The Glistening Glacier Afghan is a beautiful inset mosaic crochet pattern featuring a large diamond shape pattern. This pattern is inspired by the breathtaking terrain of the Rocky Mountains. Inset mosaic crochet is a no-tail crochet technique that is used to create intricate colourwork patterns without the hassle of tails to weave in. The PDF pattern includes a baby and throw-size blanket.

thanks! yours is easy to follow, I saw others posting the space need 2 chains thus making it confusing.
Beautiful!! Can't wait to make this...thank you for your tutorials!!
Hi! I'm watching from Sydney, Australia 😊 Thank you! I've always wanted to crochet a Mosaic blanket. Your tutorial is clear and easy to follow. I'm thinking of doing this with a gradient yarn as the contrast colour. Can't wait to start this one! [Side note: I love how there's no weaving of ends and the clean edges! 🥰]
So beautiful, I can’t wait to make this.
Thank you. You're a life saver. I wanted to make a mosaic blanket sooo bad but I hate those loose tails. This pattern does the trick.
Thank you so much.
Just beautifully created! Well Done Done 👍
Wow! Thank you for sharing this. Love your patterns. I am currently making your Cabot Trail Cardigan and loving it. Can’t wait to make this as a baby blanket!
Oh my goodness that's gorgeous 😍
Another beautiful blanket. I made your Coastal Caribbean Blanket also. It came out just perfect. Thank you for sharing your patterns with us 😊
Came across your pattern - a must try! I have to comment that I never teach anyone how to crochet because I don’t control tension (yarn running over finger) with my index finger like “normal” crocheters do it. But I see you also hold your work with your index finer and use your middle finger to control yarn tension like me!!! I guess I’m not a weirdo!! Back to pattern - I love it and will make for sure! Thanks for the great tutorial!
There is no right way to hold your hook or yarn, it’s what ever is most comfortable for you! 😊 i hold my yarn completely different than her or most others that just use their index, it’s just what’s comfortable for each person
Absolutely beautiful!!! Thanks for sharing!!! Have a good evening!!
WOW ... so so beautiful !!!
Thank you for the tutorial. I bought the kit from Mary Maxim and am so glad for the detailed instructions. I just finished the Sholach mosaic blanket kit sold on Mary Maxim and it turned out beautiful although a lot of work. I look forward to getting to this kit after Christmas. ❤
Wow! I was so confused by this pattern! Thanks for making the video, and explaining the chart so clearly. I hope I can do it as well as you did!
Bonsoir Woaw magnifique
Je vous souhaite une merveilleuse soirée
Thank you ❤❤❤❤
That is so amazing. Thank you 😊
Beautiful and amazing!

I love it! I tried to post a pic of what I just made but it won’t let me!!! First time using any pattern EVER turned out amazing! ❤❤❤
But I did the just simple one! With the black and white pattern with tails
I absolutely love your work and videos. I have made several of your items. But I wanted to tell you about Knit Companion software/app. When following a pattern for anything whether it being written or a graph this software is a complete game changer you should check it out ❤️.
Thank you for you do.
👍❤
I love this blanket but I am Horrible following patterns!! 😭😭
Thank you for sharing your beautiful video tutorials!
I was wondering what your thoughts are doing this pattern using self stripping yarn.
Thank you again!
Thanks! I think it would look awesome, I have been considering doing a mosaic blanket with self striping yarn as well :)

Thank you for your quick response.
I can’t wait to see your next amazing beautiful creations using self stripping yarn!
You are an inspiration for me and many others!
Perfect. Thank you for sharing your beautiful work
Is it possible to use this pattern to do the overlay technique instead of the insert? I've made a couple overlay afghans and find this easier. I just can't seem to get the hang of insert.
yes you can
I would love to do this but how do I adjust for being left handed? Thank you😊
This is my first inset mosaic I've tried....it's a beautiful pattern...but am really suffering........I don't think I like th inset method....I love all your overlay patterns.....I like watching them again and again......but inset is giving me a headache even though you have taught impeccably.....I'd rather do overlay and deal with the ends with an envelope border.......thank you for ur tutorials...they are so well presented ...I watch tuts of projects that I'll never make only coz I love your channel and your voice! Cheers.
Hi, I am not sure I am understanding the instructions for the baby blanket. Can you give a little more detail with regards to the rep rows as I am not understanding how they should be worked with the colour patters. At the moment I am on row 19.
Paris (France) - 24 may, 2023
One question : What is the difference between "insert" and "overlay" mosaic crochet ?
Insert mosaic seems more complicated but I guess it must have some advantages. What are they ?
Can any one explain me ? I have been wondering for months ! Many thanks to the person who will be nice enough to answer me ! ❤❤
Inset is a no tails technique. Overlay is cutting the yarn after every row. Watching this video you will learn inset. My Surfside mosaic pillow will teach you overlay❤️ (overlay is much easier to learn first) ruclips.net/video/d2ZBCpRKdQU/видео.html
I purchased the kit and have been "trying" to crochet it. I certainly am not a beginner - and I did want to challenge myself - but this pattern is literally driving me crazy. What yarn did you use when you made the afghan shown in M Mazim's catalog? Because this one is coming out very bulky and the other side looks very messy. I would appreciate hearing from you when time allows. I plan on returning the kit (minus the two skeins I've started) and would like to crochet one with a finer (perhaps fingerling) yarn?
I used the exact same yarn, Mary Maxim Starlette yarn. The Afghan in the catalog is done in the Mary Maxim Yarn. The back should not look messy it should look like stripes. This pattern is an intermediate design and with the 18 stitch repeat it is definitely not an easy pattern if you are not familiar with mosaic crochet. The blanket should not be too bulky, mine does not seem bulky it seems like a good blanket weight. I would certainly not recommend using a fingering weight for this blanket. The blanket would come out way to fine and show too much of the other colour you are hiding with the drop downs. A DK weight should be ok if you want to go down in weight. The size will obviously come out smaller but since it is a blanket you will just adjust your chain using the multiple to the size you would like the blanket.
If you are left handed, will this pattern still work the same?
is ever line on pattern actually two rows, once from left to write and then back across , i 'm lost.
How do you get the written pattern please
It helps me if the repeat portion on the chart is outlined with slightly thicker lines.
Hi Michelle,
Hopefully will get a reply. Really appreciated ♥
I have a question on row 6, it start with SC then drop down. 3 rows below is ch. where is this drop down go into? Thanks
Thanks so much for this method. I just hate dealing with yarn ends. I watched another of your videos and worked along with you but stopped when I had a million ends…. This is genius! I also learned a much neater way to carry colours and to add a border. Will be ordering the pattern when I post this comment! I would love to see a video showing how this method can be used to modify any mosaic pattern! Have a wedding gift to make and this is the pattern for me! Thanks again! ❤️🧶
I hate the ends too! Most mosaic patterns could potentially be done this way. Except when you crochet the no tails technique, it elongates the pattern because you are doing 2 rows for every row, so keep that in mind. I don't have a specific video teaching that, but my most recent video, the Rainbow hugs mosaic blanket, goes a little more in-depth on the no-tails technique. Basically, on any pattern, you would do the first row normally, then when you work back in the same colour instead of tying off the yarn, you will sc in every sc and drop-down stitch except the stitches where you previously chained you will chain again. Here is the other video it is about 4:40 when I start talking about it. Thanks! ruclips.net/video/6X3-032FfTQ/видео.html
@@mjsoffthehook Hello again! Thanks so much! I love how mosaic blankets are a bit thicker and it’s cold here on the Prairie! Will be watching that video next! 🥰❤️🧶🇨🇦
Hi, me again! I am struggling a bit with changing the colours…grrr…. Would it possible for you to make one of those “short” videos that shows how you change the colour. Until my brain learns this, I could watch it a few times…. I bought the pattern and yarn but have started over a few times. Thanks so much for all your videos! Take care! ❤️🧶
@@louiselovescrafting6802 I already have a short showing how I carry the yarn for this blanket, but it is an older short now, and I think it is too fast. Try watching this part of the Rainbow Hugs Mosaic Blanket it shows the technique a lot better. I've time-stamped it for you at 13:50. You can also adjust the speed if it is too quick. My daughter was having the same issue. She rewatched this clip a bunch and finally had it! Hopefully, it will help you as well! ruclips.net/video/6X3-032FfTQ/видео.html
@@louiselovescrafting6802 Also, a tip when you are changing the colour, I show how I pull the tails tight. Really pull those tails super snug so you can't see the colour change. It will feel like you are disorienting the shape, but it won't and will give the cleanest edge.
the text very often is covering your fingers when you work your stitches which makes it a little harder to see
I would like to purchase the PDF, but your chart is confusing to me. I thought empty boxes represent single crochets and an X represents a down crochet dropped down. My confusion is that I don't see the chains represented on the chart.
I also thought that all single crochets were supposed to go in the back loop only to leave the front loop for the drop down double crochets. It looks like you are going through both loops. Now I am really confused.
There are two different types of mosaic crochet. You are thinking overlay, this pattern inset which is a no-tails technique. They are very different. You work 2 rows for every row on the chart. You will either ch or sc for every empty box alternating every row. For example, if the empty box is blue, you could be ch, and if the empty box is white, you will be sc in that row. On the way back, you will be sc in every space except in the ch space you will ch again. For the next row, you will alternate, the blue box will be a sc, and the white empty box will be a ch. X still represents a drop-down. You will go through 2 loops for your sc and 2 loops for your drop downs double crochets. Your drop-downs will always be in a previous ch space. It is very difficult to explain, so I recommend watching the video it will explain.
Hello, I have a question to ask I'm so confused, I'm not a beginner in crochet, inset is the first time though I took the challenge and bought this pattern but after the 3rd and 4th row when I can't find the spaces for the drop downs, am I making mistakes in the rows below ? And even at the end of the row I end up with a missing stitch. I don't have a problem reading and understanding the graph but I'm so frustrated I've been frogging everyday. I really need help cause I'm determined to finish the baby throw and then going on the Afghan in bigger size. Thanks 😊
If you cannot find the spots to drop down; are you making sure your doing the “2A/3A” the A rows correct. Chaining and sc in the correct spaces? I’m not sure how I can help without seeing what it looks like. If you have Facebook you could post a photo in my community group of what you’ve done so far with your question so we can see what could be happening. facebook.com/groups/363218121026907/
@MJ's Off The Hook Designs Thanks for your reply, I will start again and if I have problems I will post a pic on fb.☺️
Is it possible to download the chart and written pattern for this project? Thanks. Keep up the good work!😊
Yes, you have to purchase the pattern on Etsy or Ravelry for a copy, the links are in the description box.
Since the chart does not appear to be marked, I want to see if I have this correct. sts 1-15 are the beginning of a row, sts 16-33 are the repeat, sts 34-37 are the end of the row? Ooops, I just purchased the pattern from Ravelry, and now I see the repeat is marked at the bottom of the chart. Sorry 🙃
Question, I am left handed. If I want to try inset mosiac crochet do I start left to right the same as I do for overlay mosiac crochet?
Yes, this pattern ends and begins the same so no adjustments are needed. 😊
If I can use 3 colours can you guide me how much yarn I need please 🙏. Thanks so much
I only have yarn amounts figured for 4 colours. You can use how every many colours you want. You will need to add up the total contrasting colours and divide by the amount you are using so 2.
Thanks 😊 so much. I hope I'll be able to make it.
Beautiful pattern, but confusing. Do you crochet a sc and drop it whenever you see an “x”? When do you change the color? Do you carry color with you?
you don't carry the yarn, you drop the yarn color change at the end/beginning of the row.
I just bought this pattern, can I use 3 colours instead of 5 please?
Yes
Is Caribbean Coast an easier pattern to start with?
The Caribbean Coast is an easier mosaic technique to learn😊
love it but it sounds too complicated
It's beautiful but I think the chart actually made it more complicated then it really is
Tried use card send so my bank wont except sorry
So sorry
