I love TOOL so fuckin much its ridiculous!!! "the snake behind me hisses what my damage could have my blood before begs me open up my heart again and I feel this comin' over like a storm again now" Tell me that ain't poetry!
I've watched this video at least 20 times a year and I'm still convinced that someone is playing the actually song over this. These guys just play their music with no extra bullshit
i'm going on 12 years listening to this perfect live version and for the past 14 years this one song out of 1000s of songs i love, speaks to me like some sweet gravity.
It's hilarious that Danny drops his stick while playing the simplest part of the song. I'm extremely thankful to whoever recorded this. I've always been puzzled about exactly what Danny does in this song.
I like how maynard always looks so awkward when he sings and he just has creepy and I don't know just weird posture and stance but it's fucking cool just adds to Tool's awesomeness and really dark and mysterious mood the music gives off
how so ? the lyrics change on different versions of the song, some versions the lyrics are "His Eyes" some later versions the lyrics are "my eyes" and "your eyes" the song has multiple meanings. maynerd said himself back in 96 and 97 that the song is about "choices" look around on youtube for his older concerts.
face facts, they're human. they fuck up like me and you do. doesn't stop them being one of the greatest live acts of all time. plus, as maynard says, this is the first outing for the aenima material, so there are bound to be parts that have evolved since on the live versions of these songs.
ive been trying to figure it out as well but i gave up, its ingenious and not human, i dont know much about drumming, but danny carey holds 5 beats/rhythms simultaneously, its mind boggling and not human.
Seperate the body from the mind... They tell you how to 'be Tool' within the lyrics.... Just dig deeper. It's within us all.... ....it's just amazing when you have 4 people in the same mental pocket....which is what we see here..... ....and I don't mind.....I don't mind....
I don't mind. I don't mind. I DON'T MIND! Dude, If I was there in the front row at that moment, I swear I would have a fuckin' heart attack. emotion is overwhelming.
Yea he fucking didn't even miss a beat, he used the other stick he was using for the hi-hat to hit the snare just at the right time while he was picking the other stick up lol brilliant!
@Recovrd1 omg how ironic that the person i meant to give a thumbs up and accidently hits the thumbs down button is the person who brought up thumbs down in the first place lol. but yes, 5:05, fucking brilliant
can anyone pleaseeeeeee tabs danny's part from 3:25 onwards till the wooden block's part is over. I know the last beat/polyrhythm. till 4:30 i think, Please help me out if any one can figure it out. the last part is a simple yet complicated 4/4, LLRLLLRLRRRLRLRL R R L L With snare and F Tom it becomes: LLRLLLRLRRRLFLRL R S L L Please help me come with the first part on the blocks. THANK YOU!!!
I don't mean to be a bummer, but I think he adjusted the "I don't mind" part to keep his voice and the sentiment from becoming drowned in the audience's chanting. Of course there's no way to keep his fans from doing so. I'm sure he appreciates the gesture in his own way.
You totally missed the point, man. Drummers always drop sticks, that's just a fact. My point was that he made it through an extremely complex rhythmic pattern without even struggling but once he gets to the part that's straightforward, he happened to drop his stick. I find that ironic. Also, Danny is not just a great drummer; he is the greatest drummer to inhabit the earth so far. Bruford is a close second.
ugh, that high tom is tuned too off of the drone D pitch to be that prominent in the mix. Too much reverb making it too pronounced. And it's on the one each time!!! Ugh, shows you how important your board guy and techs are. Little shit like that can add up to a sub par over all sound.
Man, they fucking ruled in the mid 90s. Aenima was such a leap forward, not just for them, but for music in general
His voice was definately at it's peak from about '94-'98
I love TOOL so fuckin much its ridiculous!!!
"the snake behind me hisses what my damage could have
my blood before begs me open up my heart again
and I feel this comin' over like a storm again now" Tell me that ain't poetry!
Tool saved rock music in the '90s. Bless them.
One of the greatest songs that I have ever heard..
my favorite tool song right here
I've watched this video at least 20 times a year and I'm still convinced that someone is playing the actually song over this. These guys just play their music with no extra bullshit

My first Tool show was one month after this one. Nov. 23, 1996 in Philadelphia. So good...so good.
oh yes ... don't know how long I've been listening in cathartic bliss to this masterpiece ... and it never gets old.
Great performance. Danny is a monster, he makes playing drums look as natural as breathing.
It's hilarious that Danny drops his stick while playing the simplest part of the song. I'm extremely thankful to whoever recorded this. I've always been puzzled about exactly what Danny does in this song.
A stunningly brilliant band at this point. That sat me back in the chair in pure satisfaction.
I like how maynard always looks so awkward when he sings and he just has creepy and I don't know just weird posture and stance but it's fucking cool just adds to Tool's awesomeness and really dark and mysterious mood the music gives off
Going to see them July 1st! Can't wait. Will be my second time seeing tool live.
THIS is so fkn awesome man!.. I wish I coulds see them live back in a day... THANKS a bunch for the video!
I almost cry from the incredible art I hear in this song.
Carey has developed a HUGE independence that's what this song's drumming stands for, his left hand it's very powerful.
I got into Tool in 1999 and even then I was too young to see a show
He sings what I feel .... what a gift some people have ....
thanks dave ...
Thanks for uploading!
i dedicate the chorus to my first love...
I'm going to see them on January 17th!
goddamn i love this band.
I would have loved to go to this concert
one of their best songs..
Perhaps one of the best visual references for how to play this song on the drums.
Just when you think the audience was going to drown out Maynard he comes right back and mows the whole place down with that last "I don't mind ! ".
My husband is a true metal head..... but he says tool are God's, an keep going boys keep going!!
5:40 to the end is the fucking BOMB i love how danny goes all out, its so amazing!
nice catch on that h video
This kicks some serious ass
I wish I had known them so early, man. Although I don't know if I had been mature enough to grasp it
damn i freakin live in pomona sux that i was too young to know who tool was back then :/
i dont mind im conected toollllll fade awayyyyyy fade awayyyyy
slip awayyyy
looks like billy howerdel at the end, he was the guitar tech on this tour
that was fucking incredible
Tool at their best

@Cyc1on3 yessir first show with him i believe
@partypoison4 It actually has a dual meaning, it is about drugs and his son
@bojanks15 Indeed sir. Reminds me of "the one that got away".
@Crazycowperson i think he plays without them o.o this is like the 4th video i have seen him dropping his sticks
such a fucking good song. seriously nobody tops tool
face facts, they're human. they fuck up like me and you do. doesn't stop them being one of the greatest live acts of all time. plus, as maynard says, this is the first outing for the aenima material, so there are bound to be parts that have evolved since on the live versions of these songs.
6:30 lol Billy back in the day :)
well the tab did not copy correctly on my last post but in any case i know it. Please help me tab the first part starting at 3:25. Thx
ive been trying to figure it out as well but i gave up, its ingenious and not human, i dont know much about drumming, but danny carey holds 5 beats/rhythms simultaneously, its mind boggling and not human.

@TheEchoesofMetroid Its a concert thing man. They meant no disrespect.
I don't mind. I don't mind. I DON'T MIND! Dude, If I was there in the front row at that moment, I swear I would have a fuckin' heart attack. emotion is overwhelming.
@boueriltb that's because the bass starts this song. effected to fuck to sound like a guitar, but it's justin.
Adam is a perfectionist.. It was intentional. Plus I have heard him do that same thing at other shows.
?
At 4:42 it's the normalest thing that Danny Carey have ever played in his life... The rest of his drumming it's unbelievable...
Yea he fucking didn't even miss a beat, he used the other stick he was using for the hi-hat to hit the snare just at the right time while he was picking the other stick up lol brilliant!
@SaDvids8 It's a scorpion.
i think its great that the 1996 videos are like 50 times better than the ones from 2002-2009
Billy Howerdel at the end of the vid?
I wish that I knew who the hell gave this vid a "thumbs down"... I would track them down and slap them.
Oh! And 5:05 For the fucking win!
I dont mind .i dont mind .I DONT MIND ¡¡¡¡¡ epic moment
@hat6036 its tool.... every thing they play is automatically great even if played wrong
That's what his gyrations are all about. Whole body muscle controlled verbals.
who cares he droped his stick he recovered it like nothing happened thats how great of a drummer he is
@Recovrd1 omg how ironic that the person i meant to give a thumbs up and accidently hits the thumbs down button is the person who brought up thumbs down in the first place lol.
but yes, 5:05, fucking brilliant

Danny miss the final lol one of the first mistake I see from him...incredible song

by 5:15...that camera should be on Adam Jones. Just my opinion.
wow @ 6:30 that skinny bald guy is billy howardell.. omg
More than just Dual meaning...
I don't mind.
4:43 Danny drops a stick.

How so?
One hundred
yeah but look at that, he got it back no problems made in the song, thats a true drummer for you.
huh, i thought it was about me and my father and my daughter. i feel so silly now.
how the fuck can anbody be better then TOOL!! Best band ever besides floyd and zepplin
5:05
Holy mother of fuck...
@nolson4062 since the media has blinded humans, or so called "sheep", of what that is actually great... It's painful, we all know that..
i'm completely PUZZLED how he can scream like that. Either he is extremely highpitched, or he has a not human diaphrama.
lol wtf? The people in the bottom left at 3:19 starting flipping him off xD
What are you talking about. Rock was the best in the 90's.
@adamt213 seen them 15 x's. I'm jealous of (YOU LOT) cause ya'll get to see Radiohead with more frequency... Lol.
Yeah some of his polyrythms I am still yet to understand let alone play- try slowing the song down to get a closer listen maybe
Danny drops his stick at 4:44. But manages to grab another from his stick bag without droppin the beat
yea man like Alice in Chains and Pantera!
much better version than Huntingtons
I don't miiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiind.
so find out why this is.
Me neither.
DANNY CAREY=GOD
ugh, that high tom is tuned too off of the drone D pitch to be that prominent in the mix. Too much reverb making it too pronounced. And it's on the one each time!!! Ugh, shows you how important your board guy and techs are. Little shit like that can add up to a sub par over all sound.
@mcw2826 The world's only true Tribal-Caucasian.
who cares
It's Weird seeing danny play on such a small kit (small by his standards today).
