90s. Hall of Famers no doubt.
I always thought En Vogue had a more socialy conscious approach to their music than Destiny's Child (and those ladies were fantastic, too}..BTW, I've notice you two really like Annie Lennox and if you haven't already heard her duet with the queen of soul Aretha Franklin it''s well worth a listen.. It's called Sisters Are Doing It For Themselves and has a great video, as you can imagine.
I rememberred seeing a picture of En Vogue in their prime with a young Destiny Child when the original 4 DC girls were still pre teens. I think they met them during a song contest while touring & at the time, they were looking up to being the next En Vogue You should look at more videos of En Vogue like "Giving him something he can feel" , "Hold one to your love" or "Runnaway Love". They were one if not the best vocalist female group of all time.

Next one must be "Giving Him Something He Can Feel". They started around 1989; there were several hot females' groups; a couple you've already reacted to: SWV, Brownstone, Xscape to name a few.
And TLC!
I second the suggestion of Giving Him Something He Can Feel!
I third the vote for "Giving Him Something He Can Feel"!!
En Vogue lit up the 90's! So glad y'all enjoyed them as much as we all day back in the day. :)
I love en vogue! Those were good times!
This song blew everyone away from the get-go. EnVogue was badass. Guys used to just gape at the video screen in clubs and bars when this played. Another incredible song with amazing meaning is Colors by the Black Pumas. Different style, but one of my favorite songs.
you have to listen to HOLD ON.....damn good song from 1990
En Vogue are one of my favourites, their voices and harmonies are imo second to none amazing review as always. Love watching your reactions it’s like watching a vid with friends ❤
Such an epic song when it came out. Still holds up! These ladies always bring it! P.S. they are Cindy, Dawn, Terry & Maxine (singing in that order on this track)
Talented, Buetifull and ROCKIN!! woman's group. Always loved these ladies.
best one is: En Vogue - Giving Him Something He Can Feel
They are by far, the best group of girl singers in my lifetime. They could do no wrong. I usually listen to punk/ new wave. But I was like" Oooo "Free Your Mind" when I saw that you'd covered this. I don't think I knew anyone that didn't dig these ladies.
This is their best song in my opinion. I loved this song when it came out.
Same. It's got a great message in the song. GOD Bless!
Lovin some headbanging En Vogue 🤘🏽❤️🔥🤘🏽❤️🔥
Magnificent! One of the best songs EVER!!
En Vogue should have been so much bigger…they are such a treasure
Powerhouse Group Supreme for sure, definitely a 90s Anthem here!!!!
"Whatta Man" first.
@@Robsan40It is a great track, I've always thought that this band was excellent.
Comin back to this reaction again as one of my favourites. Can't wait for you to do more of them - Whatta Man and Don't Let Go are my favourites.
My favorite En Vogue song. I blast this in the car when driving.
I remember in one interview En Vogue said they didn't know anything about rock music. But boy, they really rocked this one.
Btw, I believe this song was inspired in the wake of the LA riots following the police brutal attack on Rodney King back in the early 90s.
You should definitely check out Salt n Pepa
At least the song "Whatta Man" by En Vogue AND Salt n Pepa.
En Vogue were one of the most underrated acts of all time. I say this unironically.. I think a case could be made they were the greatest girl group of them all. Not in number of hits or fame but just sheer energy and talent.
Y’all gotta listen to Don’t Let Go next.. En Vogue was one of the baddest groups in the 90’s, along with TLC..
The harmonies 🔥
The lyrics
The grit
The music
The power
The beauty
This was En Vogue in '92 during the grunge rock revolution, bringing their own version of grunge-infused R&B to the scene. Classic!
Song from the 90's that is even more appropriate in 2024.
First of all, that first line in the song... I wrote a song about it, wanna hear it, here it go. That comes from the television show (In living color).
Second, the phrase (Free your mind and your ass will follow) comes from a George Clinton and Funkadelic song.
4 killer voices rolled into 1 awesome group.
TLC is another girl group from this era, and at the same level as En Vogue both talent wise and level of success. Check out "Waterfalls" (The song spent seven weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1995)
"Hold On" and "Giving Him Something He Can Feel" showcase the softer side of En Vogue. They're slow songs and they sing those songs just beautifully!
hold on starts off slow but then it goes into a groovy kind of song
Music is the only thing that will heal this nation. You can't hate someone that vibes to your favorite track as hard as you do. We're all just folk.
"HOLD ON"
"WHATTA MIGHTY GOOD GOOD MAN"
"DON'T LET GO"
"GIVING HIM SOMETHING HE CAN FEEL"
love en vogue's music!!!
thanks a lot
JORDAN&AMBER
(jay) ❤❤❤❤❤
“Giving Him Something He Can Feel” must be your next En Vogue song… they give honor to the female R&B groups before them, like Diana Ross and the Supremes. And whew! So sexy, strong harmonies! ❤️
They are the BEST, PERIOD.
I am so glad you found these guys. They are such great empowered women. Their music and harmonies are some of the best in history and they are a direct link to Destinys child and also another great band TLC next song you should do you can pick if you want to go a little slower “Don’t let go “ and super upbeat. You gotta go with
“what a man “with salt n peppa
En Vogue Cindy, Dawn, Terry and Maxine are my favourite girl group of all time. Nobody can touch them vocally. Each girl a lead singer, eash girl drop dead gorgeous looking and each girl could command the stage. Perfection.
Further proof the 90s were the best
My first crushes. I was in love when I first saw this video as a teenager. Also, this became the theme of these anti-racism ads on MTV. People would talk about discrimination, then at the end it would say “Free your mind.”
En Vogue had it all.
I think they met them during a song contest while touring & at the time, they were looking up to being the next En Vogue
You should look at more videos of En Vogue like "Giving him something he can feel" , "Hold one to your love" or "Runnaway Love". They were one if not the best vocalist female group of all time.
I love this song in the movie "The Cowboy Way" Woody Harrelson is hilarious .
Aw, HELL YEAH!! Great movie!!
Every time I hear this song I think of Woody Haralson and laugh! Great movie The Cowboy Way!
So refreshing. This was the path we were on. Color blind… where did it change?
Used to pound the Jensens in the Datsun. Timeless JAM.
The harmonies!!! And they are just as amazing live now!
