This is a cute movie that has all the elements of a good movie. The main characters are attractive and talented. The cast is incredible and the script is lively.
I taped this movie on VHS when DVD was not even out. Glad to see other people is enjoying this. I wish thy would make more of Barbara Cartland's books into movies. Duel of Hearts is even better and a Ghost in Monte Carlo. Also see a very young Hugh Grant in The Lady and The Highwayman.
What a good find this movie is. The movies we have available now, are either repeat of some kind of movie or a rerun. I know the 80's were cheesy, but the men were so handsome and were gentlemen. I grew up during the mid 80's and I can relate.
This is an awesome movie similar to A Ghost in Monte Carlo - it would've been fantastic if it was all in one movie instead of parts. Marcus Gilbert is hot and handsome as expected. Thanks for the watch and keep up the great service.
Special license isn't a legal permission to marry a young girl. Special license is a license to marry quickly without a delay of big ceremony and after wedding breakfast, etc. :)
I have this movie in my collection and enjoy watching it because she does look like BC's idea of fragile heart shaped face clad in white and beautiful enough to give the spoiled sophisticated Other Woman palpitations.Enjoy this movie for the Regency settings. Thanks.
I love this movie. How is she in this movie. I have watch it over and over again to pick up her age. Can someone tell me how old is she, that he has to get special license?
At that time a special licence could be obtained from a Bishop which meant one did not have to wait for the traditional posting of the Banns three weeks running and then the marriage would take place in the church. With a special license you just filled in the names, got the happy couple before a priest, justice of the peace,or a ship's captain, and 2 witnesses, said I Do and the deed was done. That's how so many runaway marriages took place.
This is so regressive! a father gambling his daughter away and another gambler winning her in a wager. Does no one realise that she is a real person and not a piece of furniture to be bought and sold!! This is a very horrifying situation for any girl and to romanticise this cruelty is just sick.
It's "Motherlove" (Diana Rigg in a much more worthy role) all over again, but at least that was some well-done british dramaturgy of a mother's smothering love for her son. They did camp this up a bit, but not near enough considering the material and the 'quality' of the dialogue.
How old was she supposed to be in this movie ... considering young ladies married, generally, no earlier than 18, but he remarked how very young she was. I've never read the book, so she must be 16-17 surely?
It is screamingly funny to have Helena Bonham Carter built up as a ravishing beauty. To be fair, the hair and makeup they chose for her did her no favors.
+Marina Shine Yes, I agree. And those eyebrows. It is bad enough they are so large, but why did not the director tell her not to move them up and down so much. It is quite distracting.
I find her riveting. Her beauty is unusual but when she is on screen, you look at no one else. Her voice is surprising deep and elegant - which belies her extreme youth. HBC was a star from the beginning.
@@reginanitta8896 it makes it realistic, the character is very young and innocent, barely 17, wearing no make up and being not that fashionable and sophisticated make sense to me. Her beauty is natural and this is what makes her stand out among all others.
Screamingly funny? Lmao, she literally has perfect facial proportions, bone structure, and features no matter your opinions on her hair and makeup. And it's pathetic af that you're one person with all these alt accounts commenting the same thing but clearly not even trying to hide it 😂 Are you a hater??? What did Helena ever do to you??
I saw strength of spirit, intelligence and independence in her. They give perfect balance to each other. They complement eachother so well. He chose and won her not because of him being the strongest, but because she was his equal. There is a hint of machismo here and there... but not much.
Yes, it is. What we do with our bodies is always our own business and no one else's. We can't make exceptions or the concept does not hold. And people are under no obligation to conform to what you find aesthetically pleasing. I think her eyebrows rock and I'm sure she thinks so, too.
Kate Hollyoake horrible is just your opinion. I'm sure lots of people think otherwise. And believe me, I do know that succeeding in the movie business is much easier if you fit a conventional western beauty standard, but that doesn't mean I think that it's right. And uptight is the kind of petty personal insult people only use when they've run out of arguments.
I find it extremely interesting: well-acted, a realistic tension-laced story, a feisty young woman up against an incredibly oppressive system that is historically accurate in England, still alive and horrific in many places in the world today!
Read the book first and fell in love with the reading. It perfectly portrays the characters
My favourite films in my school days..Beautiful love story..🥰
Such a nice and a good movie. The actors and actresses perfectly portray the character in the novel.
Love this Manny series it’s great I love the actors and actresses

Anna Massey...a legendary actress...HBC...always delivers...She was as young as she was in " Lady Jane"...!!!
Came across this film, it's surprisingly wonderful...
Same here.
i had the same experience.
Just love Marcus Gilbert (Lord Justin Vulcan) character. He is handsome.
Would you believe he was 29 to Helena being 21?
Yes he is very handsome indeed
He’s currently doing Dr. Who I believe

A Duel of Hearts came out in 90’

Way back when people were decent and made movies 🍿 for the pure sake of making them. No (intentional ) shock value or controversy
Their children will be well endowed with eyebrows.
LOL

Now all I can see is their eyebrows. LOL.
LMAO 🤣🤣🤣🤣
can't believe shes's 21 in this she looks 15, so cute
When I was 26, someone thought I was 19 ( awesome feeling)

Thanks, I was wondering what they were talking about :)
Plus, special license would get around the reading of the banns.
Actually special license was necessary for the aristocratic families in order to be able to get married.
@@opreaana1673 No, it wasn't.
It's not about a big wedding or the wedding breakfast. It's to skip the reading of the banns for several weeks.
I have this movie in my collection and enjoy watching it because she does look like BC's idea of fragile heart shaped face clad in white and beautiful enough to give the spoiled sophisticated Other Woman palpitations.Enjoy this movie for the Regency settings. Thanks.
She does look like fifteen instead she is 21 here.
Carol Harper When I was 26, someone thought I was 19! ;) lol

Hard to believe ( Helena) is in her fifties 😳 ( now)

TAPASI ROY women were property until 19th century

Yo! The mother is Ms. Hardbroom! From the movie 'The Worst Witch'. Astounded!!
lovely love Justin
je ne parle ni comprend l’anglais ; mais je connais se film et j'aimerais beaucoup l'avoir dans ma langue le français ; merci pour une réponse .
I thought that was the actress who plays Ziva David on NCIS at first until I looked at the description.
Again, a young woman placed in the weak position and saved by the most heroic man. Very young or too young to be in the romance intrigue like this.
I saw strength of spirit, intelligence and independence in her. They give perfect balance to each other. They complement eachother so well. He chose and won her not because of him being the strongest, but because she was his equal. There is a hint of machismo here and there... but not much.
Look it's Biggles there
SUPERBE
a hazard of heart
Hmm. Cannot see his appeal - he is like ice..
I don't perceive it as ice...just reserved.
He is very attractive and dashing
Ghost of Monte Carlo
terrible los subtitulos en español
why has no one told her to pluck her eyebrows :s lol
because it's her own business what she does with her body, maybe?
erm.. not when she's in a film it isn't

you dont know about about the movie business then. they look horrible. why are you so uptight?

I mean they could have chosen a prettier actress to play serena.
But that's not the point, her beauty is different
God, what entertainment? Yikes!
,
...quite boring
