Wow! This video helped me so much, for someone who knows nothing about cleaning up my pc I took his advice and turned off FileVault, and believe me it made my pc work faster for real! I have 900 G, whatever that means lol, but I know its more space than what I had before, and it did take time. I let it run while I slept. Thank you, David.
David! Nicholas here. Wow! What a huge difference. My computer is running way faster this morning - so far no beach ball and pages open much more quickly. Thank you so much.
I wanted to let you know that the tips I learned from this and a few other videos you produced really helped me fix my wife and my 2011 MacBook Pros and later a friends same model. It’s been about a year and all three work like new. The Mac files have been cleaned, the back ups worked well and upgrading from 4 GB RAM and upgrading the HD to 1 TB SSD have made each machine run like a brand new unit. I cannot thank you enough for the help you provided me. You have a great way of teaching. THANK YOU very much.
I have always been a great believer of judging knowledgeable people by simply hearing them and if they are using plain english words to explain what you consider a complex subject, that only means that, that person is already beyond the subject. In this case I got to the conclusion that David Cox (as I write this comment), should be dealing with tesseracs and/or similar stuff, because on this video (and all other I have seen) he is just demonstrating an absolute dominance while simply "flying" humbly thru the subjects with professionalism and and absolute interest for other to learn.... this is absolutely fantastic, an eye opener, an example and a complete honor.
Hello. 2014 mac mini 1.5TB fusion drive. GB available Before: 757.15 GB available After: 795.44 Total GB reclaimed 38.29 Nice! (But I can't tell any difference in performance...) Thanks for the vid!
I can not thank you enough! I will no longer be cursing at my computer every time it defaults to a weird search engine that I don't want! SO appreciate the tutorial. You are a life saver!
Wow - was ready to junk my beloved Mac because it was so slow I couldn't stand it but didn't know what was safe to delete. Tried your tricks and then bought CleanMyMac and freed up over 150g. Flying along now! Thanks. Love your tutorials.
I followed your video (several times as am a Mac User not Mac whizz) and although it took me a long time, I saved 198.97 GB space, 10.44GB from using CleanMyMacX! I learned so much doing this as I’d been deleting what I could see and wondering why my machine still wasn’t working! I had no idea about what you can’t see and it was actually very scary! 😱 Thank you once again for another brilliantly informative and very easy to follow lesson! 🙏🤗 Ohh and so far so good, no documents or photos lost! You are the best! you explain the computer to old folks like me in language I understand, that means so much. Getting a computer person to spend more than 15 minutes with you mean learning nothing...thank you please keep up your you tubes...
Oh my goodness I started with 32 gigs of free space and two hours later and no cost I was actually at 200 gigs of free space David I love you thank you for the video and once I save a couple dollars I’m going to actually purchase the clean my Mac three because the last product I purchased on your recommendation one password I love and use almost daily thank you keep up the great videos and I will continue to spread the word
I switched the encryption off on my iMac (fusion drive version). It took almost 2 days to complete the process. Did not free up much space. The performance improvement is really noticeable. BlackMagic Disk speed test confirms this. Thanks @David
Just a warning about Fusion drives. If you can get rid of it and go SSD. If you have a Fusion drive failure and your backup's are not 100% your going to be in a world of pain. What I found creepy was when a fusion drive fails there is little or no warning. I had the spinning disk fail on mine and it was a major failure. Sure SSD's have flaws and dangers but the idea of a Fusion drive is more trouble than it's worth.
I didn’t have a lot of programs, or old photos cluttering my drive but still managed to get back about 12 gigs. I am so glad I watched your video and bought the software because I could not get rid of this adware on my chrome browser. Thank you very much !
New Subscriber here!! I did not have enough space to even open my MAIL. I had previously removed photos to flash drive along with deletion of unused apps, and that seemed to only give me a few weeks of "functionality" before I ran out of space again. This morning, I watched your video, loaded CleanmyMacX and went from 3.43 GB free to 68.77 GB out of 121.12 GB. It cleaned up over half my disk!! I am thrilled to say the least. Thank you so much!! Ready to watch more of your vids next!!!
It worked for me ,Thanks David i saved around 15 GB as its just a new 2 years old mac and been hardly used. Ive become more confident after watching your videos and now spent more time on my iMac, I have also greatly improve my iMac speed as i would constantly get the spinning beach ball although I have about 900 GB free space on my 1 TB hard drive so I used the first aid tab on my drive and its so beautifully and fast. I do get a spinning beach ball from time to time but not like how it used to be. the first aid itself dint find any errors but looks like its done nothing good. Ive only deleted my old iPod files in iTunes and that all. Thank you so much David , I love watching your videos and have become more interested in using my iMac .
Oh my goodness! You’re the best in explaining simple steps to clean up my iMac! No wonder you have kazillion followers😀 Thank you for helping this old girl clean up my lethargic computer!
Thank you David, tremendous, got back 64Gb. Must ask, why the caution on the photos part of the tool. Please elaborate on the risk or at least why you cautioned us to not use it
Something that worked for me with a difficult to delete file in the trash: do a restart. As soon as your desktop opens, hit empty trash. If you’re quick enough you can delete the file before it starts running on its own. Thank you for all the suggestions. Going to do some cleanup tomorrow 👍🏼
So far my Macbook Pro has recovered 243 GB by me deleting old IOS files and decrypting the file vault, and the decryption is still running. Wow! This is freeing my 500 GB hard drive to perform optimally. Thanks, Sylvia!
Mac Clean Done: 12GB Recovered. Still waiting for the night to decrypt my drive and gaining some performance. You need to make a guide for PC cleaning as well.
I hardly give comments on the quality of a website. As for David Cox's website and the quality of his tutorials, I would like to say that: it is simply the best! Thank you and God bless you with more knowledge.
Thank you!! Finally after 2 days with Mac tech support and scouring the internet, I have some free space. Over half of my disk space was system storage and now it is finally at a more realistic number. So far I've been able to free up nearly 40GB!
Thanks for another great video David. I always enjoy your videos. I purchased CleanMyMac and followed your other instructions. I recovered more than 700gb of storage! Thanks again!
David as usual a fantastic video and this is insane, I got back 191 GB!!!!!!!!!! just from deleting old IOS backups, you have saved me from having to buy a new larger SSD MBP. My MBP is still working on deleting the files now and has been for the last 30 min. LOL! You are the Man! Thank you so much.
Not on my Mac either. However, my Mac is an ancient desktop (but I love it for many reasons). I suspect that the "Manage" area is a feature of more recent devices.
Hi, I know that long time old and continuous usage can slow a mac down and lot of other factors can contribute to degrading mac performance. We can also do something manually like delete large unused files, old app that no longer used, and duplicate data on hard drive. Upgrade mac hardware and firmware etc. We have alternative option too like Stellar Speedup Mac. I have used and found that this tools remove the trash, leftovers and manage the extensions from the mac. Complete uninstall all the unused application simple drag and drop option.
Freed up 57 Gig! I also took the extra steps to go a little deeper and get rid of some pesky installer files and some other software that was running in the background. Thanks for the great videos!
I got 2 Tb, as a photographer and videographer i thought i have deleted all my old files, but i was wrong. i manage to get 2tb back and my mac is running smooth. thanks, David. Also I have a question, what would be youre recommendations on how to increase download time, my internet is 100/100 but download time is 1.8mb/sec, thanks

David thanks much for your "How to Clean My Mac" tutorial. I started out with 221GB available on my Mac Pro. Ended up with 435GB available. This is Huge. Most of the large deletions were .mov .dv and a few .PSD formatted items. My videos were a hog. I don’t have the “manage...” button on my storage tab 😬 but I can see that the majority of my storage is movies and “other” My MacBook Pro is 8 years old now and slow as hell, but I can’t afford a new one. I think there might be some malware on it. 😩
The average MacBook user goes to buy a new MacBook every 7 years, guess why... you can speed it up just restore the Mac , but before you do save your favorite things. And get rid of everything on you MacBook. Then keep it clean and use a external ssd or whatever suits you. Consider replacing your internal hdd with a faster ssd but they re smaller. So you really need to get rid of everything first and start fresh with external space. You are not alone.
@@NicGoldenEddie is there any way to get the "manage" button to show? why mac is only 3/4 years old and it doesnt have that option, most of the storage is saying "other" but i am not sure what it is

I went from 48.42 GB free to deleting 341.8 GB just from clearing old files, and the old iPhoto folder. I freed up 293.28 GB, great advice, thank you 🙏🏽 I will look into the software to free up more space.
Actually, the Storage Management system application originated in macOS Sierra back in 2016. And yes, you probably should update to macOS High Sierra. Just make sure you have a good backup ready before you take the plunge!
I have an obsolete late 2009 iMac, updated it to High Sierra and it won't recognize my external hard drive...where off course my time machine backups are located. can't even roll back the update
Shag this is probably random as hell, but I’m gonna tell ya anyway. I’m a 49 yr. old white woman , I’ve got two sons 22 and 19. They are always telling and playing me their favorite rap songs. So I started watching you and other reactors to surprise them. Yo should see their faces when I can debate certain rap songs with them. It’s hilarious 😂. But I’ve come to like it. So now your my favorite , your funny as hell, but you also can really break down a song even metal so basically what I’m trying to say is keep doing what you’re doing. It’s a lot of fun. One of your old fans!
David, you're a Prince! I only went through the first half and I already went from 1.07 GB available to 250.79 GB. Wow! Next time I have this problem, I will get the app you recommend. THANK YOU!!!

Thank you so much for this very informative and useful video. I cleaned up 280 GB from my Imac with your help. Please keep up with this wonderful work.
I got over 300 GB back, and when I get the external drive for my old iPhotos, I will clear off another 135GB. I will have half of my 1TB drive available. Thank you so much.
The moment I realized that 25 GB is used by Epic Games and Unreal Engine... Edit: It's now 2022. This was the time I had a mac. Luckily I switched to a PC because my mac was really bad. (why do i have 12 likes?)

I've not seen a single good comment and lots and lots bad. I wont be going anywhere near it and indeed it does the guys credibility no favours
@@cocteaufan the new one is actually safe to use and it only cleans cache and other useless stuff
David you have helped me 100% more than anybody ever had before I appreciate you very very much
I'm running os x el capitan... I do not see the option to click the MANAGE button inside the storage tab. Where can I find this?
Terry Del Rio it’s macos sierra and above only
neither can I!
You have to update
Ha Ha, I can't update, I don't have a enough storage :-( That's why I'm watching this RUclips.
Tammy LaForte: Same here!!! I wonder what I can do about it
I totally love your videos... I found you as I was looking for some info on using final cut pro... I am working my way through your other videos now... thanks so much for sharing your expertise! In the spirit of contributing and following along, here are my Macbook stats getting started...
Available: 113.36 GB (113,356,963,840 bytes)
Capacity: 1 TB (1,000,345,825,280 bytes)
I got 125GB back!!!!
Samuel Rivera GEEZ WHAT DID YOU HAVE ON YOUR MAC TO FREE THAT MUCH SPACE?!

I don't even have 125GB
Had already cleaned almost 100gb, this let me remove 100gb more. Thanks!
My majority of used space is “other” ... like what is other and how do I get rid of it ?
Jus Luv Music Apple Reps can’t even answer that. I’ve asked numerous times.
I went from 48.42 GB free to deleting 341.8 GB just from clearing old files, and the old iPhoto folder. I freed up 293.28 GB, great advice, thank you 🙏🏽 I will look into the software to free up more space.
You must be using High Sierra because I don't have those options in storage. Guess I should probably update sometime. :)
Actually, the Storage Management system application originated in macOS Sierra back in 2016. And yes, you probably should update to macOS High Sierra. Just make sure you have a good backup ready before you take the plunge!
I'm watching the video now and I don't see that option either. Just tried to update my Mac and it's stuck at El Capitan version 10.11.6
I don't either, I have MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2009)OS X El Captan...
I have an obsolete late 2009 iMac, updated it to High Sierra and it won't recognize my external hard drive...where off course my time machine backups are located. can't even roll back the update
Ok David... Your video helped me Clean up a bit more than 400gb just by me deleting the old backups!!!!
cleanmymac creates a user login of its own and steals data
Shag this is probably random as hell, but I’m gonna tell ya anyway. I’m a 49 yr. old white woman , I’ve got two sons 22 and 19. They are always telling and playing me their favorite rap songs. So I started watching you and other reactors to surprise them. Yo should see their faces when I can debate certain rap songs with them. It’s hilarious 😂. But I’ve come to like it. So now your my favorite , your funny as hell, but you also can really break down a song even metal so basically what I’m trying to say is keep doing what you’re doing. It’s a lot of fun. One of your old fans!
when I go to "storage" I don't have the "manage" tab...HEEEELP!!!!
I don't have this either - my mac is fro 2010 so wondering if this is a newer feature...
my imac is from 2010 with macOS Sierra and has that tab.
Old Mac OS dos not have that feature
I have a late 2009 27” iMac running Sierra and I have that tab
My Mid 2011 iMac running on OS X El Capitan 10.11.6 doesn't have 'Manager' either.
David, you're a Prince! I only went through the first half and I already went from 1.07 GB available to 250.79 GB. Wow! Next time I have this problem, I will get the app you recommend. THANK YOU!!!
I freed up 42 gigs of space on my Imac. This video is gold!
I use multiple gmail accounts in the apple mail application.
Is it safe to use CleanMyMac to clean email attachments on Mac without deleting them from online? I have about 50GB.
Thank you for the time lost in answering this question.

Thank you for this....relatively new to apple yet and just sponge absorbing everything. I dont have the financial resources to pay for classes....so I am very grateful for this...thank you so much. Have a great week from Montana!!!
When talking to Apple Support, they don’t recommend this Application.
Apple Support said that there is malware in this. They were rather adamant about it.
big big thank!!! I got the cleaner from the link, works great, couldn't be happier. I appreciate your help.
