    So helpful, Chris. I've seen numerous tutorials in the past that show convoluted, multi-step ways of changing stereo tracks to mono. This makes it clear and simple. Thank you!

    Very helpful! I have been looking for this possibility for a long time. I want to export a mono track for a telephone loop.
    Too bad there is no monoexport option for the whole project.
    But with this workoround I can now convert my stereo export to mono.
    You always explain things very clearly, without beating around the bush. That's great.

    Great video. But the problem is I always want to include VOLUME automation but not panning automation. File>Export all tracks as Audio files is SUCH a time saver when you have many stems to export for mixing... but if the volume automation is central to the musical arrangement and the mix engineer doesn't want stereo files for mono instruments/mics.... what then? Bounce each stem one by one... unless I'm missing something

    Thanks for another great video, Chris. I’ll be sharing this video with a lot of musicians who send me mono files in stereo. They don’t even know what I’m talking about when I try to explain. I usually just bounce them to mono myself. Now they can watch your video and just maybe they’ll get it. Thanks again

    Wonderful... I was having issues exporting Superior Drummer audio to send to someone using proTools. I wanted to be sure mono drums such as kick was in fact mono. Superior internally bounces the drums as stereo files. I can pull the audio drums into. blank project convert bounced files to mono now using the GAIN plugin and export them again safe in the knowledge they will be as I want them.. Nice video !I understand the "Pan" being a culprit, but why have "volume and pan" grouped together? Volume automation shouldn´t need a track to be bounced in stereo simply because it has some volume dips. I like Logic, but in their next update, they should think of adding a few tools like "export file as mono".

  • @TommyMitchell
    @TommyMitchell Год назад

    Beautifully explained. But I noticed these were all "exported". If you were to do a "bounce track or section" Command B, as I understand it, you can only bounce stereo.
    Why do it that way you ask? Because I am using the stereo output with the Adlimiter so that I can bounce individual tracks (time consuming) to recombine them on another computer for live performance. I want the mix to be identical to the version I'm bouncing from. I guess I could put Adlimiter on all my tracks but I only just thought of that NOW! I believe that it is a power hungry plugin and might be too much for my studio computer.

    Does anybody also have major issues with Logic Pro X and Monterey? Like crackles, playhead jumping to start of cycle, projects sometimes take ages to load, i even had clicks in the first 2 seconds of bounces. All on the new MacStudio M1 Max...

    • @nimck-y2z
      @nimck-y2z 2 года назад +1

      I've experienced one of the bugs you mentioned but some of these bugs are not exclusive to Logic running on Monterey or silicon Macs; some are simply bugs baked into Logic 10.7.4 which I have tested on different Mac operating systems. Notably, I've found a bug that cuts off the initial waveform of a region that is bounced in place from a third party plugin; this issue only occurs when bouncing MIDI notes that are at the very beginning of a MIDI region and it only happens with third party plugins and it produces a click on the newly bounced region because the waveform is no longer starting at the zero-crossing it was intended to start at. I've instructed other Logic Pro users on how to test this and sure enough, it's now been confirmed as a 'bounce region in place' bug with third party plugins which is a huge workflow issue affecting sound designers using plugins like Serum, Spire, etc. in Logic. I wanted to mention this because you said you've been experiencing, "clicks in the first 2 seconds of bounces." which will hopefully become a known bug to the Logic team. For now, a workaround is to bounce audio using the 'bounce project or section' feature instead of the 'bounce region in place' feature but we should still report it! I'd suggest testing this yourself and if you can also replicate the bug, please consider leaving feedback through this link: www.apple.com/feedback/logic-pro.html
      Best of luck!

      @@nimck-y2z hey, thanks for your reply!! I've had a pretty good audio/midi application advisor from apple on the phone the other day. After checking all my settings, he let me reset all my preferences via Logic->Preferences->Reset all preferences except key commands and since then, I haven't had any issues anymore!! The issue, which you are discribing about the first midi note, I've experienced as well, but already on my MacPro, running High Sierra and the latest Logic verion available for that OSX. Super annoying. The first notes were louder in bounces and when I bounced in place, so yes I can confirm.

  • @horacejames9402
    @horacejames9402 2 года назад +1

    Thanks Chris This is very informative.However doing two separate bounces when exporting tracks still seems a bit convoluted to me.There should be a way that Logic addresses this mono/stereo issue automatically,i.e.it should "know" what tracks should be exported as stereo or mono.Or am I missing something?That way you wouldn't have to remember that tracks 1, 10 and 25 should be bounced as stereo for instance.

    Excellent. Here's my question: I am using pitch flex to correct vocal tracks. However, when I try to export the vox tracks for a (non-logic using) mixer to mix , the pitch flex edits are NOT being reflected in the exported .aif file. How can I make it so all the little micro-tweaks I do on the vocals for pitch are actually reflected in the exported aif file?

  • @famousarmystudio
    @famousarmystudio Год назад +1

    No you still didn’t answer the question on bouncing a mix to mono. In Protools you can bounce a stereo mix summed to mono in the bounce menu. Meaning the entire mix of all tracks is bounced to a summed mono audio file. This is not the same as bouncing single tracks to mono. Doing this is necessary for projects like IVR/On-Hold files for clients, Kiosk content, Overhead store announcements and advert spots, and so many other applications for audio post professionals. What all YT Logic gurus keep pushing as bounce to mono is simply a left or right side version of the entire mix, or just exporting the mono track to mono. It’s stunning the Apple can’t figure out this very basic use on a full featured DAW. Also the lack of ability to bounce a mix and give it a unique name is ridiculous. It’s like Logic is just for hobbyists when it comes to post production.

    For me this comes down to ergonomics and workflow. CMD-B is bounce. I'm using a single mono track of voice over. Once I've edited, I want to select all the remaining regions to bounce as one mono file to the bounces folder. Not a BIP. Despite my original audio being mono and the Stereo Out track selected as mono, if I use the shortcut CMD-B (bounce) the file produced is stereo. The only way to produce a mono file is to click the Bnc button at the bottom of that Stereo fader.

Each channel has surround input and output. while what I want is each channel to be mono. Now, i'm stuck. Please, kindly explain how I can get the stem to be mono channels on Logic pro x.

    Hi Chris! Thanks for enlightening us again and again! :)
    Listen, do you know if there's a way to keep stereo files as sterefiles when exporting a project as AAF? because when I export as AAF, all stereo files get spilt up in a L and R mono file.... which is annoying for the engineer :) Tell me that Logic Pro rules once again! :) THX!

      You may have to bounce them individually through the stereo out. Click the input circles on the stereo out to convert the stereo out to a mono track and it will bounce a mono file with the automation

    Useful as always! What do you do if you have a lot of volume automation (mono) but no pan automation? I happen to use the volume automation a lot. It seems wrong to limit the mono volume content because of stereo pan info.

    • @seth_piano

      I always like to load a Gain plugin (the same Gain plugin he showed in the video) to do my volume automation! I do that so that I can always tweak the volume fader for overall balance without messing with any automation, but I can see it being applicable to your circumstance too. Hope that's helpful :)

    • @Gerry1953ish
      @Gerry1953ish Год назад

      You probably figured this out already, but to preserve volume automation, you could export rather than bounce in place. You switch the Output section of the mixer from stereo to two mono tracks (by clicking on the two intersecting circles) and hitting the 'Bnc' button. Unfortunately this produces two identical mono files (being the left and right channels) but you could then import one and delete the other. Messy but it should work.
