It's my choice and my hamster so I can do what I want... No it's another living thing you took responsibility for. You knew when you got her that that was not the appropriate size. If she's attacking you when you go to interact then that is cage aggression it's more common in dwarfs and can be caused by feeling like they have insufficient space if she's doing it when she's accidentally spooked that's different. But either way it's not just a preference of how much space to give your hamster it's a choice of negligence as there are countless studies relating enclosure size to stress levels. 450 square inches is the minimum. Justifying improper care by saying it's better than PetSmart's/petcos is the same as them saying their care is acceptable because it's at least better than the rodent mills they purchased them from which stay in business from your business at those petstores instead of you adopting or getting from an ethical breeder. I get that I'm coming off rude but this is another life were talking about and while you're doing great in other areas you are planning on continuing this tradition of since it's small it's habitat can be small because that's what fits *my* needs despite not fitting the animal *living in it* needs. You can get thousands of different types of cages that will be big enough and it doesn't have to go on a desk or table it can go on your floor so long as it stays clean around it. finally you don't have to leave the filth down there taking a handful of just the bedding and transferring it over to the new will keep your hamster from stressing over the cleaning.
I agree, it’s another living animal and the hamster/ any animal you buy should have the best life. People say “iTs mY pEt” which is true but your literally “abusing” it with not giving it the right size cage/tank. People need to learn responsibility with living creatures. It’s not a toy that you play with for a day and never use it again.
There are things that are up in the air and are up for you to decide what's best for your pet. The only thing about the 450 square inch minimum in the us that is in question is if it should be BIGGER.
This is exactly what I was thinking "my pet, my rules" come on girl... you said right from the get-go it wasn't enough and instead of wasting the money from a 10gal because she "doesn't have enough room" to whatever size this one is she could of easily bought a 40 that would of fit on her desk. Just for the aesthetic 🙄
I so agree. I do think she is trying her best in most areas, and I applaud her for it, she seems very knowledgeable too, (large wheel, safe bedding, multiple toys + hideouts, she knows to keep old bedding in the cage and knows that spot cleaning is less stressful, which I think is positively amazing) but rejecting a larger cage altogether on her own terms (because she doesn't have the space) is so neglectful. I personally have used 8 square feet in my room devoted to a large hamster cage. And it's not like everyone needs to do that, 450 square inches is 15 inches by 30 inches, it's not hard to squeeze somewhere. Saying that it's "your pet so you can do what you want with it" means that you'll have no problem if I abuse and completely neglect my dog "because she's mine" (btw this I an example, I care for my dog and would never do anything bad to her.) Like you said, this animal is a life, it's not about what you want, this is about what the animal needs. You can keep a dog in a small pen or crate all its life, feeding it and giving it toys to play with, but in the end, the animal is only surviving, not thriving.

Great hamster care :) There are only two things (you have clarified one so I will not bug about that!) is the bedding. I recommend maybe making one side a bit deeper? My hamster really enjoys that, and if you don't have like, a lid or whatever you call it, than it is fine! No worries, but try making a DIY one it's really fun.
Bin cages are super easy to create and budget friendly! I’m sure a bunch cage would fit on that dresser. The Sterilite 50 Gal stacker bin is a great size. Also the bigger the cage the more bedding you put in which then makes it smell waaayy less! The more you know🥰 And yes leavening a handful or two spread out in the new bedding will make it less stressful for her. It does stress them out because the new bedding doesn’t smell like them. You’re doing a great job!
@@itsariina4856 yup. She is just being selfish, she is not trying to give her hamster the best life she can give it. People like her shouldn’t own pets.
When you say eww wile cleaning out the cage just remember she has to live in that, ☺️. Your taking quite good care of her though! She is so cute and good job 👏
number 1 Please do not deep clean your hamster tank! Instead spot clean, like you mentioned in the beginning. When you deep clean, you remove all horchata's scent. Hamsters use their scent glands, which are on their sides, but on dwarf hamsters, it's on their bellies. They use their scent to mark there territory, they also use poop. The poop is scentless to humans, but i reccomend you take it out. When you deep clean their tank, you can cause their heart rate to go up to 150 per minute, and it takef from 50 mins to one hour for them to calm down. It can even cause heart attacks in the really young or the really fragile ones, they normally die from heart attacks. number 2 Hamsters need 6 inches of bedding, if they have any less it can lead to stress. If they have stress they may do the following: pace around the tank / run in circles scale the tank / try to climb the tank climb the bars(if you have a bar cage which is not reccomended) bite themselves ect (it all depends on the hamster) number 3 They may be small, but hamsters need atleast 450 inches floor space. You have a 20 gallon tank, which is 288 inches. This may also lead to stress number 4 DO NOT HAVE ANY INTERACTION WITH A NEW HAMSTER You have to wait, if you dont you may stress the hamster, in the first horchata video, you touched the hamster right after you got it. If you look closely, you can see the hamster is running away. In the wild, hamsters are prey animals, so it may think you are a predator. Normally, you would have to wait 3 days before interaction. Depending on the hamster. Thank you for reading this comment! I hope you learn from it! I know this is your first hamster, and you are doing farely great!
0:55 #1you don’t get to choose how your hamster feels about a small cage #2 your hamster is not bitting you because she/he is trying to tell you that it needs more space #3 miss girl if you are going to sit there and act like you don’t have any room for a bigger cage when you could go to the store get a bigger one and use some of that huge amount of space in the same spot Sorry lady but if you are not willing to make sacrifices for your pet then you do not deserve it I am so sorry if this was rude I just read it I think that you are doing a great job but you are a little small minded and I just don’t want the hamster to suffer
If you can’t provide the space for your pet, they will be miserable. ´it’s my hamster I can do what I want’ comes from a place of entitlement and not responsibility towards the pet YOU CHOSE to adopt. The floorspace is the number one most important thing to provide,
i love that your giving your hamster the best life that you can!! i’d recommend adding more bedding as hamsters love to burrow! 6 inches or more is great for them to do so, and if your worried about your hamster escaping because there’s no lid you can get wire mesh which is very cheap and just bend the sides to fit on the tank! x

Ok so you do NOT have enough bedding. I’ve owned a hamster for so long now and this hurts me so badly. Please make sure you’re hamster wheel is 8 inches, and that you have way more bedding. If you don’t have enough space I recommend building the tank upwards by adding on a clear bin with a lid cut in the middle with chicken wire and attaching it! Just so you’re hamster can stay healthy so you don’t loose her before she’s 2-3. A dust bath is also meant for chinchillas not hamsters, so please switch that out to a sand bath if you can, it’s healthier for your hamster.
You can do bathtub bonding to help her get use to you more, you can also rub toilet paper on your hands and wrists so she can have your sent and maybe she won’t be as nippy. That’s what I did with mine but not every hamster is the same 🤷♀️

Fr fr she can make a bin cage that is what I am going to do
Saying that it's "your pet so you can do what you want with it" means that you'll have no problem if I abuse and completely neglect my dog "because she's mine" (btw this I an example, I care for my dog and would never do anything bad to her.)
Like you said, this animal is a life, it's not about what you want, this is about what the animal needs.
You can keep a dog in a small pen or crate all its life, feeding it and giving it toys to play with, but in the end, the animal is only surviving, not thriving.
You go girl don’t let people take you down horchata is very lucky!

You are giving your hamster a good life and I like your enclosure. It will be bad if you listen to people and just leave ur hamster outside where it will surely die but u have a safe place for it
I just got a Roborovski hamster about an hour ago And this cage gave me and idea on how I want to decorate mine thank you!

I’m not judging at all but looking at that dresser compared to the 20 long I’m 90%sure you could fit a 40 gallon breeder tank on there
I agree there's way more room on the dresser and could afford to buy a bigger one if she sold the one she has currently
When you say eww wile cleaning out the cage just remember she has to live in that, ☺️. Your taking quite good care of her though! She is so cute and good job 👏
number 1
Please do not deep clean your hamster tank!
It can even cause heart attacks in the really young or the really fragile ones, they normally die from heart attacks.
number 2
Hamsters need 6 inches of bedding, if they have any less it can lead to stress. If they have stress they may do the following:
pace around the tank / run in circles
scale the tank / try to climb the tank
climb the bars(if you have a bar cage which is not reccomended)
bite themselves
ect (it all depends on the hamster)
number 3
They may be small, but hamsters need atleast 450 inches floor space. You have a 20 gallon tank, which is 288 inches. This may also lead to stress
number 4
DO NOT HAVE ANY INTERACTION WITH A NEW HAMSTER
You have to wait, if you dont you may stress the hamster, in the first horchata video, you touched the hamster right after you got it.
Thank you!
I love it! I would recommend putting a hard platform or a piece of cardboard or something under her wheel so it doesn't get stuck in the bedding.
I love her confidence
0:55 #1you don’t get to choose how your hamster feels about a small cage #2 your hamster is not bitting you because she/he is trying to tell you that it needs more space #3 miss girl if you are going to sit there and act like you don’t have any room for a bigger cage when you could go to the store get a bigger one and use some of that huge amount of space in the same spot
Sorry lady but if you are not willing to make sacrifices for your pet then you do not deserve it
I am so sorry if this was rude I just read it I think that you are doing a great job but you are a little small minded and I just don’t want the hamster to suffer
This is so cute and where did you get the tank and how big is it thinking about buying a hamster💗💗💗
We love youuu❤❤❤❤❤❤😢
also when you clean it put some of her old bedding so shes used to the smell and doesnt get stressed out
If you can’t provide the space for your pet, they will be miserable.
6 inches or more is great for them to do so, and if your worried about your hamster escaping because there’s no lid you can get wire mesh which is very cheap and just bend the sides to fit on the tank! x
I am going to get a hamster and I can’t wait

about the bigger cage from the video it looks big enough but can we have the floor space just to make sure! ( the bare minimum is 450 square inches of floorspace)
I know you can't get a bigger cage, but something you can do is get a cage topper. It just goes on top of your cage and it gives your hamster more room to run around. You should look into it.
You are doing a great job with her! 😁
No she’s not. If you are uneducated stop spreading lies to “make her feel better” she knows exactly what she needs to do but she’s choosing to ignore it.
@@person39 I am not uneducated. I do a lot of research and have kept rodents for years. I've rescued many rodents that were being kept with no enrichment and in tiny cages and have given them a better quality of life. So, I know my stuff when it comes to animal care. This girl is doing a good job. Is it perfect? No. But overall she is doing a good job. She isn't using one of those small pet store cages, of which many of the rodents I've rescued have been in when I've gotten them. Those cages were put right in the trash after I put them in their new enclosures. And she has a good size wheel for her hamster. She obviously cares about her hamser. Your name calling and non constructive comment were uncalled for. Maybe try being kind.
@@lynn5530 It’s amazing that you rescue animals but just because her care is better than a tiny cage with no enrichment doesn’t mean it’s proper care. She definitely loves her hamster but unfortunately love doesn’t replace proper care. I agree that I should’ve worded my comment a bit better but her refusing to upgrade her cage is bothersome.
The reason she likes to chew at those little bars when you put her in that little blue cage is because it’s too tiny and she wants out which is totally fine because it is just to keep her in when you clean it but that is why if you were wondering
I love it you’re doing a good job
y’all leave her alone she’s doing her best at keeping her hamster happy and heathy. the 20 gallon one is perfectly fine
No because even if she’s trying her best it doesn’t change the fact it’s not the correct size and she does have space for a 40 gallon on her dresser. 20 gallons is too small. People are just trying to help her hamster have a good life but she is choosing to not listen. Surviving is not the same as thriving.
How often do you recommend cleaning it?
Your hamster looks so happy and I know that it feels bad getting negative comments and I really love that you care for your hamsters so much. Your hamster is so cute❤! hi i love your videos soooo much but heres a top tip mabe dont put the fairy lights under beacause what if she needs to burrow
(i still love your hamster
Hi! adding a forage mix in with the bedding is a really easy way of adding more enrichment for her so she has different smells and different things to forage around for
Also defiantly add more bedding since you tank has the height for it, they need a minimum of 6 inches of depth :)
She is so cute!!!🤍🤍
bruh your videos are so aesthetic. And her cage. 👑✨🌟

Girly you have the perfect size tank for a hamster I have that one too. Don’t care what they say.
You SHOULD care what they say. There are researches for proper animal care and it's those studies that have the right facts, not your opinions.
Hi I would recommend having 6 to 10 inches of bedding you don’t quite have enough your wheel it’s a great size but your tank is not really full you can fit a lot more things in it the tank. size is good but you need to add a lot more toys and things for your hammy to do
I love watching your hamster videos! She is so cute! 🥰 I think you are doing a great job taking care of her.
You have been so good at listening to peoples advice and dealing with mean comments! Its great that you got her a better, bigger wheel, she was going to grow out of the petsmart one anyway. Only pointers I have for you really are: more bedding and change then Sunburst food to a better one, i know you already switched from oxbow but that one is very poor quality.... watch Munchie's place video on hamster&germil food. she compares different brands and their ingredients
Higgins Sunburst and Mazuri would be a great combo especially with mealworms. Sunburst isn't a bad brand and shouldn't be classified as one
Simple and nice set up. And you are gorgeous 😊
Nice? Not enough bedding, no enrichmemt and small cage

it’s not “my choice because it’s my hamster” it depresses hamsters to be in small spaces, i understand if you don’t have the space but you also don’t have enough bedding for her

My hammy does the same thing it will make your furry baby very happy too. hope your hammy lives long.
It’s a niteangel wheel so i think it’s large enought
You can do bathtub bonding to help her get use to you more, you can also rub toilet paper on your hands and wrists so she can have your sent and maybe she won’t be as nippy. That’s what I did with mine but not every hamster is the same 🤷♀️
Its a suitable cage guys leave her alone!!! She’s trying her best to provide the hamster with everything it needs!! It looks like a perfect tank to me!

Your hamster is a robo, which on the list of hamsters is one of the newest to be introduced to pet stores bc their breed hasn't been fully domesticated. Thats why they are more hyperactive and typically will bite more bc they haven't been fully tamed down yet like Syrians have. They can still be friendly, but they have more wild instincts :)

@Kaley Hanson Why does it matter if the bin cage is Aesthetic or not? It doesn’t matter. You should try and give your hamster the best life possible. and she isn’t willing to do that , because she is selfish. If she cannot afford a 40 gallon tank spthen she shouldn’t even get a hamster.
