Just imagine waiting 6 yrs for this album and "the grudge" and "eon blue/the patient are the first 2 songs you hear to start the album off. 😵💫
TOOL is one of those groups whose music, if you're new and wanting to check them out, has to begin with something familiar...like The Pot or Sober. Once you train your mind to accept this higher level of music creation and execution, the true appreciation comes through in every song they have. As you said, "You cannot go wrong with TOOL", and it's absolutely true. Been listening and appreciating their music since 1993 and it never, ever, gets old.
The change starting at 8:50 gives me the chills every time. One of my favorite parts of any tool song

Just seen Tool for my 3rd time a few days ago, they are mesmerizing!! The Grudge, 46&2, Fear Inoculum, The Patient, The Pot, Pushit, Pneuma, Jambi, Invincible and Stinkfist was the set. I had never seen 46&2, Jambi and Stinkfist live so it was extra special! You HAVE to see them live my man

The first thing that grabbed me with this song was that chuggy breakdown about 2/3 of the way through. Then the more i listened to it waiting for that breakdown the more i began to appreciate and love the rest of the song and the way its put together with all its subtle tones and intricate details. One of my favorites.
This could possibly be my favorite Tool song of all time. Its between this and H.

The way the guitar cascades during the "reminding myself of this" section is nuts. Adam is a master of textural guitar work... Reminds me a lot of Jimi Hendrix weirdly enough

Best part about this song is that you get to hear every aspect of TOOL

I would listen to this song on my way home from work from Hollywood to Palos Verdes every day… and saved my life once when I gave into patience just as a semi truck smashed through the lane on the 405 that I almost moved into. Everyone in the car hit and the car in front of them died. I would have been car number 1. “Be Patient” was the lyric being played in my ear seconds before this crash.

Nobody really under-rates Tool songs, but if they have one in their discography that is not appreciated enough, it's The Patient.
The second half of the is song is some of the most perfect music ever written.

Quite possibly my fave drop by Tool. That first one. You hear it coming. they tell you it's coming. And you just have to wait. Powerless to stop it. Sort of like when Larry Bird would tell defenders, "Inbounds pass coming to me. I'm going to pivot, fake right, then drain a three.
and it's another home run for this album! another band who gave us many home runs is RUSH! another very deep rabbit hole to fall into! keep having fun!

We could feel you feeling the song brother, loud and clear. That final movement that leads in with, "I certainly would have walked away-" then crescendoes with instruments pushing hard but that all coalesce around a beautiful harmony and vocals, "-by now, and I still may. And I still may. And I still may. And I..." That whole passage is one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard. Twenty-two years since Lateralus was released and it still hasn't lost its power or grandeur.

Pure succulence! Definitely a very well thought out track, the picking of the guitars is like a ticking clock. The Patient could be MJK’s Mom, or MJK being patient, or being patient in general. Tool has an incredible way of immersing you into the lyrics and music. Sev, another banger is Ticks & Leaches on this album that you still have to check out.
