@@suhailanaz my god that enraged me, the thing is you don't even realise how they fail to communicate there, like he's obviously riddled with anxiety and she is just so convinced he's gonna break up with her that they don't even give eachother the chance to say what they actually want to say
@@schwaben4120 Not gonna lie. At that point I felt the show is stupid. But then it dawned on me that this does happen in real life! Ive come to an understanding that communication is magnificiently important but what I learned from this show is the importance of being able to articulate words to let the communication happen!

Their conversations are so smart. Thats why they like each other.

I don't want to watch any of this. I'm just checking this out before I read the book. I don't want to spoil the pleasure of reading the book first. Then, definitely want to see this.

Her accent is spot on!! Her ma is a northern Irish woman her da I believe is a Scot apparently she spent a lot of summers over here
It was good, I did pick up some Nordie twang to her accent on some words in the first show episode and wonder if he character was not from Sligo then looked her up and saw she was British with a Nordie Mom so made sense. But after that did really notice it.

She goes straight to his core with 1 sentence! When she says 'I like you' you can feel his confusion and emotions that he's not sure what to do with or how to respond.
She is a cross between Anne Hathaway & Dakota Johnson.

They do look too old but I am not even mad because these two actors have such chemistry and play the parts so well you soon forget about it
but she was 19 when they filmed that, so i think they look ok.
But the amazing things is, for me, i can kinda see how they get older
M.L Soll idk maybe Connell but I think they did a pretty good job of making her look like a 17-18 year old high school girl then aging her up to a 19-20 year old college student just but her hair, makeup and attitude.
When I was at school(many years ago)there were boys in the 6th form who looked just as old as Paul/Connell. I never made it to the 6th form---not brainy enough!
She could pass for 18, I actually went to school with a girl who looked like her. He looks a bit older. She would have been 20/21 and he would have been 22/23 when this was filmed I believe.

When he says school is the same for everyone it really hurts cause it’s not the same for her, she has a way worse time at school than anybody else
School is equally demoralising for most of us perhaps. Taught to obey authority. Then we obey authority in real life
At least with the teachers, it is mostly her who snaps at them, which gets her into trouble. I get that the students are mean to her though.
Just when I think I'm getting fluent in English they hit me with the accents and it feels like I'm back at square one 😭

i relate to connell so much it hurts, this is probably one of my worst nightmares being so vulnerable yet somehow i crave to meet someone like marianne
This makes me so excited. It seems like they lifted the dialogue straight from the book. As it should be; it was an amazing book.

Broke my heart. Them seem to be the two most matched people I have ever seen in a fictional love story. They spend so much of their time misunderstanding each other and so when they finally realize how good they are for each other, well I just can't seem the parted, even if they may get back together. Made me cry. Fiction can often be more true than non-fiction and this story is one of those times.

She dissected him like Hannibal lecter even crossing one part of the structure to other and then asking about his relationship the same way, she had him completely figured out down to his fake persona with his so called fiends,
She broke her analysis when she felt she hurt him though

Props to the show writers like they portrayed marianne as an anti social the way she talks , it reminds me the way i was i wud suffer from social anxiety nd her dismissive family and toxic mother.I can relate to her character on so many levels...

I am in love with Paul Mescal, not only because he's extremely sexy or because of his delicious accent but his spectacular interpretive ability, his gestures, his way of transmitting emotions... is indescribable.
Paul Mescal is a phenomenal actor. This show is proof

The problem with Hollywood: she is an adorable young woman. And she's smart. Guys would be falling all over themselves for her, no matter how contrary she might be.

@@isobelosullivan6150, ok. But don't you think the Hollywood approach, the Hollywood style and sensibility pervades most of the popular English speaking film and television industry? And even if it was written and filmed in Ireland, that doesn't really undercut my point. For the most part, people in movies and on television are much better looking than average folk - and Daisy Edgar-Jones is a very attractive young woman. It takes a certain suspension of disbelief to accept that a young woman as attractive as she would be some sort of outcast.

@@jon8004 Pretty much. In reality people are way more shallow. Doesn't matter how weird you are if you look half decent.
natanbridge from my own experience in school I don’t think it’s unusual for an attractive girl to be an outcast. I’ve seen it plenty. If they’re weird or antisocial or don’t fit into certain social norms and standards people think less of them.
I didn't picture connal so buff and sporty when I read the book, I don't hate it just very different
I mean, he was the star of the soccer team so I imagined him toned, but not buff.

Highly unlikely she would use the specific term "soccer" if she was referring to Gaelic football.
A bit unrelated but i love irish accent...it sounds so bold stylish and cool when they speak...in contrast to scottish which makes me want to laugh everytime it sounds so funny nothing against scottish people

Offcourse what is normal or abnormal is just a state of mind, but most of the time what majority think becomes normal and at some point in the series it's quite evident that this two characters are far from normal but the irony is the title of the show is normal people, just lack of communication otherwise they are perfect for each other they are "normal" for each other
