If anyone has ever heard or seen Bill Hicks' work, you'll know that he had a general dislike for what Los Angeles had become. Maynard was one of Bills closest friends and also shared his views. This was the big fuck you to all the stuck up, materialistic Los Angeleans from Bill Hicks, put into song by Tool. Another dead hero, with a tribute from the best Alt Metal band of my generation. Pure genius
I'm an old school rap/hiphop guy. Back in 00 when Tools cd was coming out and the music store next door were I worked was open at midnight to sell it. A guy I worked with got it and burned it for me. I feel in love with Tool from there.
Glass House is in Los Angeles County. If you mean LA proper (downtown), then yes, it's happened there too. I was there for one of them at Staples Center in 2006. Coachella is also just outside of LA and they closed their set with Aenima (and I was there as well).
In perfect union of contrary things Maynard expresses his frustrations with la 1. The constant gangsters and hippies suburban youths would gather at the loft they would live in at the time in late 1989-1990 also Maynard was let go from a pet store that he traveled from Boston to la to work at also his dog zippy vanished from adams back yard plus shared bill’ idea of Arizona bay and how this upside down city must be cleansed from its corruptness, but I doubt the la audience are bothered by it
DC in his absolute prime here. He is seriously driving the beat, and all instruments are playing in top gear. Just hard to put into words all his abilities shown in this performance…
nothing like a killer band delivering live! these guys are tight. you don't get that very often. good shit. I'm a musician and there timing is incredible. wish we had more bands like this!!
time travel would be nice, I saw them a week later in san francisco then we were lucky enough to have them come back a week later for a second show, what a magical time, it was better than you can imagine, such raw, visceral power in a smaller venue unlike the arena shows nowadays
I saw Tool on the same Aenima tour a year later in Colorado...$20 dollar ticket, and ten times better than they are live now with all of the visual distractions or $200 per ticket.
@@bobinchainz ur buggin on that one. Saw TOOL twice since the pandemic, and two Sessanta shows. Maynard’s lost a bit of range but makes up for that in energy. Without glazing or simping, he’s still best in class. When’s the last time u saw him perform?
@@increasement you’re saying he sounds fine cause you didn’t see him in 2001 like I did . Probably the last time he sounded like the old Maynard . He hit every note and was even better than the albums . He somehow held notes longer then . It was insane to witness . Then I saw them when 10,000 days was released and heard laziness . Last time I saw him was when they debuted two songs from fear inoculum at Rockville in Jacksonville around 2019. He’s still good but not up to my standards . Those notes he’s goin for aren’t hard . There are far better singers out there that can hit higher notes and are his age . There’s no excuse
everyone in tool is fucking amazing ive never been disapointed in them. danny carey messes up in like three time aenima tour he does it in H and in this song but hes so good he recovers it like nothing happened tool is the best band ever
this would have been a kickass concert to be at. seems like in almost half of these videos danny reaches for new stick mid-song. he must break them alot or something, but he doesnt miss a beat.
This Pomona bootleg is absolutely essential live Tool testimony! Even though it was the first show of the tour the band doesnt sound unrehearsed, they perform with such zest and fervor these arrangements so tight and record-like (in a good way), its really incredible! imo Pomona bootleg is much superior to most of other bootlegs, especially more recent ones where the band often sounds tired from overplaying and MJK's voice is so much weaker than in 96. this is Tool at its best, a true testament!
@Toolminion1 haha yupp sure did. i find it uplifting to hear these great musicians mess up slightly on stage. makes me feel like its not impossible to achieve what theyve done i guess.
People picking out little error's in the performance?!?!?!Really?!?!The hardest thing to do is write a song and get it formed right by hours and hours of mind numbing changing and rewriting. They can do what they want and improvise if they like.Tons of people can play there stuff but noboady writes like them or could cuz its them and maynard is one of a kind and sick as fuck!
I think it's awesome how the crowd that tool brings in has significantly changed over the years, most of the people here are like "fuck yeah, Tool is the shit!" Now a days people are focused on their music and can actually appreciate music that doesn't stick to the same god damned melody the whole song. Oh, yeah..Tool is the shit.
This makes me sad that I missed probably the only chance I could have had to see TOOL in sacramento.. FUCK.. Are they gonna ever play again?? Someone tell me.
Has somebody already seen Logorama? Well if you appreciate this song, as sure do, you will find a LOT of interesting things in there. I think it's a good discussion topic. PEACE!
well sometimes maynard acts very weird and almost tense such as the video but other shows like you said with the lights and props they have a lot more energy. this is just when they couldn't really afford it or didn't have the technology to make it look good.
@ThePaperWin they dont actually say "LA sinks into the ground", infact if memory serves they say anything about La sinking at all. ever. Dont take things so literally.
Tool is the best thing that ever happen to music
Agreed
I agree
invention of drums and then this lol
I wouldn’t go that far 🤣
Yes❤
1:17 danny lost a stick BUT STILL GOING! LIKE A BOSS!
the dude isnt even human. greatest drummer in history.
couldn't even tell by listening.
i barely noticed when i watched the fuckin video.
i had to read THIS comment to figure that out.
Yup, same on Eulogy, song before right?

his voice was so good at this show its ridiculous i luv MJK
Kudos to the cameraman for zooming in on Adam Jones during the solo, man knows what hes doing!
I wonder if they've ever performed this song in LA. that'd be beyond brutal. 😂
Glass House is in Los Angeles County. If you mean LA proper (downtown), then yes, it's happened there too. I was there for one of them at Staples Center in 2006. Coachella is also just outside of LA and they closed their set with Aenima (and I was there as well).
Doc Roid they played it here at the staples center 10.21.19. One of the most amazing experiences
Yeah just saw them too in October at staples. Exact thought ran through my head

Ænima shaped and formed my relationship with music at an early age.
Yo they are easily one of the best live bands
DC in his absolute prime here. He is seriously driving the beat, and all instruments are playing in top gear. Just hard to put into words all his abilities shown in this performance…
Danny Carrey plays like:
If John Bonham had loved working out and calculus

Yep I Was There !
Dunn Rite how did it feel to see Maynard in the front ? I’ve only seen him in the back dammit
@@bobinchainztry & catch a Puscifer show sometime. Maynard moves around a lot more.

The aenima tour was unbelievable, best show I ever saw
one of the best live bands of all time
Man what any of would have given to have seen Tool in this era.
A true original. Tool sounds like no band ever before. And Maynard is a great lead singer. I have seen them live four times. Each time was awesome.
my all time favorite tool song \m/
everybody gangsta until Maynard starts walking in a circle
Awsome. Thanx for sharing, great Reflection on Danny's head, It seems as if he was dividing in two. So bad that we can't see Justin.
Very good !!
What a great live find. AWESOME.
young Maynard is at the height of his superpowers
Damn I wish I could go back in time and catch that show
i know this is so great, one of the few concerts you can see Danny playing the whole time
kinda fascinating watching him play with that one stick. Seems to have it fully under control :P
Hell yeah! I'm gonna be there!
awesome
best band, best album - thanks
this would have been a kickass concert to be at. seems like in almost half of these videos danny reaches for new stick mid-song. he must break them alot or something, but he doesnt miss a beat.

excelent song!!! the best, and in this video can see easily the beat of the begining :D excelent hahaha

FKN LOVE THAT SONG
so fucking agree bro...absolutely true!!!!
Hey, That is Billy Howerdel!
great camera view! allows you to see what danny is playing
the drummer looks bigger than the singer even beeing in the back
anyway, Love Tool and specially this song
He's huge in comparison. I met Maynard backstage at an apc show and was taken back by how short he is
Maynard did a flawless job here, as he usually does.
even live It's almost exactly!!!! like the album he sings same ;]
danny is mindblowing. not to say the other guys arent. but danny's fills around the 2:30 mark were just :O
@SaintsCheat not boring if your in the crowd thts where the energys at,best band ive ever seen live without a doubt.
Was that Billy Howerdell crossing the stage at the beginning (0:05)?
Baptist Bear He was their guitar tech at the time yeah
he's a good dancer
@Toolminion1 haha yupp sure did. i find it uplifting to hear these great musicians mess up slightly on stage. makes me feel like its not impossible to achieve what theyve done i guess.

Did anyone notice Billy Howerdel at 0:04 carrying a Bass out of the stage?

Neil Peart paved the way for drummers like Danny.

Holy F, how long are Jones' fingers?~!
Does Adam have his VH4 here? I’m not hearing much distortion
@ItsDamianLOL how so, he seems like a cool guy in interviews and whatnot
They ARE better than any other band.
progressive metal, alt metal, art rock, heavy metal...theyve been classified as all those genres
Love Maynard's weird dances

good recovery by danny at 1:17 :)
5:27 is another drumstick missing and he still dosent miss a beat
Danny fkn Carey. Outro is naaaaasty. 6:20
Danny Carey miss his drumsticks a lot of times in this show, but he's so good that it doesn't really
