SCOTT UHL!!!! Brother thank you very much for this video! This has helped me tremendously! After watching several random "how to" vids - yours was on point...just perfect! Bravo Scott! 👍🏾🙌🏾🔥
please could you explain me how to bounce a mono track in mono, ....because in general bouncing anything would give at the end a stereo track, ...so how to get this track in mono ? would be great if you could let me know, thanks very much in advance
The other day I had a stereo track that the client only wanted the left channel but as a double left stereo track Left channel as Left and Right stereo file.
This is a clean cut step by step explanation, amazing!!🙌🙌been beating my head on the bounce to mono part and thank you for shedding that light sir! many thanks I look forward to checking out other logic tutorials
Hi Scott. I don't have the (part of stereo output) options. It just shows as Outputs 1 or 2. if I bounce then I only get audio through one speaker. Do you know how to get the part of stereo option?
This works great! Sometimes though, my new mono track has a very small waveform? Something I’m doing is not quite right. Any ideas? Thanks…you’ve been a lifesaver.
I discovered that if you have a plugin on the channel, it won't bounce mono even if the plugin is mono (UAD Antares Autotune, Mono). Had to bounce it to stereo to process, then bounce that to mono.
You can bounce them all in place at once... at least I think so haha. Unless if that mixes them all into one file. I would have to check that actually, and I’m out of town right now.
@@ScottUhlMusic Yes it seems to be. With the track I changed to mono, if I change the output on that track to stereo output, only then the sound is centred, but I’m confused if it is still in mono if I do this? The level metre is still in mono so I assume it is..
Yup. The track will be mono, but you want to listen in “stereo” otherwise you just get one side. I know it’s a little confusing, but the track is in mono now 👍
Do you mean the audio of the midi file? It should be the same process with the gain plug-in. Put the gain plug in on... set to mono.... bounce the file in place. Or don’t bounce it and just listen to the midi file in mono.
Thank you,Scott. I have a question. That is,when the track is converted and the one side of the stereo field has dropped out,are we guaranteed a true mono track that str8 down the middle,or are we stuck with the (bass) residing one side?
hi thiks for Sharing, Merry Christmas !! I have a problem, when I bounce a song I see that my song, RIGHT headphone its low volume nd when I make bigger the audio on logic to check out, I see that the audio track, that the audio file on top its loud (bigger gain) nd the one down its low smaller, any tips ?
If I bounce to output 1 I lose the pan kaknob and its all on the Left. If I do the to Mono Input change and bounce output to stereo I get the mono track and the pan kaknob back. Awesome!
That's great, but how to with MIDI Tracks? Seems to don't be possible. Each time I have to load a plugin in a midi track, I forced to use stereo plugins.
You can load in the “gain” plug-in that is a stock plugin with Logic. And turn the switch on that says MONO. You could then bounce it in place if you wanted for an audio file, or leave it as is for a midi file that is now set to mono.
In the Main Window, go to the window menu bar and choose Edit > Convert > Audio Region to New Audio File. In the dialogue box that shows up, at the bottom, under File Conversion Settings, go to the Stereo Conversion drop down menu and choose Interleaved to Split. It will convert your file to .L and .R mono files.
The instruction are missing something, as the file is not mono... it's stereo with the audio now on only one side. Why? 'Cause when the bounced track is opened back in Logic Pro X, it's still stereo.
@@ScottUhlMusic I followed the steps exactly-multiple times. The file looks exactly as shown. It does not, however, bounce as mono. How to know? When it's immediately opened back up, it's stereo with the audio to one side. So, as I said, something is missing from the instructions. [This is generally a setting / preference the instructor has forgotten about.] The other, gain, solution is irrelevant, as the DAW that it's intended for wants a mono file. It's not.
@@ScottUhlMusic Wow, thank you for getting to me so quickly. There was something funny happening post bounce where most of the tracks were grayed out but not muted. I experimented and figured it out (I think). I might be wrong but I was able to skip the step of rerouting to a mono path and just able to bounce to mono once I changed the setting in the input section
I hate Logic Pro so much and I've used it for 30 years or so :) In this particular case I need to bounce it out twice to get the file in mono since the channel has stereo plugins. It's crazy.
Correct, you need to remove the effects from the channel if you have any. Move them to another empty channel, bounce to mono, then move the plugins back 👍
I literally just did it 10 seconds ago lol. I’m literally responding while it’s bouncing. I would check the steps again and see if it works. If it doesn’t, what version of logic do you have?
Ooooh, ironically I was bouncing another one and it did NOT work. I had the chromaverb on it. Once I disabled that plug-in it worked. So check your plugins. Very likely one of the plug-ins is causing it not to work 👍
@@ScottUhlMusic I have the latest version. I ended up changing the template with no output selected. And it bounced to mono. With Output 1+2 in Template no matter what you do it will bounce to Output 1+2. I have to plugins applied to the clip.

Hi Scott. I don't have the (part of stereo output) options. It just shows as Outputs 1 or 2. if I bounce then I only get audio through one speaker. Do you know how to get the part of stereo option?
Mine says “part of stereo output” because of my audio interface I believe. Do you set it back to the output 1+2 when you are done with bouncing?

thanks for this video dude, i dont know why theres no mono button in my gain plugin but bounce in place works!

Great n effective vid. Question tho.. do u by chance know why I get no menu when clicking the stereo out? Thx
What interface are you using?
Hi Scott. do you know if there's a way to do this in GarageBand. I've looked for other vids but not found a straightforward answer, Cheers.
I don’t believe so
Does not work. I did this, double and triple checked, yet is still makes a stereo file when bouncing in place :( from a mono file, no less!
I discovered that if you have a plugin on the channel, it won't bounce mono even if the plugin is mono (UAD Antares Autotune, Mono). Had to bounce it to stereo to process, then bounce that to mono.

Great solution! Is there a way to batch process several tracks from stereo to mono with this method?
You can bounce them all in place at once... at least I think so haha. Unless if that mixes them all into one file. I would have to check that actually, and I’m out of town right now.
When I changed it to mono for my bass track, it only came out the left side of my headphones, any tips to fix this?
Thanks.
What is the output set to on that track?

hanks man! That´s what i was looking for! But: Is it possible to convert a midi file directly to a monofile?
Do you mean the audio of the midi file? It should be the same process with the gain plug-in. Put the gain plug in on... set to mono.... bounce the file in place. Or don’t bounce it and just listen to the midi file in mono.
Scott Uhl ok cool! I will try out later 😎
How did you get waveform to display both left and right channels in tracks area? Could not find anything in manual.
If you recorded something in stereo it will automatically do that. Also try zooming in.
Thank you,Scott. I have a question. That is,when the track is converted and the one side of the stereo field has dropped out,are we guaranteed a true mono track that str8 down the middle,or are we stuck with the (bass) residing one side?
If you follow these steps, everything gets dropped to center 👍
I will give it a hearty shot. Thank you so much.

If I do this, under "Mono" I only have the option to select Output 1 or 2. So it only sends the tracks to the left or right, instead of to the middle
That’s odd…. I don’t know why
Can we convert stereo to mono L and Right? With different track L and R? Tq
Interesting question... I’m sure there has to be a way to do that, but I’m not sure off hand

I honestly do not know, that might be an issue with your interface if you are only getting audio in one side. That’s my best guess
Cool but it would be nice if you also adressed converting stereo file into 2 mono files. Maybe you don't want to mix Left and Right into 1,
If you want left as one file and the right as one file……. Why wouldn’t that be a stereo file? Unless I’m missing something
@@ScottUhlMusic Maybe you want to treat left/right individually or just remove one of the sides for other reasons.
❤
Thx again keep forgetting lol
I'm just getting a blank audio file when I do this
Check to make sure there aren’t any of the wrong boxes check when you bounce. That would be my guess on why that is happening.
